Best hole in the wall beer, wine & cigar pub… Fits the Cedar Key island time motto and the music whether live or not is on point! Our favorite

The venue is comfortable inside and out and you can bring your dog too. Inside had several seating options and nooks. Outside seating a bit less comfortable as several seat options were broken. The sangria rocked and a nice beer selection.

Owner is a very kool guy. Nice ambience. Not my kinda place usually but they have some pretty nice cigars(my passion) and alot of craft beers. But its a nice place for a cozy chat if you are on a date night. Very welcoming atmosphere. If your in towne and fancy a cigar or just wanna hideout with your date on dock street check this place out.

I was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t busier on a Saturday night, but I suppose it fits with the chill attitude of the rest of the island. There was some live music upstairs, but after getting our beers from inside(all in large refrigerators– I didn’t see any taps) we got cigars and enjoyed the great views off the dock. The cigar selection was small but had what we wanted. i would’ve loved to chat with the bartenders and maybe some other patrons? But maybe next time…

Note: This is a cash-only bar. Without a doubt our favorite spot in Cedar Key for a drink. The owner Tj is a really friendly guy(and actually did me a great favor by letting me know that there was a lightning storm incoming, giving me just enough time to run outside and get this photograph: ). There’s plenty to do and places to lounge inside, along with a standard bar and a large deck out on the water. Choose your beer from the cooler and bring it to the bar, and Tj will open it for you and optionally give you a frosted mug for it. If you’re not sure, just ask — he knows his beer. Wine is also offered, as well as Tj’s own homemade sangria(the sangria is very delicious and worth a try). Overall, a great place. Next time we’re in the area, we’ll be spending more time here for sure.

I love this place! With over 100 beers to choose from(all in bottles or cans so don’t show up expecting a crazy lineup of tap handles) — it’s safe to say there’s something for everyone. and then some! And yes, it is a cigar bar that allows cigar smoking inside, which I happen to think is pretty rad, so just be ready for that. But if you’re not into cigars, there is outdoor(on the water) seating on three sides of the building, so you’ll get plenty of fresh air. And if you’re not into beer, be sure to check out their homemade sangria — which changes with the seasons and is SO good! Oh, and they do have wine as well. Every time I’ve been there, the crowd is friendly, the owner is awesome, and they even have live music most weekends, which is always nice. Just a heads up, there isn’t any food service here, but lucky for you, there are plenty of options to choose from. If I were you, I’d check out Away From The World Café upstairs or Big Deck Raw Bar across the street. You can get your order to go and bring it to Black Dog to enjoy.

What a cool, laid back, yet energized cigar pub. From the eclectic furnishings, to include old Barber Chairs, to multiple games & informal comfortable seating, The Black Dog is quite unique in every way. After a bad dining experience upstairs, at a restaurant unrelated to The Black Dog, it was a greatful, fun, relaxing solace for us to relax. You could not ask for a better place to watch the sunset, with it being directly on the water and being surrounded by decking. They have a vast array of beer & the wine selection is sparse, but good. We got our adult beverages, a few cigars & adjourned to the porch to chat & enjoy the sunset. What a way to relax & end a day! Beautiful. They have multiple games inside to include checkers, chess, corn hole… for the patrons to enjoy. One thing I noticed was there was a fair amount of locals here and not just all tourists, a good sign in my book. I am not sure if it was because of the festival, but $ 10.00 per glass of wine is a bit stiff for a cigar pub, either way we had an enjoyable time & will defiantly return, next time I am in town. What’s a girl to do? Enjoy the simple, special moments in life.

The vibe is casual & friendly. No, very casual and very friendly. It permeates this place, and transmits from owners to patrons. The beer selection is excellent and the bartender(who is also the owner Jay when I have been there) will make recommendations, remembers names, and makes great small talk. There are delicious, local fresh roasted peanuts. The only strike is that it has no food, but they are pretty transparent that they are not a restaurant. The bar is named after the owners’ actual black dog, who is named Otis and will plays ball. It’s a place you can drink, swear, and have a great time. May not be for everyone, but perfect in my book.

Cool Cigar Bar. CASHONLY! Lots of different beer selections. You can hang out inside or on the front or back deck. You can play a game of Chess, Darts, or Cornhole while you hang out. It was completely empty both nights we went(Fri-Sat), so we had the entire bar to ourselves. I think if they want more people here, maybe offer some type of live music, even if it was just a one man show.

By far the coolest place in Cedar Key! We really enjoyed hanging with owners Jay and Connie with their dog Otis. Awesome sangria, microbrews, wines, cigars, and atmosphere. No food, pick up something before you come in(avoid Seabreeze next door). Bring cash or check(common practice in this area).

We visited over the summer and had a great time. The beer selection is amazing and the owner was a lot of fun to talk to. The vibe in Cedar Key is VERY laid back… and you almost feel like you are stepping back in time, but folks are not as friendly as you may expect. It feels like a town that is having to rely on tourism to help their economy but resenting every minute of it. The Black Dog was definitely the best part of our vacation.

Awesome place! Very fun atmosphere. Great beer selection and good wines as well. The owner made us feel welcome and comfortable. If you are a cigar smoker this is a must see. Not to worry non-smokers, the deck is just as wonderful as inside. Will definitely be back!

We were here about 7 months ago and always find the beer selection phenomenal. We don’t smoke cigars but there is plenty of room on the front, back and side decks to escape the smoke. The owner is around and quite helpful in finding you that perfect brew!

Black Dog is doing it exactly right in all the ways that matter. Great beer selection — pick out your beer and take it up to the bar for a clean chilled glass. Delicious Sangria, plenty of wines in sparkling clean glasses. Peanuts to munch on. Unique sitting areas, large outdoor patio/deck areas, darts and a few board games. Great spot.

I didn’t expect to find a place this cool in Cedar Key. They have an amazing beer select of over 150 different craft beers. You get to go to the cooler and select what you want so there is no pressure if you want to take your time. They also have a nice wine selection. When we went no one was smoking so that made the visit much more enjoyable. The atmosphere is very relaxing as they have couches and tvs with windows to separate the areas. They also have free meatballs in the crockpot to enjoy and peanuts. This is hands down the best night life spot in the area. They don’t take credit cards but do take cash and checks.

We were visiting Cedar Key recently and BDBT was our go to hang out spot. Friendly staff and manger. Enjoyed the beer and peanuts sitting on the deck outside, great view of the Gulf. The beer, extensive selection, is displayed in coolers and you can just grab what you want and let the staff know to put it on your tab. At night, they had a great two piece band and my husband enjoyed a nice cigar. Finally, totally dog friendly in every respect.

Great beer selection! Great conversation! Coolest place in town to put your feet up(literally, they have a hammock outside). Beautiful view of the waterfront. Very eclectic interior without all the usual Cedar Key dust bunnies.

This is a nice place to stop when in Cedar Key, even more so when you are there during the hot summer months. They have a huge selection of, they claim, 99 beers and a great wine list also. The staff is always friendly. The have games you can play such as chess or just sit out on the back deck and stare out at the water. They also offer live music from time to time.

I had never been to Cedar Key and my boss had recommended another bar but only because they play nonstop Jimmy Buffet. So after realizing they only had domestics and their best beer was Landshark(owned by Jimmy Buffet), we drank 1 down and continued our recon of this quaint gulf front town. We walked up to Black Dog, saw the sign that read«70 beers», and attacked. I’m from Miami and have been to some really cool bars around the world and this is one of them. The interior has an old dentist chair, leather couches, a jukebox and Ms. Pac-Man! They have their beers in packs all around, like a store, so you can see what you might want. They also have a long menu of just beers. I found my new favorite beer, Buffalo Bill’s Orange Blossom. I had never had it but I’m on the ocean, why not? Black Dog is family owned and EVERYONE that worked there was awesome. They all made sure we were ok, brought us peanuts and made conversation. I kinda felt like I was at the house of a friends’ parents. They also sell cigars, which they’ll help you pick, and you can actually smoke inside. I can’t wait to go back!
