This is a really nice yoga studio. I was in town for work and attended a 4:30PM class here as a drop-in. It is located on a really busy street without any parking so I advise planning ahead and leaving a little early if you are driving. I ended up paying $ 5 to park in a restaurant parking lot next door because I was running late and didn’t want to circle. There are a few products for sale in the front of the studio, and there is a big curtain that separates the front from the back of the studio. Lots of room to get situated before class. I went to a Unity class which was slow chill Vinyasa flow with Hilary and only two other people for personalized attention. I really liked the class, Hilary was a great teacher. I would definitely go back next time I’m in town.

I recently bought a Groupon for Charleston Community yoga and have been to several classes. The location is very convenient for anyone in West Ashley but it’s not a bad drive from downtown or James Island, either. Located in the Avondale area, there are fun bars, shops, and restaurants nearby too. So far, I really like this studio. They have both heated and non-heated yoga classes, and the instructors offer modification for poses if you need them. They also have a cardio-based class for those who are looking for more of a workout, but there are very gentle classes for those who want to relax or recover from other exercises(like runners or crossfitters, etc). I like that it offers something for everyone. They do have a donation-based class on Wednesday around lunchtime. I haven’t been to that yet, but that’s a good way to try out the studio before buying a pass. Another thing I noticed was that the studio sells nicer hair ties/bands– which is perfect if you wind up at yoga and realize you forgot your ponytail holder!

I was on a mini vacation and looking for a yoga studio nearby. I was very pleased with my walk-in experience. The studio was clean and bright and the class size this Thursday morning was small. While I would have preferred no music or a quieter volume on the music, the poses the instructor encouraged allowed me to concentrate my efforts elsewhere. If you don’t have your own mat, be prepared to rent one for $ 1 on top of the cost for the class. I have Community bookmarked for my next Charleston getaway.

Love this place! They have a wide variety of classes at different times to fit your schedule. The studio is well done and peaceful. It makes me so happy to have a donation based yoga studio in the area… I realize the cost of other studios in Charleston is pretty average, but yoga should not only be available to those with fat wallets. I’m hooked on the Detox Flow class with Harriott — she does such a good job of taking you to the edge without making you feel like you might keel over and die. She also provides modifications for all levels, which I love. Check it out, you won’t regret it.

Great environment, wonderful instructors! This studio took my novice yoga level up a notch… warm flow is challenging but worth it, try one class and see how you feel. It’s toasty, but worth it.

Charleston Community Yoga is in the Avondale area near Gene’s Haufbrau. I had previously tried yoga several years ago and found myself quite bored and unimpressed. Having recently returned to grad school, my stress level has been increased and a friend suggested that I try giving yoga another try. My first trip back was to Charleston Community Yoga. I attended a yoga hour class taught by Stacy and was immediately hooked. The instructors there take a genuine interest in not only leading you through the poses, but making sure that your form is correct and that you are focusing on the proper techniques(breathing + moving). I left the first class feeling quite refreshed and energized. I have now attended several classes and hope to work up my nerve to try a warm-flow class — similar to Bikram. The studio room is not terribly large and this allows the instructor to easily see those attending and circulate the room to help you make adjustments to your form. However, the small room also can get quite crowded(from what I hear) on certain days/classes(like the Saturday warm-flow), but don’t let this discourage you from attending. I highly recommend Charleston Community Yoga for beginners and experienced practitioners.
