I love this place! I’m love a good sandwich with fresh meats. the grilled chicken is my fav! It’s my new go to place the customer service is ok. a little more personality would be great for such a great small and personal shop! But we all have bad days so hopefully tomorrow I’ll get greeted as I walk through the door!

This place was horrible and their service was extremely unprofessional. I went into get a sandwich and while waiting in line I witnessed a cashier cuss out another customer go around the counter and threatened to kick their ass in front of the whole store. The manager did nothing and didn’t even apologize to the customer. I am completely disgusted with this behavior and I will never come back to this location.

The sandwiches here are the same great eats as the other Great Outdoors location. But why the two stars rating? Rude employees? Nope! Very nice and knowledgeable. Filthy environs? Nope again! Very clean and organized. Gouging prices? Nope. Although on the more $$$ side of subs, the quality makes up for it. So what’s up then? This shop is MOFOKING slow! Oh My lawd! Deliberate doesn’t begin to describe the pace here. Just pray no one in front of you orders a milkshake. It does not matter what time I come in here, slooooooow. So there is my take. Take it or leave it. ;)

My fiancé and I just decided to try this place out for the first time and it was a-mazing! I had a number one with double meat and cheese, and I almost couldn’t finish it. The meat and cheeses are sliced right in front of you, so it’s really fresh, and the taste really reflects that. I can’t wait to go here again and try something else.

What does one picture when one thinks of «The Great Outdoors?» A pro shop, a fishing supply company, or a sporting goods store? None. None of the above. It’s a sub shop. And, contrary to what I originally thought, the sandwiches here are actually good! I walk in with no idea of their offerings. The guy behind the counter asks me for specifics as far as what I like. I end up with a ham and cheese(plus a lot of other stuff) on toasted wheat bread. It was outstanding! The meats and cheeses are freshly sliced on the spot, which is definitely a plus. I’ll say for a bonus that I also had a milkshake. A blueberry milkshake… it’s real ice cream, milk, and fruit… not many places do FRESH and REAL ingredients anymore! I’m impressed to say the least. The service was amazing, the sandwich was one of the best subs I’ve had in a very very long time, and the whole experience left me feeling better when I left than when I walked in the door. Minus one star? The name… but I’ll get over it and tack that star on at a later date. Go try this place out.

Great and healthy subs for a great price and great customer service, what else could you ask for in a sub diet friendly type of deal? I would highly recommend the Turkey pastrami with the works and if you like ranch of course I would add that unto the sub!!! Take a risk and try out this place for your liking or not!!! Oh and also try their chips they have this dill chips which is good!

The service was excellent. The cashier was very helpful as we were trying to determine which discount plan would be better, earning $ 5 or a free sandwich. I ordered the croissant club and it was huge. The bread was fresh and you can select the veggies that you want. If you are watching your calorie intake I would recommend just ordering a sandwich. The broccoli cheese soup was not that good. They keep it in a refridgerator then warm it up in the microwave when it is ordered. There is plenty of seating.

The only reason I keep coming here is because I love Great Outdoors Subs. The bread is always fresh and the meats and cheeses are yummy. The shakes are also very tasty. The food itself would get 4 stars. The problem with this place is the service. I typically come here in the evening when its not as busy. The staff has plenty of time to be polite and friendly. They rarely are. I used to think maybe it was the group that usually works at night because its the end of the day and they are ready to go home. That is until today when I had the same experience with the General Manager, West I believe is his name. Without even looking or smiling at me he asks«What can I get you». I respond. Still not looking at me he says” What bread do you want”. Would a «Hi, welcome to Great Outdoors. What can I get for you? We have white, wheat, or rye bread. Which would you like» and a smile kill you? Next the guy who dresses the sandwiches barks at me «Works?» like he had done to the two previous customers. I think you get my point. The staff is not welcoming or friendly for the most part. I usually feel like I am getting on their nerves. Its pretty sad when the GM is just as unwelcoming as the rest of the staff.

Really it’s 3.5 stars. The sandwiches are fresh and made to order; they keep things simple instead of masking low quality ingredients with a bunch of sauces(*cough Subway cough*) — so I’d give 4 stars for the food. BUT, the service is slow and the people are never very friendly. I understand they get really busy but still, it affects your experience when you have to repeat your order several times and they never bother to smile at you. There are a couple of people who are the exception though(so kudos to them!). Also, the combos are a bit overpriced. Nonetheless, I go here quite often when I want to grab a healthy lunch in the neighborhood — it beats the heck out of all the fast food chains up and down Midway.

I LOVE their food, period. Their sandwiches are amazing. I always get the vegetairan croissant and it will blow your mind. This last time I went, the service was HORRIBLE. I will never ever go back to this location again. The food is very worth going to this company, but this location doesn’t deserve your service. Everything is really fresh and they slice the meats and cheese in front of you, like an actual deli. The breads are always good and it’s just.. . GREAT here.

I’ve gotta say… with the hot hot heat of Texas summer bearing down on us, I’ve been to this Great Outdoors a number of times in the past few weeks to get a delicious milkshake. I order a «Black and white» which is a chocolate milkshake made with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce(rather than chocolate ice cream– which I’ve never liked in my shakes). And it’s amazing. The texture hasn’t been 100% uniform with every visit, but it’s always been good. Sometimes it’s been thicker than others(I usually like a thick shake), but the ice cream is so delicious, I really don’t care. Also, the last time I was there I walked in 2 minutes before close. Before ordering, I checked with the guy behind the counter that it was okay if I got a milkshake this late. He said, «Of Course!!» and proceeded to make the last customer of the day a delicious black and white milkshake. Damn. Now I want a milkshake… Their sandwiches are, as always, delicious. The employees at this location are always super awesome and nice.

I have a friend who is exclusive to Great Outdoors for subs, so I decided to check it out. It wasn’t busy when I came in around 2pm, they asked to help me and I requested a minute or two. The lady asked if it was my first visit and if I had any questions. I requested turkey and bacon, so she suggested the Club sandwich, and I went with it(on wheat, rather than a buttery croissant, which I would actually prefer). The woman who waited on me was not wearing gloves, which is odd, but the guy who put the veggies on was wearing gloves. I asked for it toasted and she said they only toast the bread, but she could put it in the microwave. Ok, every sub shop has a toaster oven these days, get one! Anyway, I also got a pickle, which was delicious. The presentation wasn’t beautiful, and the price was a little high, but the sandwich tasted pretty good. One thing that I did like was that every employee was working. Even though there weren’t customers to help, one girl was wiping down tables, the guy was cleaning up the veggie area and the woman was helping me. I don’t know why, but it bothers me when I see staff just hanging around doing nothing. There’s always something that can be done. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean and nice. The menu had all sorts of different salads and sandwiches, plus shakes and other items. It has more to offer than your average Subway, but I don’t know if it’s worth the few extra bucks.

A pretty good sandwich shop. Service is always very friendly. They have a lot of options. I have had four or five of them, and all were pretty good. I was caught inside this place one time during a downpour so I decided to have a chocolate milkshake. it was really good, and I they comped it just to be nice I suppose. It’s not as good as Jimmy John’s, or Jersey Mike’s in my opinion.

I grew up in Dallas and have traveled to other cities, but this is still my favorite sub shop. I’ll let you know my secret sandwich. I get a #12, The Outdoorsman, which is loaded with tons of meat. Then I have it warmed up with jalepenos and spicy mustard. To give it a little extra kick, I get it with the works which includes oil, vinegar and some other ingredients. Finally, I put Cheetohs on it. That is sub perfection. If you are not into my sandwich you will still love that they have shredded lettuce on all of there sandwich and salads. You’ll find great subs and The Great Outdoors.

Service — 3 Stars — Friendly Counter Staff Food — 4 Stars Large Menu — 3 Stars We found this sandwich shop in an almost hidden northwest corner of Midway and Trinity Mills shopping strip. Very large menu selection from breakfast offerings to ice cream and a lot of sandwiches in between. I opted for the Chicken Salad on Croissant and my wife went with the BLT on Croissant. We both loved the very large croissants which we were told were baked fresh on the premises. The toasted croissant made a great BLT! I was fairly pleased with my Chicken Salad, although it was a little light on the celery for my taste. Exceptionally friendly service from the small staff. We would certainly return when in the neighborhood.
