I can’t recommend Buck Up Rides if you want well-​organized, tailored horseback riding lessons.
You want to take Western lessons? Natalie put a Western saddle on a horse that responded to English style commands and tack. Unsatisfactory. You schedule your lesson for 10 a.m. and you might actually get on a horse by 11:30 a.m. for a chaotic, hurried lesson.
I’ve taken both English and Western riding lessons OTHER places — and that’s where you should take your business too. Natalie needs more organization and teaching skills to properly instruct multiple young riders.
Maybe a trail ride would be better, but I can’t say. I’ve heard good things about the birthday parties held here. I wish I could say more positive things, but I won’t return here or recommend that others come here.

This place is the best! The instructors are knowledge and very kind. I took my best friend out for a trail ride for her birthday on Valentine’s Day and we loved every minute of it. We got to ride Shotgun, Boyscout and Girlscout. It was my first time riding in years and it was amazing. A comfortable scenic ride through a hidden hillside in between Carlsbad and Oceanside. I highly recommend Buck Up Rides and we would go back again and again! m

We love coming here! Birthday parties, trail rides or lessons all are so much fun. Plus, you cannot beat the amazing location. No driving out into the heat of the east. Trails are awesome and the views are amazing! Natalie is so patient with the children, my daughters love her. She takes the time to teach them about horsemanship, do’s and don’ts and is so understanding to each child’s needs. Go here!

I can’t recommend this place enough! Natalie is an excellent, patient and knowledgeable trainer. I’m in my 50’s so my body doesn’t want to respond like it used to but she’s getting me there! Such a cute place with lots of nice people.
The trails are amazing — full with Carlsbad history (that Natalie knows first hand from growing up there). You will want to keep coming back. Thanks so much Natalie for everything!

I brought my 4 year old expecting a «pony ride experience» but I was very pleased that Natalie took the time to show my daughter how to walk around and interact with the horse. Then she took her on the guided ride all around the property. Very pleased with the one on one interaction and the ranch environment. It’s a very nice quiet spot and only a few minutes from downtown Carlsbad.
