Back in the day Skippers was a tradition. Every time we passed through Cayucos we would stop for fried clams and fries. The food was great, and the service was laid back, relaxed. A real family diner experience. My partner and I came in on a Friday at peak lunch hours. The first real warning sign was the place was totally abandoned. No signs of the the local lunch crowd I remembered. The waitress almost seemed annoyed by our arrival, No pleasantries or any real communication. I asked for a glass of water and the waitress simply pointed to the sign on the window sill about the charge for water. They don’t take plastic, and didn’t have any signs pointing out in the front, I realized before we ordered that I didn’t have enough cash for both food and tip I told the waitress that I needed to pull out cash and we would be right back. I received the dirtiest look and a grunt. I can’t judge on how the food was, because I couldn’t stomach returning. Maybe I hit a bad day, but I’ll never return.

And again now, for whatever reason they are cash only. So embarrassing to bring family, and not have enough cash on hand for 8 people. No, I would not like to spend more money to use the atm next door. Tap-tap. I’m done.

This is an old standby. The food is quite pedestrian but, well prepared. They provide ample portions. The wait staff is great and deserves special comment. I love the liver and onions. This place is great for a quick bit. It is unimposing. It is a natural fit for its location. I would noot recommend this spot for a date.

Up front is a take out window reminiscent of the Giant Burger drive ins but out back is a spacious patio with a view of the beach and it is dog friendly! Typical greasy spoon food selection but they serve a good breakfast at a reasonable price. Service was fast and friendly!

Poor. They’re in a TOURISTTOWN and DON’T ACCEPTCREDITCARDS! For goodness sake, people! Food was moderate, nothing great, nothing terrible. The veggies for the burger were fresh, that’s good. But they use Kraft Cheese on their burgers, which don’t include fries in the price. They close super early(around 2:30pm they put up the«closed» sign), and yet don’t serve breakfast after noon on holidays and special event days… ??? Everyone else in town is conserving water by giving smaller glasses and only if you ask for it. The place is charging for water bottles only. Lame-sauce. They look like a old fashioned diner, and have a patio on the beach, but you can visit Duckies down the street instead for better service and use your CC.

First and last time there. They don’t take debit/credit cards but will suggest using the ATM outside for a fee of course. We didn’t see the no cards sign until after we ordered. The lunch menu seemed over-priced for what was received. I think my chicken sandwich was from a baby chick, and I ordered it with no mayonnaise, so it came with lots of it !!! The waitress proceeded to refill the condiments while we were still sitting at the table… rude ! Just saying.

The view at Skippers would be perfect except for the beach parking! Still, you can totally see the ocean and the patio is clean and bright. My breakfast tasted great — ½ order french toast, perfect egg over easy and sausage. The sausage was sort of dull, but not bad. Service was fast and friendly. I don’t see how you can go wrong for $ 9 with this view!

This was my first visit to Skippers, and definitely will be my last. Upon arrival, I saw a sign that should have been my indication to turn around and leave. «Due to exceptional drought situation we are now ONLY serving bottled water». This is unconscionable. Bottled water uses more water than tap. The server actually refused to give us tap water when I asked. Using the drought as an excuse to sell bottled water is unacceptable. Aside from that, the clam chowder was the worst I’ve ever had — it was actually yellow, not white. And the service was non existent — we got the food and the check and never saw our server outside of those two times.

Just happened to eat here while visiting the area, we asked for water to drink they said they only offer bottled water, ok, whatever, so that’s what we got, then after sitting for awhile our water gets warm so we asked if we could have a cup of ice for our bottled water and the waitress was uncomfortable telling us she wasn’t sure if we could, she will check but we would be charged. What?!? She also told us the reason for not offering water by the glass is because of the drought, which does not make sense otherwise they would be serving bottles/cans of soda instead of fountain drinks. Food was ok but will not be going back due to the fact that we are not allowed to have ice water at this establishment.

I just love the breakfast burrito; it’s huge! Eggs, bacon, cheese… yum! They also have a new server who smiles a lot; we liked her! Because of the drought, they are not only charging for water, but overcharging. Fifty sense for four ounces of water is ridiculous. They had begin to take cards for payment, but now they’re back to cash only. The burrito will probably keep pulling me back in!

Classic beach greasy spoon with a laid back patio. Wanna go fancy? Move on down the road. Looking for a beach burger and fries for the beach in a sack? Then this is the spot. Tell the wife and kids you’ll be back. Call in your order, walk back to your beach spot and be the envy of the folks with coolers and cold food. I’ve been going here for over 10 years and never been disappointed. Surf’s up!

It was our first time Skippers and will definitely be our last. The one positive thing I can say is that the restaurant is conveniently located in town. There were two of us for breakfast and unfortunately nothing good could be said about either of our orders or our experience. Maybe it was an «off-day» for both the cook and the waitress. We were the only customers in the restaurant at the time yet the waitress seemed genuinely annoyed at our presence. Our orders were delivered(don’t get me started on trying to place an order!) and were honestly bad. Overcooked eggs, dry dollar cakes, etc. It was disappointing but neither of us even had a chance to order something different because she didn’t come back to the table until she brought the check. Only then did she ask if we needed anything. No smile, no friendliness, no offer to refill our coffee. Just went off and ate and read the newspaper. I don’t expect 5 star service in a diner, but I would have appreciated an attempt at basic service. I have never written a review before until now. We were both disappointed at the lack of service and the poor quality of the food. Maybe we came on the wrong day and it would have been a different experience, but neither of us are going to take that chance.

First time here, went inside to order to go, very friendly staff and quick service for my visit. My boyfriend and I ordered the sand dollar sandwich(amazinggg!) and the breakfast burrito(a little too eggy for my taste, we ended up swapping meals, still yummy though!) got a side of bacon as well and I have to say, some of THEBEST bacon I’ve had. I’m a big fan of bacon but sometimes it’s just not that good, but this place has wonderful bacon it was delicious overall good experience! Will be back next visit to Cayucos:)

Very good breakfast, and amazing fish and chips! Cute cowboy décor, great beachside patio and Stephanie our server was on point! Reasonable prices and overall a very good experience. We visit this place every time we come to California. Coming from someone from Atlanta the biscuits and gravy on the west coast rock, I get them every time we come!

First time in Cayucus and ran into this little gem. Looks family owned. Service was good. Outside patio was a great place to eat outside. Food was good and prices were fair. Not much selection in town to choose from. It was nice to sit down and have a good meal that was tasty! Thank you for feeding us!!!

When the highlight of the meal is that the flies didn’t actually land on your food, you know it wasn’t a good experience. The restaurant it self looks like it was decorated through a series of stops at yard sales. It is aiming for a cowboy theme but missed the mark and landed on an «other people’s junk» theme. I’m not sure if the A/C was broke but it certainly wasn’t on. We were sweating by the time the food arrived. The service was poor at best. The waitress seemed to want to be anywhere but working. Think«angry school teacher» who doesn’t even try to be nice. The food itself wasn’t bad, but by the time it came there was no saving the experience.

The price was really cheap for the coast. The burgers we had were good but the service was not at all. How do you serve up two identical hamburgers to the same table and forget the pickles and onions for one? Fries are adequate but the onion ring were great. Biggest problem is they don’t take debit/credit cards. I won’t be back.

The food is your average divey breakfast joint. It gets the job done with no frills. Cash only, friendly staff, dog friendly patio. Don’t expect quality, but do expect quick service and hearty portions.
