Before we moved to Beckley, WV, we lived in Charleston, WV. In Charleston, WV, there is the sweetest little shop known as Spring Hill Bakery. It’s in a small little storefront, in a small little neighborhood. It is a small store, with very little room to move, but it always seems even smaller because every time we’ve been there, it is packed. Their signature item is the«Hot-Dog». This delicious little hot-dog-bun-shaped doughnut with their special pastry cream piped on top, is quite possibly one of the best pastries in the area. But don’t stop at the Hot-Dog. If you want a hot dog, you’ll have to get there EARLY, because they really do sell out before noon. But if they are all gone, don’t despair… Get anything, get everything. It doesn’t matter what flavors you love most, everything they make is delicious. And best of all? The staff is as sweet as the items in the case. Go on, go. Before the gym, before work. Go.

Ive never been to Charleston a local friend said it was a must try. Spring Hill did not disappoint. Tried their éclair, marble cake, and doughnuts. All were delightful and fresh. The staff stayed true to the southern hospitality I expected and prices are fair.

There is nothing that I can say about this place that hasn’t already been said. If you visit Charleston, you have to stop here. Always friendly, always fast and ALWAYSDELICIOUS. Everything they make here is awesome. Lady fingers, cakes, all things sweet. Everyone talks about the ‘hot dog’ but I am in love with the lady fingers and petifores. I have a real sugar problem and these folks are enablers. Get here early and get here often. ;)

Quaint place, very busy but very good service. The pecan rolls were to die for, and the marble cake we got for my daughter’s birthday was very good. We got the«hot dogs», they were pretty good, I think they were made with buttercream, and quite possibly an actual hot dog bun. Will visit again!

I’ve been coming here more often lately and realize they fully deserve a fifth star. The selection has increased and I haven’t seen them run out of the«hot dog» eclairs in a long time. And while the line before a holiday or in a Saturday is still a beast, it moves even faster than it used to. The only hold up you’ll ever experience there is from indecisive customers. Well worth your time and $$.

A local standout… they make their pastries fresh so come by early, especially if you want one of their specialities. As most folks have mentioned, you should try a «hot dog»…trust us, they are a real treat… it took me a while to get one and now I leave with a box any time I’m here. Pretty much everything is good. Their German Chocolate cake is my personal favorite and I think the best you can get anywhere. If you deserve a treat and enjoy pastries, cake, donuts, etc. then stop by Spring Hill and let the smiles begin…

Spring Hill Pastry is without a doubt the best bakery known. I am 70 and have been going there since I was a kid. For many years I have not lived in WV but make sure I can go when I am back. Their vacation for two weeks over the 4th of July often makes it difficult. I have lived just outside NYC, in NC, VT, DE and WA state and only Olympia, WA had a bakery that comes close to how good this place is. We all have had our favorites. I have always like their white cookies. They fancied up the name and now they call them wedding cookies. My daughter loved the star cookies and I always make sure I bring back several dozen for her. We all think their white wedding cake is the best made. There cream horns, chocolate eclairs, cream puffs, hot dogs and on and on are just the best. If people want to complain because an exhausted staff closes before they get there to bad. None of us are that special. They close when they close. I am sure people call every single day asking them to stay open just a little bit for them. Be considerate of them and don’t ask this staff that has been on their feet for hours to stay late.

You might not notice this place, because its small, off the main road, and not at all flashy, but its definitely not to be missed. The small front end is always crammed with people(no seating, this is pickup only). The offerings are old-fashioned, but by no means does that make them inferior. I love the thumprint cookies and carrot cake. And to top it off, the owners are great people who do a lot to support the community.

Stopped to buy a cake for a friend for her birthday. The guy helping me was an absolute sweetheart and made the best suggestions. I came out with two boxes of pastries for less than $ 16. Tons to choose from as well. I’m glad there are still places like this around.

So $ 9.19 usually buys me 3 cupcakes in Miami, but here it bought me six pastries! I tried the puff pastry filled with custard, a small vanilla cake covered with toasted coconut & cherries on top, a vanilla cupcake with icing completely dunked in chocolate & a pettifor. My favorites were the pettifor and the dipped cupcake, although my mother loved the cake with coconut & cherry. The staff is very friendly & willing to answer questions, which was nice. I just wish it was slightly larger so that I could have sat down and enjoyed my cupcake with a glass of milk or coffee.

Decent little pastry shop. Famous for their«hot dogs» which are kind of like elclairs with butter cream icing they had a few other donuts, danishes, cookies, misc treats. Not a hugh selection… but what they offer is pretty good. No place to sit down… so you have to order and leave… wish they had a place it sit down… would be nice to sit and get a cup of coffee and donut.

Delicious homemade pastry! Try one of their«hot dogs» or a Danish(I recommend the apple or cream cheese). Price was cheap, especially when considering the top notch quality!
