I’ve never dealt with such rude people in my life — racist and ageist. wine is average at best — STAYAWAY.

I have traditionally not been a fan of reds, but Galante made a convert out of me! Warm and inviting, no pressure atmosphere. We purchased three bottles!

Reading the all 1-star reviews about Galante calmly reminds me that Unilocalers are generally a bunch of self righteous pretentious prima-donnas, myself included. With that out of the way, the tasting room is neatly tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Ocean Ave., affording us the ability to enjoy wine in peace. The wine selection at Galante is limited and while each time we visit, at least once or twice a year, only their red collection was available to sample even though our pourer(Jess) said they do offer whites but we happen to visit at the wrong time. Jack, what time of the year do you generally offer white? To be fair, Jack’s wife’s tasting room Dawn’s Dream Winery specializes in white wines and is few blocks away. Through the years, we’ve met and conversed with many pourers, chit chat with other wine enthusiasts local and traveling from afar and even had our photo taken with Jack in the tasting room. I believe Ian(the writer) was the very first pourer that served us whose name we remembered. Galante offers red varietals with a punch, i.e. bold, and if you like bold reds(which we do), then you’ve arrived at the right place. $ 10 wine tasting per person for a flight of 5 generous pours and if you end up purchasing a bottle or two, Galante waive one tasting fee. We ended up picking up a few bottles of the Double M varietal(though we fondly remember Kickass Cab) and finished all our bottles in less than a week :[. I think we’ll join their wine gang when we return in December. Don’t like local estate grown bold reds? Hop across the street to Vino Napoli where you can pay $ 15 for a flight of three 2 oz. pours of imported wine that you can readily purchase from the local BevMo at less than half the cost per bottle!

A nice selection of wines from this tasting room that is a part of the Carmel Wine Walk. The Blackjack Cabernet is the hero of the lot, but just a bit pricy at $ 55/bottle. The tasting room itself is fun, with a western ranch theme, true to the roots of the owners. They are tucked down a picturesque alley, and well worth the stop if you like big reds.

amazing wine! «Blackjack Pasture» was my favorite. Great full red. I am not a huge fan of whites but their«Wagon Wheel» Sauvignon Blanc is phenomenal. Not sugary which is why I’m not a huge fan of SB but definitely worth the try. Janet was an amazing host in telling us about each wine. Will definitely join the wine club when I move out to Cali!

IFYOUREADONLYONEREVIEWMAKEITTHISONE: My girlfriend and I were visiting the area on our last day of a weekend trip up the coast. We decided to consult Unilocal to find some good spots in the area for wine tasting. This was our second stop and at first everything seemed fine. We walked up to the bar and spoke with an middle aged woman with short brunette hair. We ordered a single wine tasting since we were going to visit other places that day and just wanted a taste. Upon hearing our order the woman replied with a negative tone, «only one?» After that her demeanor changed and she didn’t tend to us again until about ten minutes later, much after we finished our first wine. Each time after the next wine was finished we had to wait and request service. It was very clear from her and the other male bartender’s attitude that our patronage was not important since we only ordered one wine tasting. We were very disappointed with the attitude and service here, especially since the first wine tasting place we went to before this one(I won’t mention the name to avoid anyone thinking this review is bias) had such stellar customer service. There are too many other places to wine taste in the area for you to waste your time here. And in order to preempt the imminent response from Jack Galante,(I saw all his responses to negative reviews on here, trying to downplay or spin what people say when they share their negative experience) we came in with a positive open attitude and it was your staff’s poor service, that caused this review, and the wine was the worst tasting wine we had all day.

Loved the country music playing in the background. Small venue with a relaxed atmosphere. Worth the visit on the wine tour. The restrooms are very close-an added bonus! A small deli is a few feet away if you’re on a budget. ;)

Stop off to use a Groupon for a wine tasting. The selection of wine was great and Kameron the employee helping us was great. It is tucked away down a little path but a great find. The Malbec was the winner in our opinion. Walked away with a bottle of the Malbec and a bottle of the Rancho Galante. Small tasting room but very cozy for a small group. Love to hear the history behind the winery.

Thanks for your response. The woman employee did not come in half way through our tasting. She was there when we got there and there when we left.

Came here with my boyfriend using a group on deal they had. My boyfriend and I thought the wine was okay. I felt they all tasted the same and since they didn’t have anything sweet or a dessert port I wasn’t to big of a fan. They did though give us a card to go to this guys wife’s winery called Dawn’s Dream for 2 for 1 wine tasting which was cool.

A really welcoming spot! Kameron helped my friend and I during our wine tasting experience. He was very knowledgable about the winery and helped us with any questions or requests we had. He provided us with a good time and a charming smile. Will definitely be going back!

Such a cute tasting room. Cowboy themed style with country music playing. You can find this place going down a «Secret Garden» alley way. The Wagon Wheel White is delicious and the two ladies helping were so educated in helping us. Black Jack Pasture is what they are known for but I’ll be back for the Sav Blanc.

Galante was the last tasting room that we visited while in Carmel. We had first stopped by Dawn’s Dream Winery, and after hearing that Galante was the more masculine ‘brother’ to Dawn’s, my dad had wanted to give this place a try. Galante was a bit tricky to find. It’s nestled in a quaint little courtyard, past an art shop. The interior is rather neat and spacious, and it was fun to see the contrasts between Galante and Dawn’s in terms of décor. Unlike Dawn’s, this place unfortunately does not serve chocolate in little tub figurines(drat!); however, some of the wines are paired with chocolate. We ended up buying two bags of the chocolates, which were completely delicious — although my mom has since hoarded them somewhere and I haven’t seen them since. Tasting is $ 10. They emphasize heavily on the reds here, which I’m completely okay with ;).

We wondered in. Wine tasting is $ 10 for six pours. The have one white mostly reds. Run about $ 25 and higher a bottle. Staff was friendly and gave us an extra tasting of a wine not on the list. Tasting and bottles higher than we are used to but a nice experience.

We stumbled on Galante on accident, while exploring the charming labyrinth that is downtown Carmel. An intriguing stone and vine pathway between buildings led to a *angels sing* wine tasting room! I joked to my BF that it was like finding a hidden world in a video game. I like that this place isn’t the easiest spot to find, makes it even more special! The tasting room is cozy and charming(there is no better word to describe anything about Carmel), with a Western theme. A major photo opportunity rests in an AMAZING boot shaped chair, do not miss that chance. Bellying up to the tasting bar, tastes are $ 10 for around 8 options(and when I asked to revisit a couple wines before making my purchase, I was happily obliged), and they had no problem allowing two of us to share a tasting. Major focus on reds, full bodied and strong! My test of a great red wine when I sip it — does it make me want to eat a steak or a plate of pasta? Yes? Sold! The tasting room wasn’t crowded so we were able to linger and explore the room between tastes, and a dish of free dark chocolate was delightful. Our taster even brought out some cheese and crackers to enhance the experience! Low pressure elegance is very appreciated. I finally decided on the Galante Cabernet, and I look forward to grilling up a steak to pair with it. My only letdown was that the tasting fee was not waived with purchase, I’ve gotten maybe a little too accustomed to that Central CA courtesy. Not expected of course, but it is always appreciated when received! Thanks for the sips and fun times Galante, I look forward to a return taste!

I took my bf here as part of his birthday outing. It is a small hidden tasting room in Carmel-by-the-Sea, but has a warm environment. There were other people already in the tasting room, so it got crowded pretty fast. The server didn’t converse much with us, which kind of dampened the experience for us. Didn’t learn too much about their wines… pretty much in and out of there within 30−40min. At least there was a dog there that helped to entertain us. As for the wines, they specialize more in reds(which I like). I didn’t like any of them enough to buy one, especially since they didn’t waive their tasting fee of $ 10 with a bottle purchase like most places do. There were a few that I did like(I don’t remember the names though), but didn’t like the price on them =P

In the heart of downtown Carmel, adjacent to the Blue Dog Gallery and one beautiful tranquil courtyard, is where you will find one of Carmel’s premier wineries. We enjoyed 6 delightful wines($ 10/flight), each rich in flavor and personality. All of Galante’s wines are estate born and embody the unique characteristics of the many regions throughout the sprawling estate. There is a large selection of red and white wines, ranging in price from $ 12 to upwards of $ 400. They have a nice selection of wines that are aged in oak barrels and stainless steel tanks which impart different characteristics to the wine and further adds to the wonderful wine diversity offered at Galante. Steve fully elucidated us on the rich history and lineage of this storied vineyard. The owner’s great grandfather was the founder of Carmel and a handful of Carmel establishments. Check out the black and white photos of downtown Carmel all throughout the tasting room. Pretty cool! The tasting room’s western, rustic theme really pays homage to the 700-acre Galante cattle ranch in Carmel Valley. Lots of wonderful wine accessories, clothing, gift baskets with a western flare. Great, relaxing atmosphere here as well, where the cheese and chocolates are served gratis. I thoroughly enjoyed coming into Galante. Here they are passionate about cultivating not only quality wines but cultivating quality relationships with their customers. Galante Ranch is available for tours, tutorials, events and gatherings by appointment.
