Not good at all. The BBQ was dry and I felt it was seating way to long. I could make better sides my self at my own house. If you had good BBQ you will know how bad this place is. I gave it a 2 for the free ice cream.

The bbq was OK the price for a chop beef sandwich was to expensive with no sides. We spent 26.00 for two orders.

I’ll give this place 4 stars because they are really good but sometimes inconsistent and could use a few improvements just like every other business. I always get the loaded baked potato with the chopped beef brisket. It’s always delicious and I think you get a decent amount of food for under 10 bucks. I don’t mind paying more for good BBQ so it’s def worth it. I wouldn’t go as far as to say this is the best BBQ place I’ve ever been to, but the BBQ places in Cedar hill/Desoto seem to be limited and I will say this is my go to when I’m in town. For the entire family(4 adults) we can all get a meal for under 40 bucks. Which to me isn’t unreasonable seeing how this isn’t a McDonald’s drive-thru. Definitely worth giving this place a try if you live in the area and you enjoy good BBQ!

Was not impressed at all. Brisket was dry, sausage was ok, potato salad tasted like store bought. Left most of it on plate will never go back. Only positive thing was service was good. We were asked about our meal & I told them exactly how I felt, they apologised & invited us back in hopes of better experience & reviews. Our visit was actually awhile back but even a free meal has not enticed us back.

Good solid BBQ. I would recommend. I forget what used to be here, but it seems about the same quality — I enjoyed everything down to the okra. Fun tip: take photos outside with the giant metal sculpture. Very Texanish touristy, but still. a good photo.

Really enjoyed the food here. Almost didn’t go due to the low star rating, but I’m glad that we did! The pulled pork was fantastic!

There are only a few options for BBQ in Cedar Hill so this is definitely one that you want to try out if in town. They are constantly running good lunch specials which is what brought me in today. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with two sides which included fried okra and a side of Mac and cheese. The sandwich was a perfect lunch size with pork that was full of flavor and not dry. The okra a fresh out of the fryer and the Mac… Well it’s Mac and cheese, who doesn’t love Mac and cheese! Lol Anyway, this is a good place which a lot of options for everyone at a reasons price.

I’m saddened by the reviews I’ve read… I really like this place. I’ve driven past this place several times and always wondered about it but I never heard anything about this place, good or bad. Finally, a coworker came in with food that looked pretty good. She enjoyed it and said she’d be back. So of course that gave me the courage to try it. I’m very picky about my food and don’t like to waste my money. I to had a good experience. I’ve been twice, ordered the chopped brisket sandwich both times. The sweet BBQ sauce is tasty. Tried the apple pie and the potato salad and I thought both were pretty good. Cole slaw wasn’t good but I don’t like coleslaw from anywhere except KFC. Customer service was great as well. They even offered samples of a couple sides on my first visit. I really appreciated that :) I will definitely be back!

I like Soulman’s. Is it as good as Off the Bone BBQ or Longoria’s? No. But it’s easy to get to, is relatively inexpensive and is pretty consistent. I really like the loaded baked potato with chopped brisket. The brisket is really good. It’s moist, lean(with just enough fat) and is seasoned well. The chicken is hit or miss. If you get it early it’s good but sometimes it’s dry, maybe because it has sat under the heat lamp too long. The sausage is also pretty good. Not the best, but worthy of the $ spent. The ribs were also hit or miss for me. One of my ribs was really good. One of them was a bit dry, though, almost as if it was too hot in one area of the smoker. The sides are pretty good as well. I don’t have any legit complaints about the sides. They aren’t special but they compliment everything well. The deserts are where I really am left desiring more. The banana pudding needs some work. It was too soggy and didn’t look really appetizing. The cobbler was the same way. The crust was just too soggy. I like some crispness to my cobblers. As far as service, the guys working the shop are really nice and eager to please. They don’t skimp you on meat and are quick about getting people through the line. Overall, this is a good after church spot or lunch spot. Nothing major to complain about. It’s good, solid BBQ. Could be better, but I’ve also had a lot worse in the area. This will satisfy your cravings if you are in the area.

Great place to a quick meal, at first I saw the regular reviews and I was hesitant, but I tried it and was very happy with the meal. Management can work more on customer feedback to not end up with bad reviews cause in my opinion it is a pretty good BBQ and the sides were delicious, specially the pinto beans and the creamy corn. Will stop by again for sure. And add the free soft serve ice cream at the end. Nice meal.

The only thing that is marginally good to come out of this restaurant is the baked potato. Im a sucker for good stuffed potatoes, and the double barrel is a nice try. It will do in a pinch. I am sorry to be writing a bad review for an establishment that espouses Christian values. But the problems with their BBQ cannot be ignored. As some other reviewers have mentioned, Soulman’s is pretty«proud» of their fare. The brisket is marginal, the sausage is ok, the sauce leaves a lot to be desired. The beans are good, the mashed potatoes taste like they started from a box, and the mac and cheese is suited for toddlers who don’t have very developed palates. The«soul bowl» is an almost direct try to replicate gut packs from Vitek’s in Waco. I mentioned being proud? 4″ sandwich, one side and a drink for almost 9 bucks? Maybe if it were BBQ that were rated tops in the state or something, but I could probably do better on my home pit or my oven than what is coming off the line at Cedar Hill Soulman’s(and usually do). Cedar Hill is screaming for a good BBQ place, but at this current time, Soulman’s does not fit that bill.

I went for lunch today and ordered the loaded potato with sausage. A good size potatoe well baked but the loaded potatoe flavor was lacking. The cheese didn’t even taste like cheese. I’m pretty tough on sausage and theirs was ok. I won’t go back.

Nothing really bad to say, I just have NOTHING good to say either. Hard working people behind the counter but that’s not what I came here for. When you call yourself«Soulman’s BBQ» you’d expect at the very least, something like Odom’s BBQ. I think Soulman has opened up so many restaurants that the«Soulman» flavor has left the building. You should change the name to «Williams BBQ» like Williams Chicken and be done with it. True story. Waiting on my oil change for my car, I was sitting next to a lady in the waiting room. She was eating some BBQ from a Styrofoam container. I asked her how was it and she said«…I got this at Soulman’s but it aint got no flavor. I’m not going back again». I hear ya.

I’ve never been more disappointed with BBQ in Texas than when I stopped here today. The smoke in the brisket was nonexistent, the beans were bland and the sauce left a lot to be desired. Maybe this was an off day I’m not certain but I won’t be back.

They have fairly decent barbecue, but everything else is hit or miss. For example, the loaded baked potatoes. They’re pretty standard, and round out a meal fairly well. They could do a better job of dressing them up(would it kill you guys to offer some chives and REAL butter?!). The mac and cheese is okay-ish, depending on how you like it. It’s too salty for my tastes. The banana pudding is horrible. It’s mushed together, has an old, chemical taste, and doesn’t at all resemble banana pudding. I usually judge BBQ places based on their banana pudding, and well, this place falls way short. The service is okay, too. I might go back when I’m in town again, but just for the barbecue. The Texas toast was pretty good, as well. Make sure you get it.

It was a Thursday night, and I was in the mood for barbecue, so my wife, son and I drove over to the Spring Creek Barbecue over on Wheatland. The parking lot was full, the line was long, and I didn’t have time to wait. I’d seen the Soulman’s Barbeque sign in Cedar Hill, and decided to give it a try. The place was nearly empty, but we’d eaten at a Soulman’s in Grand Prarie several years ago(since closed) and had liked it, so we went on it. The food was a mixed bag, to say the least. The brisket was dry and tasteless. The ribs were ok, but a bit greasy. The smoked turkey on the other hand was absolutely delicious. Of the vegetables the three of us tried, the green beans were very salty, mashed potatoes were watery, the cabbage was good, the fried potatoes with jalapenos were wonderful, as were the pinto beans with jalapenos. Both of the last two were quite spicy, but delicious if you don’t mind the heat. This is one of those places that make you kind of mad. They have enough things that are good to show you the potential, but enough things that aren’t good to make you doubt that potential will ever turn into a good restaurant. The smoked turkey was good enough to warrant a trip all by itself, but you can’t have a barbecue place in Texas survive for very long if you don’t know how to make brisket. If you’re brisket’s poor and your ribs aren’t all that good, you’ve got two strikes against you. If you add on that they’re more expensive than the other, better barbecue joints in the area, then you generally don’t have a restaurant that will be around very long.

I’ve eaten here twice now, and I’m even more disappointed that Big Mike retired and Longhorn BBQ closed. The first time I had the chopped beef sandwich with macaroni and cheese and green beans. The beef was ok, if a bit dry, the green beans a bit greasy and the mac n cheese sadly tasteless. The second time, which was last night, I had chopped smoked pork with green beans and potato salad. Again, the pork was dry and filled with too much fat. The green beans were greasy, and the potato salad tasted like vinegar. I’m sad to say this place is really disappointing, especially considering the prices here. Mr. Soulman is REALLY proud of his food. I doubt I’ll return, continuing my search for a new favorite barbecue spot in(around even?!) Cedar Hill.

I was there today and lets just say this place is nothing special, I had the baked potato with meat(was decent for the $) had an order of okra(I’ve made much better tasting okra myself) and a side of macaroni & cheese, I had to keep adding salt & pepper to everything every minute, my son even said if I’d add more salt I’d end up having a heart attack, I told him I wouldn’t have to add so much salt if the food wasn’t so tasteless… My son had the sliced beef sandwich(which was so small) and mashed potatoes and he had the same tasteless experience. I was planing on getting the bbq ribs but if they can’t even get the small stuff right then I rather spend my money at a place that actually has tasty food. If you like tasteless food at reasonable prices then this is your place. I might go back but only for the baked potato because is so big and this place is only 5 min away from my house and nobody else in Cedar Hill sells big baked potatoes otherwise I wouldn’t go back at all. You want good bbq meat, sides and even deserts in Cedar Hill? Go to Christopher’s bbq or at least check their reviews here on Unilocal
