Coming from Oahu, the big island is definitely country. We found this little gem on my Unilocal App, and from the outside you would never tell that this cute café offers a bomb breakfast. Next to a tiny little post office in a small strip mall, you’ll miss it if you blink. Walking in, we noticed that everyone knew everyone. All of the regulars shook hands and talked, caught up on whats new. How cute! Our breakfast burrito was simple. It came with potatoes, cheese, and egg, and option to add meat, avo, salsa, or sour cream for an additional charge. This burrito was humongous, and despite its few ingredients, it had great flavor. I’m pretty sure my boyfriend and I could have shared, but our eyes are always bigger than our stomach, and we both were unable to finish. The waffle had a hint of cinnamon, which my son and BFLOVED. Their brewed coffee was delicious as well. I wish I would have ordered the iced coffee to go, knowing now that they use coffee ice cubes. Genius!

Stopped for a quick snack and had some amazing curry chicken soup. Had a cup of smooth coffee as well. Everyone was friendly, the cook came out to chat. Worth stopping in, right on hwy 11. Soup was recommended by a local and there were many local residents in the restaurant. Usually a good sign when the locals lime eating there. Definitely worth a stop. Looking forward to getting the recipe for the soup!

Great Little Jewel in a Sea of Lava !! I had breakfast and coffee here 3 mornings in a row and tried their Breakfast Burrito and the Croissants. Both were Surprisingly Good. The Staff(Owners) and Cook were all Friendly and Engaging with their Customers to create a Relaxing Island feel. The place is clean and well kept. I will most definitely be back… A Must Try !

Super friendly staff! Asked me to taste my drink before I purchased it to make sure it was just right. I’ve never had that kind of service before! I tried the iced coffee with a flavor shot of coconut. Best iced coffee I’ve had in my life! Even the ice cubes are coffee!

The place looks pretty dodgy from the outside but the coffee is quite good(this is what matters). You self serve the coffee from large thermoses, which made me a bit skeptical, but the coffee was not disappointing. I often find that Kona coffee, when not of particularly good quality, becomes undrinkable when it cools. This is not the case with Coffee Grinds’ coffee. We stopped in here a couple of years ago too and thought they did a pretty good job despite sad surroundings(grocery store strip mall type of place). Definitely worth a stop for the coffee.

We stopped by for breakfast in our first day on Big Island. Very nice place, clean, very friendly staff, delicious food. Highly recommended. P. S. I wrote my review immediately after I ate my breakfast for the very first time in there. It happened that my husband and I had breakfast in Coffee Grinds for 8 days in a row, for as long as we stayed on Big Island. I absolutely love this place — food is great, local coffee is delicious, plus — this place serves mostly local people who gather there everyday for breakfast and lunch. My favorite is turkey roll with sriracha mayo. And always ask for extra avocado! They use only local avocados, which are the creamiest, the most flavorful in the world.

AMAZING. I have no idea why they’re located in Ocean-View, they’d make a KILLING in town. With that being said, I’m so glad my little family can come in and grab breakfast while we’re on the go! The food is delicious, the service is amazing and the prices are INCREDIBLE! We come here at least once a week, my boyfriend gets a full order of Biscuits & Gravy, I get a breakfast burrito with ham and our daughter gets oatmeal with fruit(and a complimentary fruit popsicle), and they’re constantly surprising us! Everything just gets better each time we come in! This place is a must!

This place would be easily passed by if you weren’t aware if it, sandwiched between an auto parts store and a Post Office. Luckily a local told us of its awesomeness. We came for lunch but they serve breakfast all day. The breakfast burrito is to die for. Didn’t get a chance to try the coffee but it smelled great as well. Give it a shot and also check out kulakai caverns since u are in the area. They Rock!

There’s not much between Captain Cook & the volcanoes… so don’t miss this place for excellent coffee, breakfast and lunch. Had the BEST coffee on the Island here– a coconut milk Latte — a must try! Vege wrap was great. Service was friendly.

This place is awesome! They have delicious coffee drinks and quality breakfast and lunch food. I love that you can choose(from many options!) add ons to your breakfast sandwich, breakfast burrito, or sandwich. They have choices for meat lovers and vegetarians alike-missing that veggie sausage as i write this. Great staff, friendly and present.

in the middle of nowhere, who thought you could find a delicious local, organic egg skillet or one of the best dirty chai with the option of almond or rice milk? that and the spot with the nicest locals in the south since the desert rose…

Kenny and Jenny just bought this place about a month ago and they’ve made a lot of positive changes. Their sandwiches are delicious, I recently had the grilled cheese and tomato– choice of cheese, choice of bread and most everything appears to be natural or local. My wife had a rosemary chicken sandwich was delicious as well very friendly very flexible in making changes to your order your request. My grilled ham and cheese sandwich with a slice of tomato they grilled the ham first which was a nice touch and then grilled sandwich it was delicious! You would never expect such good food could exist in a little strip center behind the gas station but it does, if you’re traveling through its well worth it.

They are an oasis in the volcano desert, worthy of interrupting the gotta-get-to-da-volcano drive-by! Honestly, even Starbucks doesn’t put COFFEEICECUBES in their iced coffee! Sooooo glad we had to stop for gas and noticed their storefront behind the gas pump area. It’s in a mini-strip beside a new grocery store in the only convenience area in that part of the Big Island. They have flavored coffee too as well as other food items. We live on the island and will now always include this sinful pleasure on our trips to the south end.
