The barista was very friendly and nice, and made a delicious blended Mexican mocha drink! The owner did not seem very nice or engaging at all and my husbands drink was watered down, probably won’t return.

From the warm greeting from the friendly owner behind the counter to the quality coffee bar and home-made morning muffins, scones, coffee cakes and what have you to the cozy old school coffee house vibe this little place has — well I just wanted to pack it up and bring it back home. Cayucos morning breakfast options are minimal, and our inn’s continental options a little pitiful, so I was happy to look out my window at 6 am and see Top Dog shining like a warm little beacon of hope on a foggy morning. The lattes and mochas are fab, but there are numerous, more creative options to be had. My breakfast bagel choice of egg, provolone, bacon, on an everything bagel was delish, ditto the Rosemary lemon scone I tucked into my purse for later. So many times when traveling through small towns I’ve felt I have the giant T on my forehead for tourist — you know, begrudgingly tolerated for the pesos we bring — but I straight up swear, Cayucos locals are seriously warm and friendly everywhere. I could have sat in this little coffee shop all morning talking to my new local friends, but there were beaches to walk and stores to poke around in, etc. And did I say dogs? This town is dog crazy. Take yourself and your dog to Top Dog and set the zen for the rest of your day!

If you’re a coffee lover and in the area, Top Dog Is a must stop. Apart from the great coffee, the atmosphere is fun and the staff are very fun. You can instantly taste the quality in their coffee and chai. I’ve been to both locations and the duo does not disappoint. I highly recommend this coffee bar.

I was lured in with their acai bowl sign outfront. And got the lox bagel instead. Just when you think that advertising something in your storefront instantly helps your customer’s decision, think again. After briefly scanning the menu, I was happy to see that they offered a breakfast lox sandwich for $ 8.95. My mind was saying: «SF prices at this small town in Morro Bay?!» :0 nevertheless, it was worth it! Even though my everything bagel was nicely toasted, it still had a soft chew indicating just baked freshness. I emphasized to the kind man at the counter to go easy on the cream cheese and he got it right. They were generous with the salmon slices and the chopped red onions balanced the saltiness of the lox and the capers. It was supremely satisfying! I hardly get bagels for breakfast, but I’ve been eating so much oatmeal the last couple of weeks that this was such a welcome treat. Top Dog, you got it right!

Nice place in the middle of downtown. We had icecream and some baked goods. Brazilian icecream flavor was just excellent.

Great service. Nice guy behind the counter. Only one roast of coffee available at a time, so not a home run for my dark roast loving husband. That said, the medium roast was quality coffee and the Earl Gray tea was wonderful.

I had a terrible latte here. It might have been the worst I’ve ever had, or certainly a contender. It tasted awful, probably because of the brackish mineral-riddled water they used. The price was more than it ought to have been for the product. I only visited this establishment because a client suggested meeting there. Never again.

Much improved from when it first opened! And right now the only coffee shop in town. They are far more personable and on top of things there and now have a back door patio for loungers. Still doesn’t quite offer what the Morro Bay shop does but it keeps getting closer …

Delicious ice blended Mexican mocha! The girl working there was very sweet and friendly. I’ll order coffee here again, when I visit the area. :) (I was recently in the area again and went to the Morro Bay location, which is just as awesome!)

Stopped here on Friday morning at 6:15 ish, looking for a «wake up». The coffee was ready, nice and hot, and of very good quality. It was exactly what I was looking for, really hit the spot. I did not try any food here, just coffee. I wanted to comment on the service too, the girl working was quite cheerful and friendly in this early am hour. I will return here again. Great coffee!

The only saving grace was the friendly service. I asked about their ham breakfast burrito, and was told it was $ 8 something. They’re out of their minds, I thought to myself. I got two medium mochas(9 bucks total!), as I was bringing one to a friend. Mine was complete garbage. I know she made them to order — I saw her make them and I waited at least ten minutes with no one ahead of me — but it tasted like one of those just add water instant mocha packets you get at the dollar store. I took a few sips and dumped it. Never again.

Cute place and a great spot to get coffee! Obviously dog friendly which is a plus. Water bowl out front and long lines in the morning! There are places to sit as well.

Best coffee and service in Cayucos. It’s one of our favorite stops when visiting. The coffee is always perfect and the service is even better. I don’t know where the owner finds the help but they are fantastic. I always tell my friends about this place!

My husband and I stopped in to grab a cup of coffee and a quick breakfast. We were there for an unexpectedly long time, and ended up getting on the road nearly a half hour after we planned. Though we had allowed time to eat, we ended up having to eat in the car. The girl who took our order(which was two black coffees, two breakfast burritos) kept taking more and more orders instead of filling any current orders. She was young and it seemed as if she needed some help knowing how to handle current customers along with newer walk-in customers. There was another girl who eventually turned up behind the counter who just chatted instead of making any food or drinks. Once we finally got them, the breakfast burritos were fine; they were also pre-made and microwaved, and seemed a bit expensive for food that wasn’t prepared fresh. The biggest issue for us was that there were flies everywhere. I mean EVERYWHERE, including a dead fly inside the simple syrup, flies crawling on the pastries, and flies crawling all over us. Most customers were outside, which we would have done if our food had been ready quickly enough for us to sit and eat. We really wanted to like our experience here, it just turned out not to be for us. Since so many other people are huge fans of the coffee shop, I’ll chalk it up to catching them on an «off» day.

Acai bowls and black coffee are the only things I’ve tried here and I have to tell you, they were both so good I seriously can’t get anything else. So delicious. I just bought one to share with the hubby and I had to go back for another, not because they’re small because they’re actually a good size, but because he didn’t want to share. one thing you need to know is that the service matches cayucos culture: pleasant and slow.

I was in need of a coffee from a real Italian espresso machine and dang didn’t I get lucky! I saw a few lights on at the Pieman and the Top Dog Coffee Bar. The stainless steel machine at the door of the Top Dog guided me in like a beacon. A lovely young barrista named Jessica was just opening up. I ordered a latte in a real ceramic coffee mug. She showed me a few. One too big… one too small… and then one just right! Seems Jessica is serious about the quality of her coffee. Every morning she needs to warm up the machine and test the first few espressos to make sure the flavor is right. I love a Pro no matter what the business is because you gotta have passion in this world. Plus she’s pretty cute and a good talker. Nothing like a woman who wakes up with a smile in the morning. Nuthin’ grumpy about her :) Sippin’ a great mug of Joe beats watered-down Folger’s any day. Life is too short to drink bad coffee. No cigarette smell in here. Just one cool place if you are in the area. 5 stars from Phish!

Warm and friendly staff… great local find for both coffee and ice cream. Only a few tables and I’m not sure if they have wifi and there are only w couple tables. Great place in downtown to grab and go

Super cute coffee shop in downtown Cayucos. I’ve been my last two times to Cayucos and I’m not quite sure if there’s even another coffee shop in town. If there is one, I wouldn’t try it anyway because this place is so cute and so great. I had a chai(with almond milk! They have almond milk!) which was just the right level of sweetness. They have an amazing selection of drinks including a peppermint mocha with Dominican chocolate. What? Hopefully I’ll have a chance to try it next time…

Coffee is a necessity for me. It keeps me from poking people right in their eye when they annoy me. And while it’s an important part of fueling my day. I can be, let’s just say… not so fun(please reference eye poking), before it’s ingested. But the good folks at Top Dog put up with my not so fun self and waited patiently while I tried to decide what kind of coffee people order when on vacation. This seems like a pretty serious decision. In the end, the coffee was Noms. The service was patient and helpful, and the not so fun me was transformed magically into a happy tourist again. Love this place.
