The food is just so so. I felt that the service was alright, but we couldn’t tip our waitress the first time, because you can’t tip on a credit card there.

Definitely can’t knock on the Three Pines too much, as it does a perfectly adequate job of being exactly what it is: a small town diner/bar. Calling it a diner may not be fair, but based on the prices and the food, I would say it is closer to diner fare than anything else. This is not to say it is not good. The garlic bread served before dinner was excellent, and was refilled with no problem. I tried the haddock dinner. The fish was meh and served with a side of pre-packaged tartar. Everyone else at my table had some variant of italian: chicken parm, stuffed shells, and ravioli. The chicken parm was basically chicken fingers covered in a red sauce with some mozzarella cheese… not very inspired. The cheese ravioli and stuffed shells looked and tasted very good. Two of my compadres ordered dessert — french silk pie and apple dumpling some thing or another — both looked good. For 4 of us, with 2 beers, a round of sodas, and 4 meals(including salads), and 2 desserts it came to $ 67 — not bad. If you’re looking for a hole in the wall in Canastota(not known for fine dining anyway), the Three Pines will suit you just well.

We ate here while driving across NY on the way to VT. I thought the McDonald’s just off I-90 was good but the wife wanted to try a local place. We ate lunch at the bar in front of the restaurant, which was a nice bc we had a good talk with the bar tender and the 2 locals eating there as well. I ordered«The Boss» — an open faced beef with sauteed greens covered with melted provolone. It was just OK bc the meat was deli meat they heated up in the microwave. Not worth the $ 6.95. Wife had the open faced Reuben. Same thing — deli meat heated up in the microwave and sour kraut/cheese melted on top. She wasn’t feeling it. I told her we should have hit the arches. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here.
