I went to this place for the first time on June 5, 2016, I saw the sign from the other side of central ave so kudos on the advertising. Although, the line was out the door I was disappointed by the food. I ordered the whiting with green beans and potato salad. The fish had no flavor just salty breading this was very disappointing. Perhaps seasoning the fish a bit as well as the breading would be a good idea. Also the potato salad tasted like it was brought from the Amish market not homemade flavoring at all. In fact, the potato salad was very bland(not like old fashioned soul food) and some cubes where hard. Since I live so close to here I was hoping this could be my go to spot on the days I don’t feel like cooking for my family. I try to support local business but when you put out money and your expectations are not meet instead of getting soul food the business takes a bit of your financial soul. Not cool

Best breakfast in town. Just takes the line forever to move. Not a fan of the lunch and dinner.

After seeing 3.5 stars I thought this was going to be some good food. I ordered meatloaf, mac and cheese and yams. Let me start with the good… The yams, that’s it. The rest of the food was lacking seasoning and the meatloaf was tough.

I’ve been eating at Keith and Sons for over 10 years now and have never had a bad experience food wise. Yes, like others have said that if you go there certain times of the day there is a very long line to get to the counter.(well that says something to me-must be some good food) I’ve tried their breakfast(you get A LOT of food) and their lunch/dinner and I have no complaints. I’ve searched for another soul food place in MD that could compare to Keith and Son’s and personally«I» can’t find one.

Probably the best soul food restaurant in eastern DC suburban area. Great food at fair prices and good portions. I only wish they still carried the OX tails.

I love the food there always supper busy. So today my husband and I get up early to get breakfast in supper excited. So it’s a young man tall light skin wonderful costumer service. He’s always moving fast but making sure he is communicating with the guest as well. This is what I love about coming because it’s not the wait that bothers me. The great staff keeps you moving as fast as they can. But today this morning the cashier was horrible. Unsure if maybe it’s because she pregnant but I spoke to the young lady smiled said good morning and yet she didn’t even give me any type of emotion. She was very rude and I was shocked because I never got this service before. She couldn’t even bag my items and seem to have a attitude wen I asked for items. This is a down fall but will not stop me from coming I just hope she’s not at the register if she is going to be mad at the world it’s awkward and uncomfortable. Other than that great staff great food.

I’ve eaten there 1 time and 1 time ONLY! I know Soul Food and this wasn’t in the money at all. I had the fish platter for lunch and the fish was not seasoned(bland) and hard, they had canned sweet potatoes and something else on the plate.

Called on a Sunday to place a pick up order and was told they don’t take call in orders on the weekends. I was then asking the woman on the phone another question and she hung up while I was talking. This is an awful first impression!

Ate there 3 times in a row. The food was good the prices are cheap. On my final day I chose to eat breakfast. I order the kids meal. I waited in line for 1 hour before ordering. I had 3 people in front of me, as I’m looking around I noticed a big ass Roach. Coming from behind a stove. That was my last day there. If there’s one Roach there’s many more Roaches. The cook grab a napkin, smash the roach and continue cooking like it was nothing… Yuck ! I’ll Pass…

This place is a hidden jewel I must say. It’s not much to look at from the outside due to the lighting and area it is surrounded by. I love walked in kinda nervous because I don’t eat from anywhere, the line wasn’t too long. I was great right away by a server with a Caribbean accent. Food: the Mac and cheese was fresh and tasty, the collard greens were full of flavor. So no complaints on the food. Cons: the server asked someone in the back for an update on the fish and she lost it, I envisioned her coming out of the back with a machete, she was rude, loud and ratchet. Completely turn off to customers who were shaking their heads along with me. They ran out of bags as well and we’re putting people’s food in black garbage bags.

Unilocal said Keith and Sons is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get. If you have a job that you need to get to do not go here unless you bringing food for the boss and they sent you here. You will be late and you will be fired. Finally a review after two stops to get food to go. The food is excellent. One each occasion the taste and amount are five star worthy. I have had their ribs, meatloaf, greens, potato salad, and black eyed peas. The ribs were pork but there is a beef option and they were cooked the way I like them. I am not a big fan of the fall of the bones ribs. I like to be able to bite into them and eat the ribs they were supposed to be eaten. The meatloaf was thick as they gave you two slabs and I opted to have it covered in brown gravy that went well with the rolls they give you. Yeah I am from the South. The potato salad is mustard base and I think they used a snow shovel to scoop my portion but it was a heap that I thank them for. They serve breakfast but I have yet to try it. Breakfast is from 8 – 1030. A bit late to be opening for breakfast but hey that is just my opinion. Not sure of the time people who live around MLK wake up but I am sure that guy that was posted up asking for money in the establishment would know. Anyway I want to try some of their other food but here is where the problem arises. From my previous experience don’t look at the menu. The people that work there have no idea of what they will have on their menu. I would ask for items and the response for many items was«We are out» or «We don’t have that». This time I went there on a Sunday morning but I called first to see what they have. It was during that time when they were shifting from breakfast to lunch. I called and asked specifically if they were going to have Carolina BBQ and the lady on the phone said«We don’t know what we will be serving.» WTH. Once I got there it was a 30 minute and it was MLK Day so I want to support these businesses but they really tested me. Another issue was that breakfast ended at 1030 but they were still serving breakfast at 1050 when I got there. I understand trying to get rid of your food and not throw it out but the problem occurred that people still wanted breakfast and they were cooking additional breakfast items when people asked for them. Great to be that nice but how about concentrating on the fact that you were supposed to be serving lunch by now. Still ran into the same problem as I asked for a few items but just settled on what they had. Luckily the food was good. Also it should not take the person taking your order to walk in the back to see if they have certain items. Still there is something about this place that keeps calling me back. Oh yeah it is the good food. Come on in and have yourself an adventure.

I’ve read so many good reviews about is place. Finally, I get to experience it for myself! The food is good and the servings are plentiful. The staff is nice and friendly. There are so many good items on the menu, it hard to choose from. So, I will have to return until I’ve tried everything!

Well today I said to my wife since she’s not cooking today let’s go to old faithful Keith and sons, well I’m always please with the food here till today, so she gets fried chicken people don’t mess up fried chicken especially a soulfood spot, till today the chicken was soggy and pink in the inside blackeye Peas was bland, green beans was water down, literally no taste tried adding salt it still had no taste so I just threw it away, by the way I got pork chops, sweet potatoes, and rice and gravy, well my complaint is how sweet potatoes ain’t sweet, rice was over cook, and my dam pork chops still pink, so I just paid $ 26.79 for food that ‘s going in the trash, I hope they read this review I ask was a manager there, to let them no what’s going on these folks hung the phone up, so if the football game wasn’t on I would’ve went back down there, young people cooking I assume, horrible horrible horrible

Well lit on the inside but not so much outside. Had to circle the block because the lighting in the area is not the best. Parking is shared with the laundromat next door but it works. When you come in, you stand in line and there are pictures along the wall and a menu overhead. I’d recommend that you step out of line and get your plan A and B together before you end up holding up the line. Now with that said, let’s hope that they have the item you’ve hoped for. I initially wanted the oxtails and their corn pudding but they were out. So now I’ll have to put it on my list of items to try next time. The servers and cashier were pleasant and patient. The mac and cheese wasn’t ready so I dined in and got it right as I was leaving. It was hot and fresh so I didn’t mind the wait. The dinner rolls that they have were warm, fluffy and sweet. The portions are generous and I only ate half of my food and opted to save the remainder for lunch. I got my gremlin an order of chitterlings. I did taste them and they had a kind of vinegar-like taste to them but they weren’t bad. No complaints about the prices because it was justified by the amount of food you receive. I think I’ll call my order in next time. This way I can see if they are out of an item and it’ll be ready when I arrive. I will return to sample other items from the menu.

Ok now I got to give them 4 stars because of the breakfast I just got!!! It’s just like my grandfather would make & it was made fresh and if you look at pix you will see it was worth the wait and the cost $ 20.06 :-)

This place is definitely a jewel… It’s hard to find true soul food spots and especially for breakfast. Thankfully they had salmon croquettes and did eggs to order(over hard) and I added cheese grits. I saw someone else’s order of shrimp and grits and it looked yummy too — so pescetarians there’s a place for us :) I overheard the owner say he’s been open since 93 and it’s good to see a QUALITY Black owned restaurant that is being appreciated by the community — as the line stays long BUT they move fast!!! I don’t know how they do if. The ONLY reason I couldn’t give a five were two things mentioned above — 1) I now know what ‘oppressive heat’ is, good Lawd it was hot!!! I felt like I needed a shower when I left so I can only imagine how that is for those over the stove. 2) the young lady who works the register is definitely not cut out for customer service so it messes up your experience. The sad part is that the energy of the owner and the son was quite pleasant so I hate that she is representing their brand and possibly leaving a bad taste… The good thing is that the food leaves an awesome taste so I’m sure people will be back. OH one more things… They were right — the serving sizes will feed an army. I hope he is able to make a good profit as his prices are low… I just want him to remain in business and have enough to leave a legacy. Okay… I think that’s enough :)

I’m so mad at this place and the patrons!!! Place– How dare you sell all the Mac and cheese before I get there! Patrons– How dare you all not save me any!!! Ok seriously, this chicken was bomb! Seasoned and cook like grandma did! The gravy on my rice was soooo good I should have gotten my wings smothered! I am still dreaming about the Mac but I will most definitely be back! I WILLFINDYOU! The dining area was kept terribly but I also noticed my gf and I were the only crazy ones eating inside so I can only blame myself. I just wasn’t going to let my food get cold on the long journey back to VA!

I just went a couple days ago & the food was so dang good that I failed to take pictures… sorry guys. I got their 6 piece fried chicken wings, cabbage, and macaroni and cheese. My 5 stars is strictly speaking to their food & customer service. My son is young and very picky, but he absolutely went to town on my husband’s corn, my chicken, & my macaroni & cheese. Because they made my son eat multiple items and really EAT, you get 5 stars for that!
