The tub in the guest bathroom had a pluming issue. For an adaptor, we went to totally 3 home depot and could not find it. When getting to plumbing city, the girl is super helpful. She is very knowledgable, and attentive. She found two possible substitutes, and suggested one that most likely will work best. We left with the part, and VOILA, it works magic!!! Everything is up and running perfectly, no more leaking. They really know their stuffs here, and service is quite personalized — like neighborhood stores. I know where I will go to buy parts from now on!

Worst customer service ever. My husband was looking for a replacement part for our water filtration system. He asked the cantankerous Caucasian owner and he refused to listen to my husband’s request and punted my husband’s questions to a nearby customer that was eager to help. I would never return to this store and would warn people to stay away from this horrible store. They also have very limited supplies. Save your time, effort, and gas and avoid this place like the plague.

Dusty, dirty, surly counter help. Really disappointed. Waited around for a long time while the lone worker dealt with someone. Then when finished he looked at me and curtly said
«What do you need» in an irritated voice.
Dude your store is a dump, maybe you should at least be a little gracious to the people who come there.

I came in here upon a recommendation from someone at Home Depot. I needed a washer to fit my kitchen faucet. The employee that helped me was incredibly nice & found the part that I needed. The store itself is like any True Value Hardware store (homey feel). I like that. But, the parking lot is weird. Really weird. It’s like they built the parking lot around the trees. Yup. I love trees, but they should have done a better job (like put some kind of landscaping around it & not asphalt).

Got what I needed. Priced 3x that of a big box store. Total was $ 7 something and I’m told there is a $ 10 minimum to put on my credit card. Really? It’s 2015, How do you stay in business. The store looks like a total crap hole on top of it all.

It’s a pricey place and customer service «sometimes» can test your patience, however as with any Mom & Pop shop (probably the oldest plumbing shop in the Valley) you need patience when you come here. It’s probably one of the oldest plumbing and hardware shops in the Valley… shows it’s nostalgic look but serves purpose where Lowes and Home Depot don’t.
Sometimes short staffed, if you need something simple and need a helping hand, there’s a minimum of $ 10/​labor but they get it right.

I purchased from this shop a $ 90 brass 1 inch sprinkler assembly (actuator valve, anti-​syphon, and brass casing) made by Superior and installed it in Feb 2014. By September 2014 (only 7 months later) it wasn’t working. I called up Plumbing City and inquired about it and asked about a warranty. They asked me what was the problem and I told them. They advised to open it up, clean it out and perhaps there was some dirt in it. I did as they said, and unfortunately it didn’t fix the problem. The automatic sprinkler/​valve still did not work. I even tried a solenoid from another working adjacent valve, and this too wasn’t the problem. So, most likely it was a defective actuator/​valve.
Coincidently, I was shopping at another plumbing shop (Larry & Joe’s Plumbing Supply in Northridge) and told them my same problem. They too advised me to open it up and flush it out. They had a sprinkler assemble right there on their countertop and showed me how it works and what to do. They said if it didn’t fix the problem to just bring in the actuator since this was most likely the problem. They would swap it out, since it is under warranty. I kindly told them that I didn’t purchase it from them. They said that the place I got it from should do it no problem then.
Well…that wasn’t the case! After determining that I had a defective part, I went back to Plumbing City and told them about it (and had receipt in hand) and I wanted to know what to do next. They said that they don’t do the warranty returns unless it was within a week. Ehh??? (I guess since I am not a regular there, they couldn’t care less about me and customer service!!) This is not what Larry & Joe’s would have done!!! Did Plumbing City know what kind of warranty was on this expensive $ 90 brass full Superior assembly? Nope, they played dumb and said that they didn’t know (which is bulllsheeet! They know it’s 3 years!). They told me,…ME… to call up Superior to follow up on the warranty service. They provided me with a phone number. Thanks. Umm… thanks for nothing!
The phone number they provided was to Superior Engineering firm in Maine. Wrong phone number! (Plumbing City doesn’t even know the correct phone number of the Company/​vendor of the products they stock and warranty??) This place in Maine provided the proper phone number to the correct company in California, since they get this mix-​up often. I called them up in CA, and they were awesome! Very Helpful, Very Friendly, and they understood my problem and my troubleshooting and provided EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE! They sent me out a new actuator/​valve that same day. When I was on the phone the representative said, «I don’t know why Plumbing City didn’t just take this actuator in and give you a new one and they return it to us? It has a 3 year warranty, and they work with us all the time.»
Hmm…I dunno? Plumbing City actually told me to call you, and this is what I am doing for this defective part. I have my proof of receipt and only bought it 7 months ago and it’s not working. I guess Plumbing City are just lazy and do NOT provide customer service and that will bite them in the butt and put them out of business! And return policy? Yea, they have 15% restocking fee if you return in within 3 days! And as for warranty of their products, Plumbing City told me a week, when the product has 3 year warranty! You gotta be kidding jerks!!! Thanks for nothing guys. The new actuator/​valve arrived from Superior the very next day via UPS to my front door !!! How’s THAT for customer service???
I installed this new actuator/​valve, and wellaahh, it fired right up and all works perfectly now.
Bottom line, Plumbing City absolutely sucks with customer service, and the way they assist people. On the other hand, Larry & Joe’s is much more helpful and pleasant to work with and willing to take the time to assist customers, unlike Plumbing City. I will never go back to Plumbing City and will forever go to Larry & Joe’s and recommend the same to friends!
This place should get a negative 5 stars, but since I can’t do that, I only give them the lowest possible because of their lack of help and care with customers also for their poor people skills and lack of warranty on their products!

I love this place. It’s an old-​school hardware store that specializes in plumbing and they carry hard to find metal shower heads, plus faucets and handles that are made in USA out of brass. They have contemporary stuff too, but if you’re looking for something other than cheaply made standard «chrome look» plastic faucets that Home Depot sells — try this store. The owner works behind the counter, and his team is great. You can exchange items for the full value of what you paid, but keep in mind that if you need to return an item and you want your money back (again this is not Home Depot) you’d be better off exchanging it for another item as they keep 25% for returns. Solid customer service at a local, family owned business.

I’ve been here since I was in diapers with my father and still until this day I still come here only without my father. The tall young lady is really helpful and knows her stuff, she was quick to the gun when I asked her what I needed. Thank you for the great service I will be back

Unilocal should consider adding negative stars… this place here is expensive and their return policy is outrages. 25% and the product has to basically be mint. I bought a valve for my leaky shower, and it had a scuff from the wrench I used and the washer had a ring on it. They ended giving me a refund, but charged me for a new washer. Their customer service sucks. I get that they carry a look of unique parts, but they’re giving True Value a bad name.

I would love to see the Customer Service Manual of this store. I do not know where True Value Store finds people like this. No polite greeting, no smile, and a tense brief discussion to find a part. I was happy to leave the store after buying the part hoping that I will not go back to the store. Unfortunately, the part was defective and I returned it with a couple of hours to get a refund. Surprise, surprise, I was hit with a 25% restocking charge. My next stop was Home Depot where I found the part at half the price and where returns are never a problem and never restocking charge.

Need something you just kind find for your vintage house? Have a problem your plumber can’t figure out? Plumbing city can fix it, their collection of vintage sinks n toilets in any color imaginable is unbelievable, old school and knowledgable.

Dirty little plumbing etc. store. It reminds me of shopping in Tijuana, products scattered all over, employees with attitude, cluttered aisles, junk everywhere. Their street sign is missing letters and in such bad condition it should be torn down.

My story started when I was sent there by another plumping store to see if they carry a part that I was looking for. I am walking in and being greeted by a bunch of used ugly toilets, then a grumpy hispanic gentleman asked me what am I looking for? After explaining to him, he started looking around and he realized he didn’t know what he was doing. After a while he calls a younger gentleman who supposedly knows more. He comes and mickey mouses few pieces together to make it work. I look at the setup and it seemed like it’s not the right fitting. He insisted that it’s correct. As I’m about to pay the first guy (Mr. Grumpy), I said, are you sure this will work? He said yes and said make sure to use two wrenches to tighten it up and you are fine. He then asked, do you want me to tighten it for you so you can see it? I said sure because, I rather not to drive back from Los Angeles just in case it didn’t work. He grabbed two wrenches and tightened it. I was feeling better about it. Then, the second guy turns around looking at the other guy and says oh you didn’t believe me? Now he has to charge you $ 10 for labor! I’m like what are you talking about? I thought they were joking with me. The first guy (Mr. Grumpy) points out to a sign on the ceiling and says didn’t you read the sign? There is a sign hanging on the ceiling with two wires, stating «minimum labor wage charge $ 10.00 dollars, which would be that last place anyone would look in a hardware store. I turned around and told him don’t you think you should have told me before you started to tighten the knots.
I could have simply bought two wrenches for $ 5 and do it myself! The owner was standing right there and he points out to him and says don’t you think my boss has to pay me? So, I have to charge you. I responded and said I understand that and I like to support and promote small businesses. But, don’t you think when you offer me to do this you should have also told me that it comes with a price tag of $ 10 rather than pretending to provide customer service. He started making rude and racial commentaries, «Where are you from?» «Can’t you read English?»
Now the punchline, the employee is making these derogatory remarks in front of the other customers attempting to belittle me when he can barely speak a word of English. At this point, the owner of store who was standing there the whole time witnessing and hearing the conversation turns around and tells me that, this is the way it is and if I don’t like it I should go to Home Depot.
I’m seriously thinking of spending the $ 85 for small claims court to get $ 10 back. It is not the money that is the issue, it’s the principle of it. I usually tip the valet parking guys at restaurants and bars $ 10 and it never bothers me and makes me feel good. But, to be set up, taken advantage of and later degraded because I had no actual notice of the charge doesn’t chime well with me.
With regard to their pricing they are out of their mind and I don’t understand why people go there and let’s not even talk about their fantastic ambiance. Starting from the parking lot, where they welcome you with all the used toilets in front of the door. I guess they giving you a hint about their service and attitude which is like SH*T.
In conclusion, don’t trust the store employees, read everything and take the hint as you walk in!!!

OMG they had a specific type of screw I needed for my motorcycle’. Could not be happier. And got two for a dollar! Highly recommend!!!

This Place in my opinion has the worst customer service I have ever experience! This place looks like a complete dump and whats with all the old toilets outside. The Customer service was so bad I acculally had to sue them (case # 11v054301).
My story begins like this,
I was doing some plumbing work for a lady that just did some remodeling for her kitchen. She needed a new hot/​cold water filter facet (just the facet not the filter). So since she lived in Canoga Park I decided to go and purchase the Item she wanted at Plumbing City. The thing with Plumbing city is that they do have most of the «hard to find» items but they are grossly over priced in my opinion. As I walked in I was greeted with stares, not «wow he looks hot» stares but «who the f*ck is this guy» stare. I walked up one of the three guys that were at the counter staring at me, this guy had a long mustache, he looked like he would be in a silent film. It was the type of mustache that stood straight out, you could hang your coat on. I asked him where i could find this faucet i was looking for but this strange guy gave no answer. It wasn’t until a nice female employee answered my question and showed me where the item was. The faucet was price over $ 300.00 dollars! I was shocked but i needed it anyways.
I purchased the item and swam through the filth to get my self out of the store.
I got to my customers house and showed her the faucet, she said it was okay and I began to install it. After I was done my customer changed her mind and said she didn’t like it because it didn’t really match the rest of her décor, so I got the faucet and went back to Plumbing City. When I got to the store, I went to the same girl that helped me and I told her that I wish to return this faucet. She agreed. But she was unable to process the return in there system because I paid with a check, so she had to get her manager. The manager comes in and looks at the faucet for 5 sec and say they will not accept the return. I asked why. He said it’s been installed already and it’s there policy not to accept items that were installed. I said «it’s not like I’m returning this a month later, i was just in here nearly an hour ago». He still refused. I stated that i don’t see this policy anywhere in this store and what if the item was defective how would i return it. He stated «you would have to call the manufacture for a replacement» and I said «what if I just want my money back!». He didn’t have a response he just kept saying this is our policy. I told him this is bad customer service and that his policy doesn’t make any sense. We went back and forth for a while. Then I finally left. They did not accept the returned Item, even though the item was in mint condition.
The very next day I filed a small claims case against this company.
Before for you shop at this store please consider other plumbing stores in the area such as: Pyramid plumbing supplies, Hirch Pipe and supply, Ferguson, Larry and Joes… heck, even try home depot, lowes, or Osch.

I had to replace a pipe on my water heater and called them to see if they had this particularly hard-​to-​find piece in stock. They did. Went in and got the impression this is one of those places where you have to be a regular to get decent service. I’d barely tolerate that at a bar; but definitely not at a plumbing supply place.
The guy behind the counter was an older gent with an oversized wacky mustache. I’ve learned these types are always trouble. They’re right up there with the guys who walk around Third Street Promenade with a parrot or iguana on their shoulder and desperately try to act like they don’t know what people are reacting to. One of those I-​need-​attention types.
Anyway, I was seemingly intentionally ignored for a few moments as he busied himself with other little tasks. But finally his gaze rested on my face and I said hello. No response. I told him I’d called for that pipe. I mentioned to him they said they’d have it for me at the front. Where can I pick it up? I’m smiling, patient, friendly.
The unholy spawn of Salvador Dali and Wilfred Brimley there just stares at me.
Is it at this desk? Is there someone else I should talk to?
Nothing. He keeps staring at me. (Honestly, I was beginning to get the impression the guy was either deaf or… mentally disabled).
Finally, he reaches somewhere down below and produces the pipe which he lays on the counter, still staring at me, without a word. «Oh, okay. Great. I take it that’s it???»
Nothing. Staring.
Finally; «Anything else?» he asks me.
«Nope.» I replied. I paid for it (expensive, but no other local store carried it), and got the hell out of there.
Were those the opening strains of «Dueling Banjos» I heard as I left?

When you first drive into the lot you’re greeted by a garden of toilets. You’ve got to love a place with a veritable sea of toilets basking in the Chatworth sunshine. There’s the mundane white Standards and then there are some 70’s sunshine yellow numbers along with some oddly cool sea green items. The majority are in ok condition (should you be searching for that fav second-​hand squatter), but others are clearly out to the asphalt pasture.
Inside, the store is a fairly large treasure trove of all things plumbing (and not so plumbing — one of my machetes came from here). They carry as best as I can tell a very complete selection of piping, fittings and wrenches. The store has a few large counters spread throughout. You kind of need to wander around a bit and see what’s on the counters or inside the glass cases. Well, that’s what I do. Of course you could do something rational and ask for help…
Actually, I’ve broken down and asked for help before… shuffled off the male coil… and, well, the service is excellent. The guys are really knowledgeable and friendly. You don’t get treated like an ignoramus for being unsure or uneducated about the world of plumbing. Which is cool for fix-​it-​yourself-​cretins like me.
Pricing? Well that depends on what you’re buying of course. Honestly they’re fair. The few times I’ve wandered in, it was often for items not so commonly found elsewhere. Furthermore the friendly customer service that is also helpful, is a huge plus. You won’t get ripped off or jerked around.
This is a pretty good sized neighborhood store with a nice helpful staff, and most likely with exactly what you need… assuming its plumbing or machetes.
