Dined in for lunch. Ordering was a breeze and the restaurant was busy but the food came out pretty quick. Went with the pulled pork lunch with 2 sides. I had the gumbo and the corn pudding. The gumbo was ok, a little too heavy on the rice but the corn pudding was excellent. The sauces were a little hit or miss. I ended up mixing a few and liked that combo — one was a little too sweet, one needed something, etc., but the combination worked out well.

Having lived in one of the barbecue capitals of the world(Kansas City, MO) has given me a unique perspective on good BBQ. There’s a pit on practically every corner in KCMO, and I’ve tried just about all of them. City Barbecue has a variety of options(my favorite being the sampler platters — so you can try a little of everything) and they are a great go-to place when you’re in the mood for moderately priced barbecue. Any of the pulled meats are wonderful(pork, chicken) and both their cornbread and Texas toast are amazing.(Dare I say, the Texas toast is actually better the second day!) They have a nice variety of sides, and every time we’ve dined in, it never takes very long to get your food. They have sauces for every taste, too. All in all, I am a fan of City Barbecue and keep it on a regular rotation of restaurants I like to visit.

I have to admit that despite City Barbeque being a chain restaurant, it is pretty darn good. You can get a fair serving of a pulled pork or chicken sandwich, along with your choice of two sides, all for around $ 10. What’s really great is the self service bar with your choice of three different bbq sauces(served warm), along with pickles, onions, or jalopenos to top your sandwich. And I’m not a tea drinker but people say they have the best sweet tea around. The sides are delicious, from hush puppies(yes, I said hush puppies…), to creamy mac n cheese, green beans with bacon, to the best fluffy corn casserole I’ve ever had. I’ve been known to switch up my sides but their corn casserole is one side that I just can’t seem to part with. Anytime I’m craving bbq, this place gets the job done.

Stopped in here based on reviews on Unilocal, ribs were not what I would expect… tough, hard, not what ribs should be… you want them to fall of the bone, far from what I expected, probably won’t go back, service was good but the food was disappointing

I took it as a bad sign that, when I placed my order over the phone and asked for coleslaw, they said that they were OUTOFCOLESLAW. WHAT. I wanted to remind them them that, hello, they were a barbecue restaurant — therefore, they were not allowed to run out of coleslaw.(Because barbecue and coleslaw go together like … whatever number of things that go together really well.) Holding in my righteous indignation, I sallied forth and ordered the sweet potato casserole instead. But gosh darn it if it isn’t true, City Barbecue won me over despite not having coleslaw the day I visited. First of all, they fry up your hush puppy order while you wait, so that they’re nice and crispy and hot. That’s just good customer service right there! That’s, like, a sign that they care about your dining experience. Also, their bacon green beans are amazing — easily the best things I’ve eaten in a while. Pretty much any vegetable is made better with the addition of bacon, but these are superior and worth ordering. Trust. And the barbecued meat. Dang. I got the pulled pork sandwich, which comes with barbecue sauce on the side, so you can add as much as you want. The meat is smoky and tender, shredded but with the occasional chunk of charred goodness. The bun was nothing special, but the sheer beauty of the meat made up for the bun’s mediocrity. Also in our order was the macaroni and cheese. It really appealed to the kids because the noodles were super soft and the seasoning was bland. I like my mac and cheese with a little more depth, so this particular dish wasn’t my favorite. I’d like to go back one day when they do indeed have coleslaw!

We actually went to City Barbeque for our 6-year wedding anniversary. We had planned a big night out in the city, but having gotten up at 5 in the morning for work, we didn’t have the energy and decided to stay local. You’ll end up having to wade through this part of my review, but for sentimental reasons I’ll share that when we were still dating, we used to make it a point to go to BBQ restaurants for our then«dating» anniversary. So this was a fun little throwback for us. We thought this restaurant would be a little more of a sit-down than it was(with servers and what not), but we were not deterred. We order our food and two beers when we arrived, paid for our meal, and took our seats. Our beers were delivered to us a short time later(local canned pounders seem to make up most of the beer selection that is in a locked mini-fridge under the cash registers). Our meal followed behind by a few minutes. Everything came out warm, but not super hot(as seems to be the case at a lot of BBQ restaurants). I had the pulled pork and ribs with sides of cornbread and mac and cheese. This was entirely too much food and I grew a nice little food baby in my belly by the end of the meal. The meal also came with a slice of Texas toast, so it kind of made the cornbread obsolete(thought cornbread was excellent, so I mostly left the toast behind except for a little bite). The mac was awesome as well. So were the meats. They had a selection of BBQ sauces available at each table that complemented the meal as well. If the meats were a little warmer, this meal would have been a five. I will probably go back if I want a quick and easy dinner without too many frills. City BBQ seems like a great place to go for dinner with a large group or with kids as I think it had a very easy-going atmosphere.

I have tasted everything on the menu at City Barbeque. I’ve not been as often as I would like(wouldn’t we all eat barbeque every day if we could?) but every time I have visited the Rangeline location, I have been thoroughly pleased. Prices are moderate for what you get. The lunch special of one main item and two sides is a very good deal. My husband and I have ordered the sampler platter($ 26) for half a rack of ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and a half chicken with two sides of your choice and cornbread and stuffed ourselves to the brim with leftovers available for lunch the next day. Sure, another meal could be a little cheaper, but the consistency of the food at City Barbeque is always so spot on. I just know that I’m going to enjoy my meal, and that makes me oh so happy. The macaroni and cheese is good but it is not my favorite mac and cheese of all time. The potatoes, green beans, cornbread, coleslaw and hush puppies are all great side options. If I had to pick two favorites, I’d go with green beans and mashed potatoes. Instead of table service, everything you need is available for you to get when you want and as much as you want. Your order comes out of the kitchen on a big serving platter that you can carry directly to your table. Each table setting has four sauces: mustard, sweet, spicy and original. All are worth experimenting with, but my favorites are the spicy barbeque sauce and the mustard sauce. Of the meats, brisket is my favorite. It’s smoky, slightly burnt and crusty where it should be, but tender and juicy at the same time. The pork is equally smoky but softer, melt-in-your-mouth good. The half chicken is great for those who don’t eat red meat, but I’ll save the room in my belly for the half rack of ribs. My husband was lucky he got any because I could have squirreled those away for myself. All in all, you won’t be disappointed with your visit to City Barbeque on Rangeline. Consider them the next time you have a craving for delicious barbeque!

Food is a five star, for sure. The smoked turkey and shredded chicken are my favorites. I like the brush fire sauce – has a bit of a kick to it. The cornbread is absolutely amazing. Mac and cheese, to me, is just OK. When my family comes to visit me from Evansville, they almost always want to get takeout from here. Here’s the problem for me. I always call and they’ll tell me 30 – 45 minutes or whatever. Then I get there after 45 minutes and they’ve not even started on my order. This has happened three times. Two times ago, they had to bake my cornbread on the spot and the last time(this weekend), they had to make my sister’s mac n cheese. It’s not something that will prevent me from going here – it’s just annoying. That’s the reason for the star dockage :)

I would eat here every day if it weren’t so far from my house. The cornbread pudding, I could eat for every meal from now until the end of time. Delicious barbecue, and lots of yummy sauces to choose from. Staff is polite and friendly, the food came out quick. This is a great place to drop in for lunch or dinner. I’ll be back, obviously. Many times I’m sure.

My first experience with City Barbeque was maybe a year ago when it first opened in Carmel. I got the sampler platter, and nothing really stood out to me as special. However, upon my arrival on my next visit I was greeted by the manager, who had me sample the pullled pork, brisket, and full cut brisket while he explained the differences. He then steered me towards the More Cowbell with the full cut brisket, and oh boy I’m sure glad he did. Texas toast, peppers, cheese, horseradish, and onions accompany the succulent full cut brisket on this sandwich. This is what differentiates City BBQ from the regular BBQ joints, and I will be coming back for another soon.

Love this place! We had never been there and the man at the counter gave us samples of everything to try! Pork was AMAZING. As was the Mac n cheese! Definitely try all the sauces, they’re on each table so anyone can have as much as possible. :)

$ 1.25 rib Tuesday is the best day to go. Limited on the«sides» menu. Obviously they’re cooking incredible amounts of ribs so the quality declines but they’re still delicious. Sometimes it seems like the cooking gets a tad lazy but majority of the time you’ll enjoy your meal. Definitely a great lunch spot.

I’m really surprised by a lot of the meh and negative reviews on here. City BBQ is a fave of mine and my friends. Yes, it’s a chain, but good food is good food, you know? I usually get the beef brisket or the pulled pork. Both are usually very tender and so flavorful. The smoke flavor really comes through. They have three different sauces I believe, original, sweet, and hot(Brushfire). All are really good! I enjoy the Brushfire, and it is the perfect amount of heat. I can’t eat a lot of the sides because they have onion in them and I’m allergic. I usually get the mac and cheese or the corn pudding. The mac and cheese is very creamy, and the corn pudding tastes a bit like corn bread but without that dry consistency. It’s more like a corn bread pudding, I guess you could say? I’m not disappointed I can’t have more of the sides because both of those are super yummy sides and pair well with BBQ. The side salad is also a good choice if you want to stay on the healthy side. The salad is really big for a «side» salad! I really like City BBQ– both this location and the one near IUPUI.

Decent BBQ. As someone from Seattle I don’t know good BBQ so this review is not from a BBQ snob. However, I do really, really like BBQ and City Barbeque did not disappoint. Their prices aren’t the cheapest especially if you want to try a couple sides but the food is overall good and the environment is clean. I was struggling between 3 and 4 stars because during my time dining there I was able to learn all of the gossip and issues happening in the lives of the employees. Although it was mildly humorous it was also a little awkward especially when one of them started crying in the back. Life is life though and as long as that doesn’t happen daily I’m guessing(and hoping) others won’t experience it.

Sorry, City Barbeque. Who was I kidding? You’re worthy of much more than 3 stars. I apologize — I just wasn’t feelin’ the beef brisket from my last visit. Round 2: pulled pork. Oh y’all. Melt in your mouth, fall apart on your fork goodness. Juicy, tender, delicious. Pair it with the sweet BBQ sauce and you’ve got a party in your mouth. The green beans with bacon are some of THEBEST I’ve ever had. Like Southern slow cooking style. I’m in love. Not to mention your cornbread is dense, cakey, goodness — I heated it up a smidge, slathered some butter on it, and I never looked back.

This bbq joint is overpriced garbage. Pull the membrane off the underside of the ribs. This way, smoke can fully penetrate the ribs. Ditch the 16 year old front of house staff. Where do I find damn good bbq you ask? Hanks Brisket on Michigan Rd produces some of the best bbq in the Midwest. Not cheap though. You know who will probably take your order there? Hank, the guy who owns the restaurant. Try the smoked corned beef!

A-OK pretty much to sums up City Barbeque. The décor is pretty reminiscent of many of the BBQ joints that you would find in the Texas. There are TVs throughout, if you wish to catch a game while dining. They do have a allergen menu at the register, all you need to do is ask. In terms of gluten free options, there is a decent selection. I do appreciate that they noted gluten free on my receipt to signify to the back to change out their gloves prior to plating my food. If your a die hard BBQ lover, you will most likely be let down by the flavor and texture, especially the ribs. For the love of all things BBQ, the ribs should be that tough to eat and lack flavor. The saving grace of City Barbeque is hands down the sweet tea. It is definitely reminiscent of Southern Tea, and will cause a sugar high if you drink too much.

In my opinion, in BBQ terms, this is about as good as you can get in Indy and almost perfect considering its a chain. This I can promise you — even the biggest of eaters will not go hungry. I’ve had the pulled pork sandwich, ribs and recently have gotten into the sausage and all have been excellent. You really can’t go wrong with any of the sides either. The summer seasonal item, the cucs and onions, is one of my favorites. Also love the mac n cheese, baked beans(there’s brisket right in there!) and corn pudding. I feel like I’ve been transported to the south every time I eat here. Must have something to do with the fact that they keep the sweet tea flowing. I think the«help yourself» fixings area is a great touch — pickles, onions and all of the sauces(both hot and cold) you can handle. The Brush Fire sauce is my fave! I think I would be happy drinking a cup of it. The order at the counter style of this restaurant makes it fast and convenient, although during busy times it does get a little hectic. I’ll keep coming back for the great food and friendly service. City Barbeque is a winner!
