My family did a 4 hour kayak tour with Brian. What an AMAZING tour guide and experience in general. He is so knowledgeable about Florida and the wildlife and even more knowledgeable about kayaking, as he is the Florida representative for Epic, a kayaking company. He tailored the tour to our level experience, and was incredibly patient with us when we needed to slow up a bit. You can tell her loves his home state and told us some great stories from his time here(along with his wife, Linda!) Couldn’t recommend this tour and tour guide enough.

Went for a 2 hr kayak ride w/Steven as our tour guide. It was great! Steven was very knowledgable and showed us many varieties of sea creatures and birds. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to see manatees today because the water wasn’t quite warm enough for them. We kayaked through a path lined w/mangroves as Steven pointed out several birds along the way. Beautiful. Peaceful.

We did the two hour kayak your from Tween Waters Inn in the morning. We loved it! Our guide had great information about the area and wildlife to share. We saw manatees, dolphins and birds. I’d definitely recommend it!

We did the two hour kayak tour at 2pm around Pine Island Sound. Collin was our tour guide, and he was very knowledgable about the area, and the wildlife. They had double or single kayaks to choose from, and since we were a group of three couples, we chose the double kayaks which were all in great shape. The tour was very informative, and we got to see all kinds of wildlife. On our cruise around the sound, we saw several manatees(including a mom and a pup), as well as several dolphins, various birds, and fish. It was really funny too, because for most of the your we were followed by a commodore named Carl, who Collin was familiar with. Apparently he follows kayak tours because they kick up the grass at the bottom of the sound, which disturbs the fish, making them easier to catch. At one point, Carl even hitched a ride on Collin’s kayak. During the tour, we were also able to kayak through a mangrove trail that had been refurbished after Hurricane Charley in 2004. It’s kind of sad that more of the trails haven’t been restored, because the one we toured was beautiful, and it would have been nice to see more. All in all, it was an amazing tour, and we would gladly come back for another! Thank you for the great memories!

A highlight of our vacation was to attend Yali’s SUP yoga session which I found via Unilocal. Here is some background: I don’t really yoga but own a paddle board and my wife yogas and has paddle boarded. There was also an older woman who had never paddle boarded who did the class with us. The class starts with a simple stretching on the beach then you make your way across a channel to the«classroom» which is a magical secluded spot with mangroves all around, fish jumping and birds overhead. Along the way to the classroom I paddled past a dolphin(within paddle length), manatees, pelicans, & dive bombing birds. As crazy as it may sound a paddle board is a perfect thing on which to do yoga. It’s not hard, no one fell off and was easy and challenging at times. Yali leads you through the session with confidence, humor and sensitivity to each persons needs. We learned that Yali has been trained in India, Costa Rica, and her native Columbia. She is good, sweet, and fun to be around. This is one of those vacation activities that every husband should arrange and every yoga and/or paddle boarder enthusiast should pursue. My wife could not be more appreciative. It’s a unique activity that will allow you to see nature, get out on the water and feel like you are doing something that many may never do.

This is an over-due review of the Stand Up Paddle Board Yoga session offered by Adventure Sea Kayak at Tween Waters Marina. I had the opportunity to participate in one of the early sessions while the program was being developed, and I have to say– I was delightfully impressed. For this visit, I brought my sister, who was a first time paddler and novice yogi, and it was just the two of us with our guide Yali. I was expecting a casual paddle and some experimental yoga, and I was fantastically surprised. From the moment that we walked up, I was impressed with the professional(yet fun) treatment. The staff paid special attention to selecting the right sized boards, adjusting the paddles, and properly equipping the boards. While this was going on, a few other visitors came for both guided and unguided tours, and they were treated with the same professional and experienced manner. For the SUP Yoga… the session started with some light stretching and breathing techniques on the beach along with instruction on the fundamentals of SUP. We then departed into the bay at a leisurely pace. Immediately, we observed Manatee, Osprey, Sea Horses, Dolphin, Mullet, and a variety of other wild life. Because the paddle is on the inter coastal side of the island, it is nice and calm. I was already enjoying my my morning, and then we arrived at our outdoor yoga studio. WOW!!! Yali(our guide) had selected a perfectly serene inlet, slightly larger than a football field, and it was gorgeous. We set our little tiny anchors, and prepared for yoga. I was completely unprepared for the awesome work out that would follow. It was empowering, somewhat demanding, and still, pleasantly relaxing. I would recommend this experience for advanced yogis and newbies alike. The most simple pose on a board can reveal something about your technique and balance if you are in a well developed practice, and if your are a beginner, it will force you to perfect the fundamentals. I also really liked that there was a flow to the entire experience, we were building as the morning went on. After the Yoga portion, we did a very cool paddle through a near by trail. This may have been just because we were such a small group, but I mention it because it was very cool, and if you are renting anything, I would recommend it! This is a wonderful option on captiva and I would go as far as saying, DONOTMISS if you are a Yogi, a Nature lover, or even a SUPer. DO Wear sunscreen. Even though it is early– you are getting a lot of exposure DO Take at least 1L of cold water. You can strap it to the board. You will want it. DO Wear something with appropriate support and coverage(sport style). My sister and I were in string style bikinis. Luckily it was just the two of us, but our poor guide probably got an eyeful. DO remember that you are on island time, I would not recommend this adventure if you are in a rush or impatient. DO leave most of your stuff in hotel or car(clothes, wallet, phone, even towel) you will be on the board, and can walk to your car after. If you have a waterproof camera, bring it along!

If you want a fantastic kayaking experience, make sure you add this tour to your list. They have a variety of tours. We did the 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. tours on consecutive days because we enjoyed it so much! We still got to see so many different things because one was during low tide and the other was high tide! Keith was our tour guide both days and the first time(afternoon) we were just a group of three and it was just nice being able to ask questions along the way and not be lectured to with some memorized spiel. We had to end our first tour early due to lightning from a storm that decided to move on in, but the next day we saw the flying fish, manatees, dolphins, a king crown shelled creature, among many other birds. The kayaks with this group are so much better than the ones we used for our first tour with the Darling Preserve — they are sea kayaks — there are a couple tandem and many single ones that are very high quality, not cheap at all and the paddles were just as great quality. It says a lot about the quality of a tour when they also have quality equipment. This tour was on my first day kayaking ever and second day and I tried to do a single kayak on my second day… but got a bit scared and Keith had no issues with me changing over to the tandem so I will definitely be back for a sunset kayaking tour paddling by myself! The rate for the tour we went on was $ 40 a person and was well worth it. I was a bit scared about kayaking but will definitely be practicing at home and returning soon!
