The Proper Cafe

They are homophobic! My newly engaged friends went there for a drink to celebrate and told they cannot display affection in their establishment. I haven’t been there in a while so I don’t know if they have the same owners. They should be ashamed of themselves. Maiya

I completely hate this place!!! The managers and workers are very rude!!! I was at the proper last night for a few drink and food as I’m newly engaged and the manger NAMED JUSTICE found it necessary to walk up to my fiancé and I to tell us we can’t be affection with one another there. Although we were talking very closely and not being affectionate. However, not the case! Had we’ve been a heterosexual couple we wouldn’t have gotten the treatment we have received last night. I will NEVER GO BACK TO THIS BAR!!! THEY JUST LOST OUR MONEY. I’D BE IN MY RIGHT MIND TO THOW A LAWSUITE AT THEM!!!

I usually go on Sundays which is karaōke night .don’t go too early this place gets live after 12 .they also make some good mac n cheese and my bff loves the wings. they have great pina colodas for 8 bucks or a rum punch which holds no punches. Ive seen some talent here that is profound my faves are omotayo, tay, donel lotus, kookie.

This establishment has been here for a long time and although I’ve lived in the neighborhood for my entire life, I’ve only been here once.
Every night they have theme nights. My friends and I went on a Wednesday and it was Karokee (sp?) night. We ordered food and watched people do their thing on the mic. The food was good and decently priced. The drinks were more economical and my martini (though served in a paper cup) was well made. There are a few seafood and traditional American food options but the menu is mostly Southern.
The crowd is certainly old school and even though I’m only 22, I didn’t mind that. People were watching the basketball game but they also had a DJ spinning old school classics. Good vibes.
I had a good nite and decided to go back again?
Well I couldn’t. I wanted to grab a drink at the bar but it was Comedy Night and was charging 10 dollars for everyone. Annoying, considering I only wanted to chill at the bar.
