I’ve had my kids in several different swim lessons and they are very hit or miss. The teachers may be tecnhically capable, but are not trained in effective teaching methods for kids. After going through several series of classes, and various instructors, my 9 y/o is still not safe in the water alone. My youngest(4 yr old) was caught under the water on several occasions during his lesson and it was the lifeguard across the pool that took action. One of the parents told me that she saw a parent jump in(clothes and all) to assist their preschooler during a lesson. There is a definite safety risk in lessons(especially for the preschool age group).

We go twice a month or so and swim, no complaints, water is always warm for my toddler, lots of fun things to do at pool: zero depth, fountains, slides. Also has family locker rooms and they are nice. So far so good, we like it

The desk staff here is helpful and friendly, but the aquatics program is plagued by management that is irritatingly poor. The swimming teachers are a mixed bag; we’ve been lucky to have one of the best in the group for quite a few of the lesson sequences in which one of our children have participated. There are others who are impatient and scary to kids because they yell. The swimming teachers are probably technically knowledgeable about swimming and how to teach the techniques of it, but only some of them seem to know much about how to effectively communicate to elementary-age children. The aquatics director does nothing to tell parents where to take children for their first lesson, or any lesson after that in the sequence of four. You don’t get an email or a mailed letter or a phone call and there is no map or poster or announcement stuck to the walls in the pool area to tell you where the kids in each swimming instructional level group are to meet for that first lesson in the sequence. So, when you come for the first lesson you wander around confused, wondering which teacher is to work with your child. Then there’s the crowding. Castle Rock has charged such a tiny property tax($ 40 on a $ 300K home each year) for so long that many civic needs are neglected and the Recreation Center is an obvious example of that. Maintenance at the town recreation center is not up to par. There is visible rust in the building and on the structures in the«kiddie pool» area, the concrete decks around both that pool and the adult pool show clear signs of wear, and there simply is not enough physical space in the pool area, or indeed in any other part of the 25-year old building, to accommodate the huge growth in the number of town residents that use the facility. That goes for parking, too. It is a major challenge on weekday evenings and Saturdays. The recreation center’s other problem is its website. It is hard to navigate and, to put it mildly, disorganized. It appears to be a situation where the town has had some employee just throw it together when a webmaster is probably needed. One might conclude, though, that it is typical of Castle Rock — whether you are talking road maintenance or the recreation center, economic development or openness of records and decisionmaking, there is a noticeable level of incompetence and inattentiveness.

I have never been treated so rude in my life! Got there to watch my 10 year old nephew play a volleyball game. Just after arriving, took a second to figure out where to go(you know, males can’t ask) went to go down stairs to watch his game. The attendant behind the counter says as we walk away«can I help you?» my wife says«no thanks, we are here to watch the volleyball game» he then gives us the riot act about needing to check in. Now there is no sign or anything that tells one that you need to check in, when I pointed that out he said«well its common courtesy». Yea, why don’t you try some courtesy buddy!

Great place for kids! My son has taken several sessions of swim lessons here and the teachers are great. This place is always kept clean and served its purpose as the perfect 1st birthday party location!

Great modern and current facility. You can see all ages here– 6 yr old swimmers, teen softball players, and the«silver sneakers» getting their walk on around the track. I’ve been going religiously for the past three months in an attempt to get«Kelly Ripa arms» for my May wedding and have become a frequenter to the fitness classes. Zumba is a good time, but Body Pump is where the real work comes in. Jennifer is a PHENOMENAL instructor and never ceases to encourage me to finish that last rep– I just wish she was there more often!
