I really wanted to like this place, because we love doing hibachi, but after trying Hino Oishi, I have to say that Kazan on 86th St.(not too far away) is still our favorite hibachi restaurant in the Indy area(better than Benihana, too). I like the interior of Hino Oishi. Very nicely decorated, and clean and modern feeling. Service was friendly. We had the typical hibachi fare(e.g. hibachi chicken). I didn’t think the fried rice was that great, or the chicken, or the soup. Every item I ate, I kept thinking, «This isn’t as good as Kazan’s.» Kazan is older inside and the carpets could use a deep cleaning, but we do like the food better there.

Been here many times, the hibachi and the sushi are definitely worth checking out. The hibachi chefs are always super friendly, very skilled, and entertaining. The sushi may just be the best this side of town. We’ll definitely be back!

Definitely not authentic Japanese, but otherwise, pretty decent. My husband and I got some nigiri sushi and maki, vegetable and tofu yakiudon for our main meal, and fried ice cream for dessert. The sushi and maki were pretty good, with the exception of tuna, which was not fresh at all. It had that old fish taste, and wasn’t sushi grade. The other fish were fresh. The yakiudon was definitely not Japanese. The type of tofu and some of the vegetables in the dish can’t be found in Japanese cuisine. I would say the yakiudon was in the right spirit, but with different ingredients. As for the fried ice cream, we were pretty disappointed. We should have known that it wouldn’t be good when they told us they don’t have green tea fried ice cream. Also, for good fried ice cream, the inside has to be extremely frozen, while the outside is extremely hot. Instead, the outside was cold as well, and the color was too light, as if they forgot to refry it before serving it to us. That’s not cool.

I would like to think Jason Lin for contacting me and inviting me back to give this restaurant another chance. I guess he proved that anyplace can have a bad day and sometimes mistakes are made. Our service and food were EXCELLENT this visit. The service was fantastic and manager JD made sure that everything was to our liking. It was a great experience and now, I will certainly be back.

I love this place!!! Its like a cheap version of Benihana’s with more selections. We ate here on Sunday afternoon during lunch time to redeem our groupon. It looks about the just about started to open so there were a few families there. They had the left side has the grill hibachi side and the right side as the booths. We opt for the booth because the hibachi looked like it would be for funner with a group, being just my bf and I we felt we didnt need it. We were seated right away and were given a few menus. I made sure to ask what my groupon was good for since I saw some complaints there were not able to use it because it was too cheap. All she took away was the lunch special menu but I was still able to get there other specials in the actual menu. They had so many different selections it was a bit overwhelming. Service was fast and food came all at once. We ordered the hot rok lettuce appetizer. Seriously! i recommend this to everyone. It came sizzling hot of the beef and had a varieties of veggies and sauces. It was fun to eat and one of the best things on there menu. For our entrée I did the 2 for $ 11 sushi lunch special and my boyfriend got a rib eye rice. For the lunch price this was a great deal. Good size portion and I was already full from my soup and salad that came with our entrees. I needed to ordered one more thing to meet my groupon deal and ordered a chicken bento to go. For everything we got it was a great deal. I would definitely come back here again and opt to the hibachi side next. If you want to not pay so much and get the full experience with a fraction of the cost, go during lunch. And its probably better that way to beat the crowd. As soon as we left I noticed business was starting to pick up, good thing we probably missed the rush. Overall wonderful place!

Hino Oishi does a few things really well, and a few things not quite as well as their competitors. Their prices are lower than other places and the portions are just as big — if not bigger. We ordered my 3 year old the Agedashi Tofu, which most other places will give you about 6 pieces. Hino Oishi nearly tripled the norm. The soup, salad and veggies were how we expected — very tasty. They gave a large amount of shrimp with our combos. Now for the not so great. The sauces are my biggest complaint. Other places generally give you three(mustard, ginger and yum yum). Hino Oishi’s gave a ginger and a yum yum — and both were runny and not as flavorful as I prefer. On the other side of the coin, the teriyaki on the chicken was really strong and somewhat overpowering. The service was excellent. They were very attentive to our beverages, got our orders completely correct and cooked it to our liking. The chef also accommodated our small children and made the cooking show interactive for us. He also warned us when the«fire» was coming to prepare my kids. Overall, we had a great time.

We went here on a Friday night to use a groupon. We arrived around 7p and the place was slammed, mostly with families there for Hibachi. We waited(along with the couple that arrive right before us) for about five minutes before being greeted by hostess. Seeing the wait for hibachi we opted for the sushi/noodle side and were seated. We waited about five minutes for water, our server then took our drink order(beer and sangria), it took about seven minutes for drinks to arrive. We then ordered a starter(bbq octopus), and mains. I opted for a Korean style hot pot bowl and my SO ordered the beef udon noodle dish. Our soup/salad came out in a few minutes and both were very good. Our mains then arrived about 15 minutes later and the sever explained they were out of octopus. I was disappointed she had not found the time to let us know that since there was another app I was considering that I would have ordered. My hot pot dish was very good with crispy rice, flavorful beef and an egg that made the dish. My SO enjoyed her dish but the beef was very well done. Our sever returned with the check and made a token ask about dessert which we were interested in but declined based on the service, we instead went out for ice cream. Overall the food was a 4 and the service was a 1. I gave 3 stars for food and because I have been here before and service has been better. Will go back but probably not on Friday night.

Great place to grab some sushi! Beautiful décor that is very modern, clean and very pleasing. The servers are super nice and attentive. The sushi is made fresh and you can also enjoy a hibachi style food and service as well. They have tons of choices on the menu, so there is always something for everyone’s tastes.

The food wasn’t that great, and the service was pretty bad too. We did come on a busy Friday night; it seems like they couldn’t handle the volume. We waited a while to have our drink orders taken, then waited forever to order our food. Our waitress would give us a menu, come back 10 minutes later, give us some water, come back 10 minutes later, take our drink order, come back 10 minutes later, give us our drinks, and then… left! She didn’t take our food order, and I am pregnant and starving and now, getting very irritated. Sadly the food didn’t make up for it. My husband got a noodle soup type dish, it tasted odd and bland. I got a rish dish, it was bland and boring. It’s too bad our experience was negative because it is close and the atmosphere was enjoyable.

Had a great time. Did mess up our nephews order, but gave us a gift card to make it right. Always a great meal, show and company!

Not only is it good, I credit it with really opening up my kids to new food and new experiences. Not just the teppanyaki, which is really good, but the atmosphere encouraged my kids to try things like calamari and mushrooms, and the goodness of the food got them to actually like it. The sushi and tempura I’ve had has been good too, but really, everything has been awesome.

The Ambiance in here is great! The lighting at the bar is very modern. We ordered ramen and from the hibachi. The portions are very generous and delicious. Would Come back! They also have a nice array of drinks/beer.

My husband & I were excited to have a new restaurant pretty close to home when this place opened about a year ago. We’ve been a few times for the hibachi and have really enjoyed it. Excellent service & the full shebang you expect from a good hibachi meal. I’ve had both the veggie & chicken hibachis, but I honestly prefer the chicken to the selection of veggies they serve with the vegetarian option. Definitely a nice place to try when you’re out in West Carmel/Zville area!

I visited Hino Oishi this afternoon with some colleagues for lunch. It was much quieter than I expected. We were a table of six, so we took advantage of the opportunity to try a few of the appetizers. We kept it simple with the Gyoza, Vegetable Tempura with Shrimp, and Tuna Tataki. All were lovely, but nothing I found exceptional. No matter, we were there for the hibachi anyway. I opted for the Strip & Shrimp lunch special and sat back to enjoy the show. The special, of course, came with fried rice and a choice of soup or salad. I have to say, the salad was my favorite part of the meal! It was delicious. The rest of the meal wasn’t bad, per se, it just wasn’t great. I can think of at least two other hibachi restaurants I would prefer over Hino Oishi after this first experience. Not willing to give up, we tried the Tempura Banana dessert. I’d say it’s a notch above good. A fairly solid«very good», even. Bottom line, I’ll be back because I’m intrigued by other items on the menu, but I won’t be soothing my hibachi cravings here. So far Hino Oishi is a solid 3 stars for me, but I’ll keep an open mind in the future.

I had a miso soup and a chicken teriyaki rice bowl. It was SO yummy!!! I want to come back a lot! For desert I had a chocolate mochi filled with ice cream! It also had whipped cream on top. There were 5 little slots where the dessert was. In the middle there was little pieces of pineapple. The above review was by my 10-yo daughter who can’t wait to come back! I had the Bai Bento with salad, rice, teriyaki salmon, Imari sushi, gyoza, and California rolls — all for just $ 13!!! I’m pretty picky about teriyaki sauce as I don’t think anyone can beat my Japanese mom’s but this will give her a run for her money!

The Teppanyaki has been getting alot of shine here(and deserving so) so I wanted to focus on the sushi/menu items. After our first visit, I felt safe ordering almost anything from the menu. all of the sushi rolls we had were fantastic and the noodles were stellar. Actually thinking of going back tonight and taking my family.

Arrived at 630 on a Saturday night and had no problem getting a seat in the bar. We could have sat at a hibachi table, but chose not to. We sat at the bar and had fun. We ordered a gin juice and a glass of Pinot Grigio. Both were good. The customer service here is five stars. The salad and hibachi soup were very good, the ginger dressing exceptional. The hibachi soup was very flavorful. I ordered the chicken yakisoba, I would have given it five stars if there had been a better assortment of veggies. My daughter ordered oishi chicken with veggies. She really liked it. Next time she’ll order the fried rice instead if steamed rice. Both meals came with soup and salad. This restaurant is a nice addition to this area, that’s not a chain restaurant. Both our meals with drinks and tip came to $ 60. Definitely will come back with a group and eat at the hibachi tables.

Happy to see the new addition to the Carmel-Zionsville divide that is Michigan Road. The place is bursting with enthusiasm of a new kid on the block and the dining room is bursting with eager suburban families(escape to the sushi bar if looking for a more intimate setting). The traditional hibachi offering is handsomely supplemented with fresh seafood offerings(calamari steak, scallops, lobster and«succulent shrimp» that actually lives up to the claimed title). Herbal tea fans would appreciate Chrysanthemum tea(a bolder, earthier camomile-style tea that is kept warm through the night on top of a tea-light candle). Sake lovers should not miss buckwheat sake(chilled). Fried rice includes finely diced chicken that boosts flavor. Although standard for a hibachi grill, the menu is very well executed. The soup tastes intensely of shiitake mushrooms and freshly sautéed shallots. The sauces are distinct. Seafood does appear to match the«flown in daily» claims. Calamari steak is light and satisfying(the meaty vs. «curly and covered with suction cups» part of calamari). The staff nearly jump out of their skin to help and entertain. A server refilling drinks and clearing used dishes appeared from under my elbow about every 7.5 minutes. With a bit of practice, they will be able to answer questions about the menu and drink menu on the spot. The dining area is not large — 4 standard size and one large grill by my estimate. Filled in completely and had a waiting line by 6:30 on a Friday night(all those families ecstatic with an alternative to the Olive Garden that just opened across the street). I am sure we will find ourselves in that line in the months to come…
