Family restaurant, clean eating area, clean bathrooms. Country ham and eggs were excellent. Wait staff were great. Music at just the right volume. Comfortable seating. Soooo much better than Cracker Barrel.

Rather than write an extreme review, I’m taking the middle ground here. This is a simple, American traditional joint along the lines of Twig N Leaf in the Highlands area of Louisville, so stick to the basics. I ordered a simple«Ron Swanson» breakfast and was not disappointed. Service was adequate, friendly, but not overly so.

The Copper Kettle is a great local restaurant with reasonable prices and good food. The service is great, and they have a great breakfast.

If the term«home cooking» conjures up images of canned green beans and instant mashed potatoes for you, then the Copper Kettle is just your place. However, if you think that«home cooking» involves actual cooking, beyond what might happen in a high school cafeteria, then keep on driving. We stumbled upon the Copper Kettle en route to Charlestown State Park. It was late afternoon and both my boyfriend and I were starving. When we walked in the door we were told in an unfriendly manner to seat ourselves and so we did. Other patrons stared at us as though we were foreigners who were invading their restaurant. It was creepy and uncomfortable but we persisted in ordering our late lunch. I ordered a grilled lemon pepper chicken sandwich, side salad, and side of green beans. My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken dinner with sides of green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, onion rings, and a biscuit. The waitress was friendly and the food arrived promptly. However, once the food arrived we immediately noticed that my sandwich looked sad. It was just a piece of chicken on a hamburger bun with no lettuce, tomato, or even mayo. It was dry and bland. I did my best to choke it down taking frequent drinks of diet coke between dry bites. My green beans were also pitiful. They were clearly canned green beans that had been cooked by someone who was very heavy handed with the salt shaker. My boyfriend’s fried chicken was equally pitiful. Rather than being golden it was dark brown and overcooked. It was also sitting in a puddle of fry oil on his plate. He had to pull off and dispose of the skin to find edible portions of chicken underneath. I tasted his mashed potatoes in hopes of finding something good in the meal but the taste of instant potato mix could not be hidden beneath the brown gravy. When we went to pay we had to stand in line for quite some time while the cashier berated a cook for daring to ask how to package a take out item. Overall the Copper Kettle was a disappointing experience and one that I would not recommend.

Excited to find a sit down restaurant in Charlestown, until we ate there.

Great Food! I had the Country Fried Steak lunch plate(there is breakfast plate too) with corn, green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. ALL of it tasted like home cookin as advertised on the front windows! Others in our party had hamburgers and cheeseburgers with those old fashioned french fries. It all tasted good to them too and all agreed we would be coming back regularly. Also great service with multiple servers attending to even the smallest of needs. I highly recommend them for a home cooked meal. Oh yes, in addtion to their regular menu fare of home cooking was a large section on fish & shrimp. Several kinds of fish and lots of selections. I can’t wait to try some.
