This is perhaps the best of all the true jewelry stores in Charleston. They do great repairs in this shop, not sent out. They know the jewelry business. Their repairs are very reasonable. Also, they appraise jewelry at realistic current value and have the equipment to document exactly what a stone is. They know how to treat customers. They do have antique jewelry as well. They do not do a lot of advertising, but I would go there first for anything I needed. I highly recommend them!

My husband and I recently returned from a Caribbean cruise where we purchased a tanzanite and diamond ring. I wanted the ring appraised and then sized down to fit my finger. We did not have a clue where to go, but received a referral form someone to go to Sohn and McClure because we were told that they have a GIA graduate who really knows what he is doing. My first contact was a phone call to ask a few preliminary questions. I spoke with Athena who was so kind and informative on the phone. The next day, we went to Sohn and McClure and and were warmly greeted by Athena. She remembered our conversation from the previous day and took us the meet Chevis Clark, the GIA gemologist. He stopped what he was doing and answered the questions we had about the appraisal. He was very patient and made us feel like we had made a good decision on our purchase. Athena then spent a great deal of time measuring my finger to get the right fit. We left that day feeling like we had made a great choice in going to Sohn and McClure. Athena called us a week later to tell us the appraisal was completed, and they would now go ahead and size the ring. We went back today to pick up the ring. We were greeted by an extremely friendly lady named Carlind. She spent so much time with us, explaining the appraisal and explaining the sizing process. We stayed and talked to her for about 20 minutes about all of the services they offer. They did an outstanding job sizing the ring because it fit perfectly. My husband and I are blown away by the incredible customer service we received at Sohn and McClure. They are very professional, but make you feel very appreciated as a customer. I cannot recommend them enough!

I brought my heirloom wedding rings to Rex at Sohn and McClure because one of the bands had broken. I expressed to him my concern of the shanks wearing thin and explained that they were over 100 years old and meant the world to me. I had previously taken them to another jeweler who wanted to reshank both of them for 500 $ each. Rex told me the bands had plenty of life in them and just needed to be fixed, cleaned up, and have the diamond secured. He gave me an honest, professional recommendation and was not just out to make money. I immediately felt very comfortable in leaving my priceless heirloom rings in his hands. Two days later(a day earlier than scheduled) I received a call that my rings were ready for pick-up! My husband went the following day to get my rings and they gave him a military discount, which is so amazing. When he brought my rings home, they were the best they have ever looked! They were absolutely gorgeously polished, radiant, and the band was fixed to perfection! Thank you so much Sohn and McClure and especially Rex for taking such amazing care of my rings! I love them and have a found my go-to jeweler!

Excellent customer service! I went in for ring measurements and was treated so well. They know their stones and pearls. I bought a perfect strand of pearls as mine originally had been stolen. I also was able to get a pair of small princess cut diamond studs for well under what I had been quoted at chain stores and online. I am looking forward to taking a diamond back to get it reset for my future husband for our wedding.

Professionals! I am glad I found this place. After visiting at least 4 other jewelers in Mount Pleasant and Charleston, I was advised to check out Sohn and McClure. I walk in, and am immediately greeted by the pleasant woman behind the counter. I show her my bracelet, a very precious and unique peace to me. Parts of the band were broken, and could not simply be welded because it would harm the large stone in the bracelet. The customer service rep looked it over in detail, told me what she thought would have to be done, etc etc… Despite the endless amount of priceless and pricey pieces she sees every day all day, she really made me feel like my peace was special. I know I found the right jeweler. After looking it over, she even went to the jeweler to see what he thought would have to be done to mend the bracelet. The jeweler was working with another customer at the time., pardoned himself, looked a my bracelet, looked at me, and not only explained exactly to me what he would have to do to repair the bracelet, but he quoted me a price. Top notch customer service. The peace was finished in about a a week. I came back, and was again greeted by 2 lovely customer service reps. When they brought it out to me, I honestly didnt even recognize it. Lol. I have had it for so long, that I forgot how shiny it could have been! The fixed and cleaned it up beautifully. The bracelet is an indigenous American piece. On the band, is an etching that I never noticed because it is so smalll. One of the ladies out of curiosity looked up the etching, and filled me in on some cool information about the peace, the maker, its origins… all of this great info. Phenomenal professionals who really care about your items, and treat them with care. They have my business!

When we were ring shopping, we found the *perfect* stone and setting at tres chic Buckar, Jewelry Architects, on King Street. Too bad it didn’t come at the perfect price. However, after some clandestine research, we located the jeweler who cut that same perfect stone(a rare orange garnet) right across the peninsula at Sohn & McClure. Rex, an adorably fidgety and shy gemologist, located some raw garnets and cut one exactly as we wanted it, then his partner created the same setting we had seen at Buckar, for around ½ the price. We could not be happier with the ring. And in the process, we learned a lot about gem cutting from Rex, who was very eager to explain the process in detail, and to show us stones from his«personal collection,» which he extracted from a big black briefcase. Due to some scheduling issues, it did take them about 2 weeks longer than they said to finish the ring, putting us just under the wire for the wedding. They were very apologetic about this, though, and overall their service was warm and caring – not exactly the attitude you can expect at flashier or mall-ier jewelers. I couldn’t find their East Bay location listed online, but it’s in a run-down looking shop just north of Saffron. They’ve also got a shop on Folly Road.
