This place is delicious! The place is clean and smells are inviting. You know exactly what to expect. No frills order cupcakes and get your happy on. Oh did you see the mega-cupcakes?! They are so cute. Give them a day or so to order. Basically get in here and get your cupcake on. Drops the mike.

Cupcakes are just OK. Flavors sound a lot better than they taste. Icing too sweet and overpowers any flavor left. Tables and floors are dirty and covered in cupcake crumbs. Come early if you want to try various flavors, they run out by the end of the day. Rude staff.

I’ve never had a bad experience! They typically have a large variety everyday and always rotate the flavors. I always bring my out-of-town guests for a treat.

Expensive at $ 3+ each(and not necessarily large, though not small either), but delicious! And lots of varieties to choose from, including several that are infused with alcohol if that tickles your fancy. I got 2, and they simply set them in a brown paper bag. Would be nice if they had some packaging that didn’t allow them to tip over so that the cupcakes don’t get smashed or the icing destroyed.

My friend and I stopped by last night to split a couple of cupcakes after browsing shops on King St. The staff was nice and the selection of cupcakes was drool-worthy. We ended up deciding on the Samoa and Salted Caramel Chocolate. I love that there is just the right amount of icing on each cupcake. I don’t feel like I’m going to go into sugar shock after eating one cupcake ;) I think the price is pretty average for a cupcakery. I purchased a cupcake and bottled water for $ 5.14(that includes tax). I love that there is seating available inside. I enjoyed the people-watching as we ate our treats. I will definitely be stopping by again soon!

These are my favorite cupcakes in Charleston. Right on King Street, the location is perfect for a quick stop before or after an afternoon of shopping. Their chocolate cake and vanilla buttercream are my favorite flavors. They have a huge display on the wall showing all of the cupcakes they have each day of the week. In addition to normal daytime hours, they’re also open late-night on the weekends and now have Firefly-infused cupcakes. I love the After-dark Chocolate Caramel Moonshine. Everyone I’ve encountered at cupcake is very welcoming and the space is really cute. You can even sit inside to enjoy your cupcake.

Last year while on vacation I stopped at Cupcake Down South. It was toward the end of the day, so there weren’t many options of flavors left, so I got a pink lemonade cupcake. It wasn’t terrible, but the icing was extremely sweet, which I am not a fan of. I decided I would try it again this year. My husband and I got 6 different cupcakes to try and share. Neither of us could get past more than a bite because the icing was so sweet. I don’t think they are necessarily«bad», but I just don’t prefer sweet icing. Icing aside, the flavors were pretty good. The cake was very dense, so they are very heavy. We tried: Red Velvet — delicious and moist Caramel Macchiato — your taste buds are smacked with a delicious coffee flavor with the caramel to follow. We really enjoyed this one. Blueberry Cobbler — the actual cake part was so flavorful Chocolate Salted Caramel — not terrible, but not our favorite. The caramel on top was delicious and the cake was moist. Cookies ‘n Cream — not bad Cotton Candy — expecting so much more than it was. We didn’t really feel like we got much of a cotton candy flavor. It looked pretty though! If you like sweet icing — these are for you! If not, I recommend at least trying the red velvet!

Curbed my hubby’s sweet tooth… he had the red velvet and chocolate mint cupcakes, loved them both. I’m sure this will be on our list of repeat stops when we head to Charleston again.

Love their cupcakes and community outreach. The store is warm and bright and so is the staff. They had a great selection of flavors with the vanilla and chocolate cupcake proceeds going to AME Church. Nice job!

I had a very hard time choosing between the«Peachy Keen» cupcake and the«Strawberries and Cream». Ultimately I decided on the peach(which also happened to be gluten free), and it was very good! I wish it had had more fruit within the cupcake, but the flavor was amazing. Plus, the shop is so cute! A must try for anyone in Charleston with a sweet tooth.

Came downtown with the hubby to explore and stumbled upon this little shop. Immediately upon entering we were greeted by the workers. I asked them about parking in the area and they gave us helpful information. The staff was very nice and attentive. I had a taste for a strawberry flavored cupcakes but they only make those on Tuesday and Sunday(I think they sAid). With that me and the hubby shared one vanilla cupcake. The cupcake really didn’t impress me(the icing was vanilla bean tasting) and the cupcake was bland. I Will admit it was fresh but I just wasn’t impressed. My husband enjoyed the rest of it and told me it had a home made taste he enjoyed. I give them a three for cute shop, service, and freshness.

My husband bought me a dozen vegan, gluten free cupcakes for my birthday. I was very disappointed. The cake was over cooked on the edges, very crumbly in the middle and oily. Where they put the frosting on, was sinking into the middle because the cake was falling apart. After taking the paper off, they immediately collapsed and fell into crumbly bits. I wish that bakeries would not offer these options if they don’t have a proven recipe. I expected better, but we ended up having almost a dozen cupcakes uneaten. If you are looking for a vegan/gluten free option this is not the place to go.

We came to this place while we were visiting Charleston, ppl in there are pretty nice… However, the cupcakes are alright… They have tons of icing on top which it’s a bit too sweet for me. As for the cake part, I think it’s a bit too dry. So over all… A fair cupcake.

The limon-blu(lemon & blueberry) was our group favorite. They had some great choices(maybe 10 or so on a Sunday). Pretty good. These«gourmet» cupcake shops seem to be everywhere now, and they’re always all the same. This was no different, nothing about it made it ‘stand out’ from the crowd for me. I would definitely stop by again.

Best cupcake I’ve ever eaten is from Georgetown Cupcakes. But Cupcake down south comes very close. It’s very moist & packed with flavor. Buy 7 and get 2 free. Great deal. Got red velvet, vanilla bean and chocolate monkey.

I came here one night for a cupcake. The décor is a little cluttered. I decided to get a vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting. I believe this wasn’t even a cupcake it was frosting with a small side of cake. Their was so much frosting on this little cake it could give you a heart attack. I simply scraped the frosting off until their was an even cake to frosting ratio. I took a bite of this cake surprised to find how dense it was! This cupcake was like a thanksgiving feast on steroids. Overall this cupcake was a killer… literally. The cake was good but too dense thanks anyway.

I love this little spot! When I was in college I would walk pass this place everyday and pine over the cupcakes! So I had to get one on my trip to visit! I got a Mocha Cupcake and it was amazing! It had little chips in it and the icing was coffee favored! Soon good! I might have to grab some to take home with me!

The cupcakes were moist and tasty and the frosting was pretty spot on(although it was a ridiculous amount). However, I can’t justify paying almost $ 4(tax) for a single small cupcake. It makes me thankful to live in a Baltimore neighborhood that serves ridiculously amazing & large cupcakes for a quarter of the price.

How could I not love a cupcake shop? The idea is so cute they pretty much had 4 stars as soon as I saw the pink and white tiled floor. We stopped in here on a Wednesday evening and I grabbed a cupcake to go. It was the end of the day(they close at 7 and it was probably 6:15) so they didn’t have all of the flavor options available, but they did still have white chocolate raspberry. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any cuter, as I was paying I saw a special order they were preparing with edible glitter… glitter cupcakes! This was truly the most amazing cupcake I have ever eaten. Most of the time with cupcakes I just eat them because they’re cute, and admittedly the cake isn’t always the best, but Cupcake Down South does not have that issue. This was a white cake with what I think was an amaretto flavoring to it. It also had a fresh raspberry baked in to the base. The frosting was equally as amazing as the cake and tasted like a cream cheese base with raspberry flavoring. For me to say the frosting and cake were equal is really saying something as I am usually a frosting girl all the way. The menu here rotates with different flavors for every weekday(they post them on the website) so naturally I had to return before leaving Charleston and got four cupcakes to go. I have to admit I brought them through airport security and flew them all the way back to Florida so my boyfriend and brother could try them. What occurred on the trip was truly a cupcake massacre so I won’t post the picture, but even eating the destroyed cupcakes with a fork out of the box they both agreed that these were amazing cupcakes. The bourbon pecan pie especially got rave reviews,

Cupcake is delicious :). I stopped in yesterday because it was Second Sunday on King Street… and no, this area of King wasn’t closed off, I walked just that far to get the cupcake, and it was worth the walk(at least I burned some of the calories for it off). Cupcakes are a little pricey so it’s more of a special monthly treat. The cupcake I had was the Samoa cupcake. It’s chocolate with caramel and coconut, like the Samoa cookie. It was delicious! Their cupcakes are even good the next day and very moist. Lots of frosting too, so if you’re more of a cake fan/less frosting, you might not care for it– but I loved it. Bonus… sign up for their email list. They send you a coupon for a free cupcake you can redeem during your birthday month.
