I am new to town and I took in a standard article of clothing that contained very specific instructions on its tag regarding how to clean. The employees at duchess neglected to follow those instructions and nearly ruined it! What’s even worse is they knew about the damage and purposefully failed to inform me when I picked it up. After speaking to the owner, he acknowledged that he had seen the piece of clothing, and made up some completely bogus story about how it happened. Clearly they were hoping I wouldn’t notice, which was nearly impossible. Luckily my item could be repaired but it took several phone calls and over 3 weeks. This appears to be a very low class operation all the way around. I will NEVER return and if you care about your clothing, take it elsewhere.

One of my favorite shirts looks like it’s been in a street fight with a pair of distressed jeans. Duchess is expensive and they don’t do a good job. I cannot believe the prices at this dry cleaner. It’s a good thing I’m made of money, I just spent $ 165 getting 24 pieces of clothing dry cleaned. Not only was it crazy expensive, but they didn’t even do a good job. I will admit I’m prone to spending a lot of money on my clothes(and shoes). I don’t mind paying for quality. So when a dry cleaner injures my nice clothes it makes me ill. When I pay $ 12 for a dress to be cleaned and it’s shrunk I get angry. I dropped off my clothes on Tuesday July 26th. When I picked them up on Thursday one of my dresses wasn’t included. It needed a hole along the seam stitched up(about a half inch worth of sewing). I called and asked where it was and when I can pick it up, it won’t be ready till August 11th. August 11th!!! Two and a half weeks?! Not only is this way too long to wait for such a minor alteration, they told me everything would be ready on Thursday the 28th. Sooo, to sum up my rant/review…poor quality service, expensive, takes too long. Go elsewhere.

A truly disappointing experience. I used Duchess Cleaners on the advice of a new colleague after relocating to Cedar Rapids. We have a dry cleaning service at work but, since it is a casual work environment, the pickups have become infrequent and the cost for my single dress would have been silly. So I trekked to Duchess Cleaners on Center Point Road and left my dress in their care. My colleague said their prices were reasonable and that they often have coupons online so I was encouraged. I checked their website and did, indeed, find a coupon — that had expired three months ago. As a web strategist, I was disappointed with the entire online experience, but was willing to forgive this shortcoming as I’m familiar enough with how difficult it can be for small businesses to allocate budget to this kind of marketing necessity. Several days later, when I went to pick up my dress, the waiting area was grungy and sweltering. Not that I care too much what the décor or the climate of my dry cleaner is, but I do expect an organization that touts cleaning as its primary business — clothing or otherwise, to at least have a clean waiting area. An industrial size fan blew hot air at me with great force as I tried to hear what they teenager behind the counter was telling me. They had stained my dress. There was a note pinned to it that they could get it out if I wanted them to. If I wanted them to??? Was he kidding? I was flabbergasted that they didn’t take this initiative upon themselves. It isn’t a difficult dress to clean and other dry cleaners had managed successfully in the past. Why they left it dirty for me to decide was beyond me. They had my phone number. Then, the kicker — they charged me! Full price! I paid them to make my dress dirtier. I was absolutely disgusted and didn’t make a secret out of this. The kid behind the register obviously didn’t care about my situation nor did he have the ability or gumption to make a decision that would help me. I paid for the dress, took it home and removed the stain myself. But I will never, ever take any of my clothing back to Duchess Cleaners again. That is, unless I should have need for someone to make them dirtier.
