We walked in and the staff was friendly. That’s the one star. Otherwise it wasn’t all that great and I’m a pretty laid back person. I ordered a one scoop vanilla cone and it was wet as if the freezer was down. Whatever. My wife ordered a slushy due to the fact they were out of raspberry. The slushy was straight syrup over crushed ice but not in the good way. One sip and it hurt. 80% syrup and 20% ice. It wasn’t what anyone would expect. Kudos for being in business for so long, wish you luck.

Hefners is reminiscent of the custard stands of old. With bar style seating indoors and a patio deck outside. It features a couple arcade games when you walk in the door to play as you wait. On our visit we came for the custard. The white board was confusing showing the flavor of the day, vanilla and chocolate and red raspberry this particular day. When I asked about the red raspberry they said it wasn’t available. I decided to order a blue raspberry slushie instead. My husband ordered a vanilla custard one scoop in a waffle cone. The slushie was so horribly sweet I couldn’t drink it. We later bought a water at a gas station to dilute it to make it drinkable. The vanilla custard was ok. My husband wasn’t raving about it. We went to the chocolate factory to get me a cone and his cone was a drippy mess by the time I finished mine. The chocolate factory gave me a cone protector sleeve to prevent drips. Hefners did not. Although Hefners sells food items we will not be returning.

The place is really cool on the inside especially the pinball games. Food didn’t take long which was good, got a cheeseburger, cheese fries and strawberry shake. The shake was amazing. The burger was big and hot but the bun was crumbly not giving and soft. Burger was cooked to perfection, just the bun was disappointing. The cheese fries were the big downfall. The fries are amazing but you order cheese fries and you’d think they’ll be drowning in cheese sauce. But the cheese sauce came in a lukewarm plastic container and couldn’t be drizzled on nor could the fries break the cheese. Don’t get the cheese fries rip off

These are just basically bigger versions of McDonalds food. The owner is rude and only hires teenage girls… for some… creepy…reason. They’re decent burgers but Culver’s blasts it out of the water burger wise. Service is impeccablely slow.

It’s a slightly better version of Kopp’s for the north side folks. The Huge Hefner is a giant Big Mac. Jaws is a double fish sandwich for ~$ 4.50. The malts are the best in Wisconsin. $ 0.50 pinball, classic arcade games, and autographed photos galore. The reviewer who said in 2013 they shrunk the burgers is out of her mind.

I have been going to Hefners for years. Can’t go wrong with a freshly grilled burger and order of mini tacos… not to mention an excellent chocolate shake. The building needs a good cleaning and facelift. The staff is always friendly and quick with ticket times. We definitely love the happy hour burger specials.

I’ve driven past this small custard and burger joint dozens of times. Yesterday, I decided to stop in for a quick bit and custard to go. The flavor was Thin Mint, and yes, it was amazing. I want to go back during summer to sit outside and enjoy the custard and food since there really isn’t space inside to eat. The service was really nice, the burgers were great, and who can’t love custard that changes flavors daily.

There were no Bunnies to be found. I wore these pajamas, this smoking jacket and this goofy Captain’s hat for nothing… Just kiddin. I rolled up to the Burg with my daughter to have lunch with my Mom. This custard aficionado decided to get a burger with his custard. I had the appropriately named«Huge Hefner» and it was pretty damn good. Two juicy patties, a good, soft bun, cheese, fried onions and just enough Thousand Island dressing so you can still taste the burger. A lot of custard stand/diner burgers have a tendency of being overly greasy, but this one wasn’t at all. Props for that. Also mad props for having two pinball machines and two stand up arcade machines. Mom had to babysit the kid as I spent about 10 minutes playing Simpsons Bowling. More props for having Sprecher Root Beer on tap and for having a fry/onion ring mix. Sometimes I want fries, sometimes I want rings, but most of the time, I want both. This saved me a couple bucks as a couple minutes of indecisiveness at the counter. Why does everyone get a 50’s or 60’s vibe here? I get more of a 70’s vibe. Now for the Main Event. My custard choice was simple: one scoop of the most complex flavors of custard I’ve ever encountered, the«Seven C’s». I was reluctant at first, but after that first bite I sailed through the dish. You see, the seven C’s stand for– 1. Vanilla(C)ustard 2.(C)ashews 3. Oreo(C)ookies 4.(C)aramel 5&6.(C)hocolate(C)hips And 7. The(C)up it comes in. It seems weird, but it works. The custard is good and creamy. The toppings are quality, I encountered big pieces of cashew amongst the other toppings, and they were generously distributed but not overpowering to the custard itself. This is now probably in my Top 5 of custard stands. It might be really far away, but I’m sure I’ll be back for another one of their crazy flavors.

The parking lot is tiny. The building is tiny. The ordering is chaos. The food delivery is chaos. Whatever, yo. I love small places like this. They have south park pinball. They have delicious malts and shakes and ice cream and custard. It’s a local joint full of locals. They don’t need a Culver’s because they’ve got Hefner’s. Go here.

I think Lynn H. must be thinking of another place because the Hefner’s i went to this afternoon still has the 5.5″ burger. In fact, I had the double cheeseburger with fried onions, lettuce and tomato. I also had a chocolate malt. It was delicious. I would say though the place could be spruced up a bit, it is showing its age. It’s a little dingy and couls use a fresh coat of paint and some pine sol but great food.

Hefners«jumbo burgers» are now just«regular size burgers». They must be making cut backs, and everyone has noticed! Custard is still good. Culvers is now cheaper because the burgers are the same size. Sometimes you shouldn’t try to fix what’s not broken!

Short version: AWESOME Long version: my aunt and I stopped here on a sweltering day after a disappointing and not-very-filling lunch in Sheboygan.(I found Hefner’s here on Unilocal.) I got the Hefner’s Delight, which had four scoops of custard and generous amounts of toppings(hot fudge, butterscotch, marshmallow) and also pecans. They put two scoops in and then add some toppings, then the other two scoops, then more toppings. This always wins points in my book. They were also very liberal with the pecans, which is becoming increasingly rare at custard stands. My aunt got a turtle sundae and was equally pleased. She said the same thing about the toppings in the middle, and the loads of pecans. The place is on a corner, on what looked to be a busy street at that time of day(5pmish) so even though they had a little deck area set up with umbrella tables, the ambiance is a little lacking. But for someone who grew up eating hot fudge sundaes in the family car in the Leon’s parking lot, it was just about right.

I went to Hefner’s this afternoon and besides the employee’s acting as if they could care less, the food was really good. I had the double cheeseburger and it’s enormous! Seriously, like big enough for two people(hence the jumbo burger name). The tater tots are awesome and who can complain about tater tots. Cool custard/ice cream place that is a throwback from the 60’s with a total diner feel. It’s close for us to walk so that makes it even better. Definitely don’t drive by and miss this place. Stop, even if for a shake or sundae. Yum!

Ozaukee County’s version of Kopp’s. Much better than Culver’s!

Hef’s has a daily(M-F) sandwich special at a great price. For a quick burger that’s under $ 4.00 and that measures 6″ in diameter this is the place, but go all out and get a double cheeseburger with«the works» and enjoy life. Hef’s is a «cash only» place… leave the checks and plastic at home.

One of my favorite jumbo burger joints in the burg. Flavor of the day and burgers are comparable to Kopp’s. High quality food and desserts. Cash only!

Juicy, flavorful burgers and creamy, delicious custards. A classic local haunt for when you are craving a messy, wonderfully bad-for-you burger. And their cheese curds are the best around.
