My oldest daughter completed the CMA basic and masters programs and my younger daughter completed most of the basic program. Their participation did improve their musical literacy. My major criticism is that the teachers move very fast and do not provide enough opportunity for kids to seek help. If a kid can’t follow what the teacher is doing at a fast enough pace, he or she just gets left in the dust. On the other hand, the teachers do a good job with music theory and with the basics of keyboard play. Your child will have a good sense of rhythm, understand time signatures, read music, and even have something of a musical ear if they stick out the program long enough and try. You may find that, if you move your child on to private lessons, the instructional methods change enough that CMA’s stuff recedes in importance.

Two of my children attend Children’s Music Academy at the Park HIll location in Denver. My oldest completed the 3.5 year program. I can’t say enough good things about CMA. It is an amazing program that gives children a solid, well-rounded music foundation. The thing I enjoyed most about the program is that the children get to perform in front of their classmates every week so that by the end of 3 years, they think performing is no big deal. My son is so confident when he has to speak or perform publicly, and I attribute that to CMA. The two teachers we experienced were exceptional too. I didn’t fully appreciate the program until we moved away and couldn’t find something comprable. Highly recommended!
