We held our daughter’s wedding reception in a small town about 45 minutes from Cedar Rapids and since we are from Maine, all of our contact was by emails and phone calls. Most of our contacts in Iowa were AWESOME. .. efficient, organized, and trustworthy, from the venue(Eagles Club in Monticello) to the plant/tree rental(151 Landscape in Monticello) to the cake(Classic Cakes by Design) — all of these deserve 5 stars! Please support them if you can! HOWEVER, my dealings with A Touch of Class were a bit different. Initially Ruth Dunlevy, the event coordinator, seemed very friendly and efficient. As we got closer to the event, there seemed to be a disconnect between what we talked about on the phone or in emails and what Ruth would then say later or write on the invoice. I should have realized then that I had to be on my toes! Big mistake! She was 20 minutes late on the morning I was due to pick up my order of tablecloths and silverware, none of which was ready so I had to wait(and follow her around) to get it. Our silverware was simply guesswork that we would have enough as she threw them into a tray. When I began setting up tables late Friday night I found that she had NOT given me the three round tablecloths on my order. When I tried to call to have her send them up with the food on Saturday I had to leave a msg as she didn’t answer. We never did get them and the tables looked terrible(to me, a stickler for details). A buffet cover was supposed to be there in time for our appetizers at 4:30 which was not there. The good news is that the food was pretty good, not great, but pretty good. The buffet server who came was dressed in black and was very sweet and efficient, but I don’t recall her name. The other two attendants who were clearing plates were dressed in street clothes, however —(how hard is it to wear black pants and a black shirt??). I have sent Ruth a pointed email outlining my disappointment in her service and requesting she send me the $ 30 for the tablecloths I didn’t get. I haven’t heard a word from her, and thus the review here. Would I recommend them for a wedding reception? No, and mostly for the above reasons, but also because in Maine, we don’t do business like this. The two stars were for the food only-their attempt at customer satisfaction deserves no stars.
