I am disgusted at the last experience at University Dental Associates! I have been a faithful patient of their office for 8 years! I get my cleanings every 6 months and have done EVERY single cavity they have suggested! This week I went after I JUST had an appointment in December(4 months ago) for a cleaning and was told I had three URGENT cavities that would lead to a root canal(enough to scare anyone to action!). In addition, I had a minor chipped tooth which they told me could only be filled with a $ 175 cap– lies! When I went for my second opinion I was told they would NEVER fill the urgent cavities and also free of charge lightly filled away my small chip! I will NEVER return to University Dental Associates! On the upside– the dental hygienists both Nancy and Ann are wonderful and so sweet and Kevin who works the front desk is always helpful and considerate.

I have been a patient in this office for five years. The hygiene and office staff are lovely and responsive. The dentists have terrible turnover. In approximately 11 visits, I have seen 8 different dentists. That would be ok if the quality of care was consistent. I am not confident in their service, advice, nor care and would not recommend this practice. Today, I have decided to leave and leave a review wherever I can. I’m 43 years old with very good oral hygiene. I have had six month check ups my entire life. At age 39, I had 5 fillings in my mouth — all from childhood. On my first visit to this office after moving to Charlotte in 2010, I was told I had 5 more cavities. I had Dentist W fill them. In 2013, Dentist X said I had 7 more cavities. I had them filled. In spring of 2014, my Xrays were deemed cavity free by Dentist Y. Today, six months later, Dentist Z looked at those *same Xrays* and said they indicated that I needed *8* more fillings. He told me that Dentist X had done 2 of them incorrectly and that Dentist Y must not know how to read the Xrays correctly. Wow. So, in 39 years, I have had 5 fillings. In 5 years at UDA, I have been prescribed 20 fillings? This sounds like malpractice. I’m done.

Hadn’t been to the dentist in longer than I’d like to admit(but in fairness, I’m obsessive about dental health, flossing, etc). So on my visit, all I’m getting is an evaluation. They poke my gums, xrays, and then try to upsell me on a bite guard for teeth grinders. I left the office with another appointment 2 weeks later for a cleaning? Give me a break! Why couldn’t they just clean my teeth the first time I went? Nobody likes going to the dentist, and this place figures out ways to make you go even more than you want too!

Had your 6 month check up lately? My mom owes me $ 5…no cavities! Awesome. This office location is in SouthPark(they have others in Charlotte). They take most, if not all, insurance. Office staff are friendly and efficient. By the time you check in to the time you leave(as long as there aren’t any issues) is under an hour. If you need to have your records transferred to another office(e.g., oral surgeon) they are happy to do so and they follow up with them as well. Also, the dental hygienists are«gentle» on your gums. They also give you their version of sunglasses so that way you can protect your eyes(from the occasional water spray), which I appreciate since I don’t normally wear waterproof mascara. I don’t mind going to the dentist and in fact, I love getting the«party favor» bag filled with a new toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss at the end of each visit.
