Stumpf’s U Cut Christmas Tree Farm

Joe got the idea in his head of how romantic it would be to slaughter our own Christmas tree to display in our living room. We searched in the surrounding area and decided on Stumpf’s based on reviews and price.
They have a helpful cute little sign directing you to their farm. Grass parking and immediate greeting. Normally I would be nervous about a strange man approaching me with a tarp and sharp saw, but this time I was excited as we grabbed our weapons and listened to what kind of trees were planted where.
We got there right as they opened at 9am, and it was beautiful to see the frost still covering the grass in the shadows of the trees… ahem… I digress. We looked and looked… and looked… and looked. Every tree is $ 49 regardless of height or type, but I prefer a shorter, more fragrant needle from my tree carcasses. Every one of these trees looked sickly and on it’s way out, or already dead. Many trees were under 5 foot, and even those had hollow centers and completely naked branches. We wandered around for a good 45 minutes before surrendering to compromise and going with a weird long needle tree as they were the only healthy looking ones.
On the way, I passed a tall tree that was dead for the first 1.5 feet, but decent after that. We jumped on it. I (yes ME!) got on my hands and knees and spent equal time sawing away at the trunk and pulling up my pants. It came down easily and we were able to trim the dead branches off the bottom and roll her onto the tarp. We dragged it in, and for an extra $ 2 the shook the tree to rid it of dead needles, birds nests etc. and then baled it for us. You go inside a little trailer and they charge you, CASH OR CHECK ONLY. They did have hot cider in there for free as well.
Overall it was a fun experience, and a great price, but the inventory just wasn’t what I was looking for.

This is like a hidden gem — or so it seemed to me.
I ventured out for my first experience cutting my own Christmas tree — and Stumpf’s was awesome. Great price — $ 47 for any tree — which is a huge deal compared to the conveniently placed lots in your neighborhood. Unique, one of a kind trees. Super friendly, family run business that I highly recommend you go to if you’re looking to cut your own tree!

It seems like every year around Christmas time, both my wife and I get brain stupid about where we got our last tree from. There are quite a few «cut your own» options even being in the city of Milwaukee, so don’t think you can’t wield a saw unless you live in the sticks.
We went to Stumpt’s again this year, after a 2 year hiatus (2010-​accidentally went to Nofkes (sp?), 2011-​were 8 months pregnant and just didn’t care), and were very happy to be «home» again. They have a flat rate no mater what size or type of tree you want. This year we got a 7′ blue spruce that would have cost us $ 75+ at other lots for $ 47. The family is super friendly, and have some hot cider and treats for their patrons. I know that the cider is cliché’, but when it’s cold, cliché’ can still hit the spot.
So if you’re still in the market for a tree, Stumpf’s is the place to go. Even if you’ve already got your tree, keep this in mind and drive out there next year. I know that we will be there for sure. I mean, half the reason that I’m writing this review is so that it will help me next year when I can’t remember the name of this place.

My wife HAD to have a real Christmas tree this year, so I decided a cut your own place would be best. Many of the other farms in the area are charging by the foot, while Stumph’s charges a flat $ 47 for every tree you cut yourself. They also had pre cut trees, but as it was a beautiful December day, so we ventured out to cut our own. I couldn’t say what the prices for the pre cut are. Bundling of the trees is available for an extra two dollars. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that I’m not sure how environmentally friendly the tree bundling is. When we cut it off the tree, it looked like the plastic rings that come with 6 packs.
