Went there yesterday and they are out of business. Wished I could have tried them out.

Came here on a groupon. VERY impressed with this place, especially for being a little«mom and pop» kind of place. Southern cuisine was great. I had the chicken pot pie and my fiancé had the cornbread club. Both delicious, as was the farmers soup– something I’ve never had before. Kitt, I’m guessing, was at the front and was very friendly and warm. She gave us the whole run down and was very patient. Sugar free pie didnt taste sugar free– it was that good!

Underwhelmed. Food was okay but overpriced for what it was. Takeout service was very slow. I try to support our local businesses, but once was enough for me here.

I kick myself for not coming up with this idea. It’s so simple!!! Who would ever thought of cornbread sandwiches? pure genius I tell you!!! Came in a Saturday with a friend. He ordered the Texan, jalapeño cornbread with chili sandwich. It comes with a bag of chips. I think they should offer fries instead of chips. I had a chicken pot pie and a cherry pie. I cannot go anywhere that offers cherry pies and not order a slice. I LOVECHERRYPIES! It’s my favorite! My chicken pot pie was good but the veggies tasted pre-frozen. The bread was cornbread. It was thick. I wish I got the Texan but no worries, I will be back next time to get a Texan.

Underwhelming at best. The food was okay but the service was terrible. It says there is waiter service but it is an order at the counter place. The corn bread was great but I could do without American cheese on the club.

As a serious eater(I would not call myself gourmand) I tried to find a reason not to max out this place with five stars. But I simply could not. Not one reason. Even the young lady who took and delivered my order was awesome. But people go for the food. I had the classic ham on jalapeño cornbread and cherry pie. Flawless. Now there will be those who I might take there or who go there and say such stupid things as «well the cornbread is good but not like my mom’s grandmother’s, aunt etc. To those I say get over it. The cornbread by itself was wonderful. The pie? Well i took the easy way on that and chose my favorite, cherry. To that I give it my ultimate compliment: «It was so good I just wanted to rub it in my hair». Seriously, it was wonderful. Will return time and time again. worth the drive if you live closer than say… Chicago or something.

I’ve now eat here 3 times and feel comfortable I can truly rate them outstanding. I’ve since learned that this is a 2nd location of a rather well loved restaurant on the square in Jefferson, TX. Everyone should visit that area of east texas. Caddo lake is perhaps the most beautiful lake in Texas(serious, google images it). But — I digress. This is a good old fashioned kind of place. They have about 15 things on the menu and they’re all great. They don’t try to be complex — just cook what you’re good at and serve it to people. The popular item seems to be the cornbread sandwiches. Yes, you read that right and they are great. Their cornbread has a hearty consistency which holds together and makes for a good sandwich. They’re around $ 6 – 7, add a buck for a cup of soup. Last time my family came with me and we also samples several soups and a salad. All were great; we had the poppyseed/strawberry/walnut salad. Chicken and Dumplings like your mom used to make. Shepard’s Pie and Chicken Pot Pie were good as well. Note, the Chicken Pot Pie is made with cornbread in case you didn’t guess. All of their pies are homemade and I haven’t had a bad one. Over the tips with different people, I’d tried the pecan, buttermilk coconut, key lime, and even the sugar free chocolate. All were great, I’d say the standout is the key lime, but my wife would disagree and would suggest the buttermilk coconut. Ample parking, very cute/strange décor, counter service(but with great service), available of grubhub for takeout.

Frito pie is mostly Fritos. Very little chili in the bowl and tasted like Wolf Brand Chili from a can. Cornbread is dry and served cold. Pies look store bought. Not freshly made. Not what I expected nor would go back for.

This place is awesome! My boyfriend and I decided to try it out for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Sadly we were the only ones in there! I get the feeling that most people don’t know this place serves breakfast and lunch — they see ‘Pies’ in the name and think it’s just a pie shop. I’m glad we tried it because their breakfast cornbread sandwiches are DELICIOUS. We both got the bacon/egg/cheese sandwich on jalapeño bread(of course) and it was scrumptious. Combine that with their raisin rum bread pudding & orange rise(creamsicle?) drink, and I was happily in a food coma afterwards, which eventually made for a nice Sunday afternoon nap. Needless to say we’ll be coming back. Anyway, give this place a visit & spread the word! It’s delish!

All 3 varieties of cornbread are delicious and hold up well in a sandwich. You really can’t go wrong with The Sicilian or the Redneck. The rich Cajun infused Stewp was hearty and flavorful and, in my opinion, beats out the Chicken and Dumplings for sandwich alternatives here. All of the pies we’ve had so far have been top notch. The double chocolate cream pie was outstanding. The coconut buttermilk exceeded expectations with a dense texture and a pervading hint of allspice or nutmeg. The apple pie was flaky, juicy and flavorful.

It was okay. Just a regular sandwich but with cornbread. I gave it a 3 for being unique in that way. The broccoli salad was good. It was worth trying out once, but I probably won’t go back.

Absolutely, Awesome. I had the #3 Combo, with Ham & Cheese on Jalapeño Cornbread, Broccoli Salad and Chicken and Dumplings. YUM! Opps… I also had Apple Pie. My girlfriend had the BLT and Broccoli Salad and… the sugar-free chocolate pie and she thought it was all very yummy. We also shared a little with our friend and she wanted to know where to go get some. I had been to the shop in Jefferson, and was delighted it still has the charm and it was just as good. We will be back!

We were split as a family on total number of stars. 4.4−5. My son says the«frito pie was amazing. It was moist and not too spicy.». He also really like the double chocolate pie. He said the cream of the chocolate and the whip cream went well together. The crust was crunchy. I had the vegetarian cornbread sandwich, and it was full of flavor. Just the right amount of onion. My husband didn’t know a club sandwich could be so decadent, but the cornbread really elevated it to a new level. He liked the apple pie ala mode, but he wanted the pie to be warmer. My sister had the chicken and dumplings, and she said the bowl portion was a generous meal. She and I shared the lemon pie, and it was also a generous portion. Great unique place for Carrollton. Go support them so we keep independent businesses in Carrollton.

Took my family of four to Kitts this weekend and the result: very pleased. This is the old«Escape Coffee» place and the funny, often confusing thing, for 1st timers is that the Kitts Crew left the place untouched. So the Escape’s Medieval/Coffee Bean Art/Famous Composers Busts are all still there. The décor makes no sense for cornbread connoisseurs but I have a feeling once they get off the ground, they will maybe redesign the interior. The broccoli cornbread melts in your mouth. Just stunning. And I’m not a lemon fan, but my wife’s lemon ice box pie was ridiculous! So good. We all had sandwiches(4) and shared 2 slices of pie. The ticket with 2 sodas was close to $ 45. Not super cheap but the food is truly delicious. The portions are small too so be ready for that, but since Texas ranks high with obesity, it’s probably a good thing. The staff was very nice, very friendly. We will definitely be back.

The cornbread is delicious. Amazing how it holds up in a sandwich. Items are priced under $ 10 but I would still say it’s a little pricey for what you get. I ordered combo #1 which is a sandwich and a cup of the broccoli salad. The broccoli salad is a slaw type salad with chopped broccoli, carrots, red cabbage, golden raisins, and sunflower seeds tossed in a homemade dressing. The club was good the corbread was the best part, it was a little unusual to have mayo on cornbread. The broccoli salad was delicious very light and flavorful, I loved the golden raisins. Besides the cornbread sandwiches they also have chopped and Asian salads, soup, stew and Frito pie. I didn’t try the desserts yet, next time I’ll get some pie they all looked great! Several different varieties including two that are no sugar added. The inside dinning area is pretty small and the tables are tiny. There are also tables outside but no shade or cover. It’s a bit confusing when you first enter, looks like you would go up to the counter to order however we were greeted shortly after entering and given a table and menus so it’s waiter type service. All the staff was very friendly and happy to give us the overview being it was our first time. The manager walked around to each table checking on everyone. They recently extended their hours which is how I finally got the chance go try this place out. I’ll definitely be back and will be getting some pie next time.

Quite surprised that the cornbread was light and good. Had the Redneck, fried bologna and cheese. Light on the meat, which maybe is why it held together so well. But the Key Lime pie… no, no, no. Tasted like bottled lime juice and nothing more. Chicken and dumplings were quite tasty. I’d definitely go back and try a different sandwich and pie.

We decided to give this place a try, since it seemed to be the only non-chain restaurant in the plaza. We’re huge fans of cornbread(«Can I have your cornbread?» comes out of my mouth quite often), so we were very happy to try out a place that makes cornbread sandwiches. First impressions: The place is a mishmash of décor. I’m not quite sure what to call it, but it made me think«kitschy.» Busts of random historical figures line the wall. Several murals line the walls(some sparkling with glitter while others decorated with… beans?). The counter area looks like it’s supposed to resemble a European kitchen. There is a little fountain off to the side, and hanging above it are modern style lights. Strange. But then again, your eyes will never be bored here. Really. Service: Sabrina helped us out. She was straight and direct. We appreciate that. The food: I ordered the Texan on jalapeño corn bread, which is the sandwich filled with chili and cheese. Since I ordered it «all the way,» I also got mustard and onions added to the sammie. It was yummy. Very tasty. I would have liked more cheese, so I’ll probably ask for extra cheese next time. Though more chili would have made me verrry happy, I think they put in just the right amount to avoid making a mushy mess out of the cornbread. G ordered the Sicilian, which has got pastrami and provolone cheese. The man loves his cured meats. Anyway, he liked the sandwich enough to want to come back, so that’s a good sign! YAY for Kitt! An Added note: We’re used to dry, crumbly cornbread, but the kind Kitt’s uses is moist and less crumbly. Though I prefer my cornbread dry and crumbly, I’m sure they altered their recipe so you could actually hold and eat the sandwich and not have it fall apart in your hands — kudos to making my lunch a less messy experience than it usually is! Next time, we’ll have some pie and Blue Bell ice cream to go with our meal.

Absolutely loved this place. Had a club sandwich on Jalapeño Cornbread with a side of Stewp. My wife had the Irish which is a corned beef sandwich and she loved it as well. Not sure how to make cornbread that holds together as a sandwich but they have it down. Buttermilk coconut pie was unreal. Super friendly staff.

Yum! I’ve only been to Kitt’s once as their lunch only hours(at this time) don’t give me much opportunity to get over there(and they just opened last week), but I’m sure I’ll be back. First off — They serve their sandwiches on cornbread(as the name states) — but its not crumbly like most cornbreads I’ve had — it actually stays together so you can eat it like a sandwich. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this, but it was pretty tasty! I ordered the Sicilian(pastrami and provolone) with the chicken and dumplings soup. Hubs ordered the redneck(fried bologna and American cheese) with Frito pie and the broccoli salad. They offer regular, jalapeño or broccoli cornbread, but we both opted for the regular. The food was delicious. My chicken and dumpling soup was fantastic — I’d of liked it to be a little hotter(it was warm, but just barely — they did mention it was a fresh pot of soup so maybe it just hadn’t gotten as hot as it normally would be), but the flavor was great. My sandwich was really tasty as well — not a huge sandwich, but I certainly didn’t leave hungry. I did order my sandwich with mustard and it came w mustard and mayo, but it didn’t bother me. Hubs Frito pie was really hearty and had good flavor as well. His sandwich was tasty as well, but he ordered«all the way» and they forgot his onion and tomato so I think they might be working out the kinks when it comes to getting the«special» orders just right but they did JUST open this week so I’m letting it slide. I’m also sure if we had mentioned the mix ups they would have resolved and apologized, but they weren’t a big enough deal to bother for us. I finished with a slice of coconut buttermilk pie and it was good — really really sweet. They have a display case with all the pies in it and there were so many that looked good I’m sure I’ll try a different one next time. Give it a shot! It’s something different than your standard sandwich place.
