The handled a group of 40 coming a funeral service with no problem. The staff was friendly and attentive the food was good. Next time I’m the area I, will be back for lunch or dinner.

Terrible service. Manager with a serious attitude problem. Heard her call guests ‘asxholes.’ Very unprofessional. Go across the street. Much better hospitality.

Poor service. Walked in around 1:30 pm, asked for a table outside for quick drinks, told we couldn’t sit at the water. We pointed out the empty deck and was told it would be busy later. Thanks the manager for her hospitality and while walking to the bar she called us assholes. Unbelievable. So much for coming back to our hometown and made to feel welcome! We left and went across the street to Mike’s Point and all is good!

Have been coming here for years. I can honestly say that the food, the service, quality and atmosphere is the BEST it has ever been. It was never bad, but they have improved SO much that I had to say something. Come back to Port of Call and see for yourself. If you around on a Sunday come hear Music by Maggie from 5−7pm, simply the best! Hats off to Frank Guido and his amazing hard working staff. This summer we celebrated a birthday with a table of 20. We sat upstairs which we had to prearrange. We had one waiter and one bus boy who worked together amazingly. Those two alone handled our table and drink orders like there were 4 of each for our table! The food was great, the orders were correct and I have never seen two people work so hard and still have a smile on their faces.

I would rate Port of Call between a 2.5 stars and 3 stars. As other reviewers have stated, the view is the reason to go to Port of Call. The outdoor patio is very relaxing on a warm summer night. As for the food, it seemed to be a mix of good and mediocre. The pot of easy peel shrimp were perfectly fine and so was the fried calamari. For dinner, we were disappointed that the only whole lobster options available on our visit were two pounds and over and $ 40+. To keep the price down and still get a lobster fix I opted for the ½ lobster, scallops, and breaded clams with linguini. The lobster was overcooked and two other people in my party who ordered the same dish said there was a bit of sand in their clams. I also found the linguini to be extremely buttery to excess. I’d say go if you really want to dine outdoors on a nice night, but don’t expect it to be cheap.

My visit to Port of Call began on Tuesday night. My birthday was on Tuesday and they offer a free entrée(up to $ 20) on your birthday. So I was very disappointed when I arrived with the family and found they were closed due to emergency kitchen repairs. There was a sign on the door saying they would honor the free dinner at one of their other locations, however, I did not feel it was worth the $ 12 in gas to get there and back. We decided to try again on Wednesday. Wednesday was my wife’s birthday so were hoping to get both of our entrees complimentary. On Wednesday I called and spoke to the manager, Annmarie. Annmarie knows good customer service and how to accommodate customers; she happily agreed to honor my birthday dinner that night. When we arrived we noticed the premises was clean and well maintained. Both the exterior and interior looked great. Very nice atmosphere. We were greeted by the bartender and seated by our server, Jen, very promptly. Jen is an excellent server and provided us with outstanding service. We had our 9 and 10 year old children with us and Jen engaged them in conversation and made them feel welcome. The food was okay. 3 of us had salmon. It was overcooked but edible. The rice pilaf was good… they didn’t try to overdress it with spice and they gave you a large portion of it. My son had chicken fingers and fries and they were as you would expect for chicken fingers. My wife had a cocktail special… a frozen daiquiri of some sort. It was average… I will mention it again later. A very nice surprise was that in addition to our 2 complimentary birthday entrees, they brought us birthday cupcakes in souvenir mugs. Totally unexpected and very much appreciated. It was a really nice special touch. Because our entrees were free and because everyone was so nice and accommodating, I hate to bring up the 2 negative points of the evening, but to keep this a fair review I really need to mention them. When the bill came we learned that the drink special cost $ 9. I could understand this price if it had been a martini or something made with fresh fruit, but it was made with rack liquor and pre-packaged daiquiri mix. If it had been reasonably priced we probably would get another the next time we visit. Because of how they priced it we would never order one again and would not recommend for others to order one. The other item on the bill that surprised us was $ 7.90 for 2 house salads. While taking our order, the server did not ask us if we wanted salad. She asked us what kind of dressing we wanted on our salad and listed the available dressings. Any reasonable person would assume the salad was included with the meal by the way it was presented to us. I feel bad even mentioning this, as our entrees were free, but it seemed like this was a sneaky sales tactic. We had the pleasure of meeting the manager, Annmarie, in person during our visit. She is a wonderful and pleasant person and made us feel welcome. Overall, Port of Call is what you would expect to find in Greene County. This place is by no means perfect, but really, nowadays in Greene County, what place is? They made up for the expected average food and sticker shock with excellent customer service, flexibility with their policies, and accommodation to our needs. You aren’t going to do much better anywhere else, and you certainly can do worse, so if you are in the area I recommend trying them.

Beautiful and relaxing. We stopped by here for lunch on a whim and were so pleased with everything. The staff were so kind and attentive and the food was great! Would recommend to anyone! And it was my bday so I got my entrée for free!

Our friends took us on their boat and we wanted to do waterfront dining so we choose Port of Call. The patio dining was beautiful and the service was excellent. I had a mixed seafood meal and substituted the rice for baked potato. The meal was huge and so delicious. I was so pleasantly surprised, it was so large, had so much seafood, two big pieces of tilapia, and a nice baked potato. Also the little rolls on the table were good too, I wound up making two little sandwiches with the tilapia and the bread, and they made a great lunch the next day. I am very surprised about the negative reviews of this restaurant, I’ve eaten a lot of seafood in my time, and this meal was delicious. It wasn’t cheap, but it was certainly reasonably priced for a delicious meal of waterfront dining. Great job POC.

Lovely setting on the patio by the water. Friendly wait staff. Had the best scallops I’ve had in a long time. Reasonable prices too. Will definitely go back.

(Two stars is an average restaurant, taking food and cost into consideration.) They have large portions, but the food is nothing special. The service is nothing special. The view is nice. I would rather search for where the Vietnamese Food Truck is.

I got married at the Catskill point a few weeks ago and we decided to hold the rehearsal dinner next door at Port of Call. The food was amazing– for appetizers we had calamari, flat bread pizza, salads, and then you could chose between 3 dishes for the entrée of stuffed filet of sole, chicken parm, and roast beef. The servers were incredibly attentive and kind. Their sister restaurant, Little Italy actually catered the wedding and did an amazing job as well. Also the location is absolutely amazing! Beautiful views all around. I can honestly say that I’m confused about the negative reviews because we had such a positive experience there.

My wife and I utilized the services of Port of Call for our rehearsal dinner for our wedding several weeks back and were immensely impressed by the staff and the quality of the food at Port of Call. We spent several days setting up prior to our wedding and had food from Port of Call everyday, as we were very busy preparing. My favorite was the fried calamari and chicken parm. Their staff would even walk the food over to us at the Historic Catskill Point so we could continue to decorate our wedding venue. We utilized them as well for our rehearsal dinner and they did a truly amazing job. We had roughly 40 guests and all of them were served and tended to with great care. The food was delicious and we received numerous compliments from our guests that we picked an amazing place to have our rehearsal dinner. Frank Guido and his staff were more than accommodating to us during our wedding experience. Their help really made the weekend that much more special and we were blow away by the amount of care from their staff and quality of the food we received. We wouldn’t have changed a thing from our whole experience and are very grateful that they were able to be a part of our wedding experience.

Come here for: a textbook example of how NOT to run a restaurant. _____________ Frank Guido must be an imaginary character, like Betty Crocker. There’s no way an actual living human being would put his name on this place. The unpleasantries start at the front door, where you’re greeted by a scowling blond hostess who seems like she’s auditioning for the role of prison guard on «Orange Is the New Black.» You give your name and your reservation time, and she responds. «You’ll have to wait until I have a server available.» Okay, how long are we talking about? «Could be 30 or 45 minutes.» You look around at all the empty tables, waiting in vain for an «I’m sorry» or maybe an explanation of how they could be so short-staffed on a weekend night despite your reservation. Instead the lovely prison guard says something like«You can’t wait here; there’s a bar upstairs,» and then she literally walks away. Upstairs you’re briefly encouraged by the perfect view of the Hudson and the totally deserted deck with 10 empty tables. Maybe things are looking up. You planned on a sit-down dinner but the bar menu looks adequate, so you ask the bartender if they’ll serve at the bar tables. Out of nowhere, the prison guard swoops in, insisting once again that they don’t have enough servers. They can feed us at the bar, but not the tables. Cool, how ’bout they bring our food to the bar, and we carry it over to the tables? Nope, those tables are for big groups. But we’re a group of seven … with a reservation. Surely that counts for something? Evidently not. Stuck at the bar, you drink your swill wine while your dishes come out one … by … one. There’s literally a 30 minute lag time between the first dish and the seventh. One of the orders is wrong, but there’s no way you’d send it back. At this point, you’re just glad the ordeal is almost over.

It seems like this restaurant has definitely learned from past reviews on here and made a few changes, as overall, this was a great dining experience. We had a group of 6 for lunch on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon, and sitting by the water with beers in hand and delicious, fresh seafood, it’s hard to think of anything to complain about. The food quality was high. We had Blue Point oysters, crab cakes, baked clams, calamari and buffalo wings and everything was delicious. The crab cakes were some of the best any of us had ever had. Our server was extremely attentive and a really nice guy. The hostess greeted us right away with a big smile and we were seated right away. It’s a great place to relax while soaking in the waterfront vibe, and a fun spot to spend a lazy afternoon in the summer. I’d recommend to anyone in the area!

Pros: location * location * location – it’s lovely on the river; friendly and efficient wait staff; light fare: steamed clams, crab cakes, caesar salad, cocktails, decent house wines, lobster dinners Cons: lack of seating strategy with so many open tables; overwhelmed bartender; lackluster main entrees paired with a bland rice pilaf; smokers in the outdoor waiting area

With some nice spring weather starting in Catskill, we decided to enjoy the weather near the water and eat here. For a Friday evening, the crowd was pretty decent. The bar was a little over half-full and we decided to have some drinks, apps, and possibly dinner. The atmosphere was quite nice although I never really enjoy shared popcorn. Also, the lottery machine slightly took away from the otherwise great atmosphere of the place. Our bartender, named Nuala(sp?), was very friendly and gave us a few good recommendations. My girlfriend and I decided to start with some wings and beer. Wings were ordered spicy but did not quite live up to expectations on the scoville scale. They were still quite good and cooked well. For dinner, we decided to go with the ‘Half Maine Lobster, Scallops & Clam Oreganato’ and Bistro Salad. This restaurant knocked it out of the park with these two entrees. My entrée(thankfully) came on more of a platter which was necessary for the lobster and had a perfect amount of roasted garlic that complemented all of the dish. Oh, and did I forget to mention that the scallops were NOT overcooked? I was quite pleased. My girlfriend enjoyed her bistro salad; especially the sharp bleu cheese(and I did share some of my entrée as well). Overall, I think it was a great experience. One star knocked off mainly for lack of beer selection. Outside the normal Bud, Coors, Miller, Heinekin, and Corona beers; selection was limited to Stella, Shocktop and Red Hook IPA(local brew). Expanding the beer offerings I think could greatly increase my desire to go for a bar/appetizer trip during the week. That being said, sitting in the dining room or outside for dinner provides a much better atmosphere for the entrees/price level. Likely to go again for a nice dinner outside and possibly a weekday bar visit(provided we add some more beers).

This restaurant has a very nice view and on a day when the weather is nice – it’s an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon on the patio. The calamari appetizer was perfectly cooked – not overcooked – not under-cooked, they hit it right on the mark and the sauce is nice. The stuffed clams were also a favorite. They have a decent burger. The breading on the softshell crab sandwich special was a little too heavy for me, but overall this sandwich is a good choice. We thought the service was pretty good.

After being seated we waited 10 minutes before we were offered a beverage. There were 3 waitresses and a manager on and only a few other tables. Ordered my burger MR it came out WD with undercooked fries. My girlfriend ordered a Caesar Salad it arrived with pail limp romaine, drowning in dressing. Yet another riverfront disappointment!
