This is a great place to find some very good, rare and hard to acquire wines. Located in the back upper floor of the historic Calistoga train depot inside of the railroad car you will find this very unique wine stop. Dusty cases upon dusty cases of some amazing varietals soil out of the car and into the aisles around — everywhere you look — more cases. Tim the owner has been there for over 28 years. He is knowledgeable and friendly, and can help you find some of the great local wines for your rack or cellar. A solid 5 star wine shop. A must stop for any wine enthusiast. 56

So much fantastic stuff stuffed into a unique space. It’s hidden away inside a sort of strip mall, but well worth stopping. Some very hard to find wines. Strongly recommend

First off, this was place was RAD! My wife and I were staying over night in Calistoga celebrating my half way to 70 birthday(35). It was mid morning and not a lot of places had opened yet so we chanced into the Depot and found the Wine Stop. Tom was very friendly in greeting us and was talking to another gentleman that was sitting there going over a newspaper and a quiz. Tom asked us if we would like to try some wine and of course we said yes. The other man sitting down stopped us for a second and asked My wife and I if we would like to take a quiz about 1944. I recognized the man but couldn’t put my finger on it but we of course obliged him because it was fun. After the quiz was done I noticed his hat said Seaver Vineyards on it and I’d just recently read an article in Wine Spectator about Tom Seaver and Seaver Vineyards. I’m a huge baseball fan and Tom Seaver in my opinion is one of the best 3 pitchers of all time! As this gentleman was leaving, he said thank you to both of us and went on his way. I asked tom the owner of Wine Stop if we had just been quizzed by Hall Of Fame baseball player Tom Seaver and he responded yes! This absolutely made my day! Tom(the owner) and I ended up talking baseball for about an hr and I loved the wines he had in his shop. What an awesome and rare experience. It is a memory I will never forget and I will definately be back! Thanks both of the Tom’s!

Stopped in for a tasting after a long and treacherous drive down the Mount St. Helena switchbacks. Ended up buying three bottles within thirty minutes. Selection was a bit small, but very good. The proprietor, or man in charge at the time, was very friendly and helpful(and obviously a good salesman), and let me «taste» about three-quarters of a bottle of various wines. The fact that the shop is mostly housed in an old railway car doesn’t hurt either. I enjoyed my visit.

Eclectic but small selection, great wine knowledge and friendly service. Prices not out of line either. Really enjoyed the T-Vine tasting, they are a great winery I had lost track of.

Our group was getting lunch at the Palisades Café and we had been off to a slow start for our wine tasting and what to my luck the Wine Stop in the back. The guy running the place was very helpful and nice and helped me pick up a nice wine for lunch. He was also very helpful and gave me a couple wine glasses to to use for lunch. We enjoyed a nice lunch and a bottle of vino. After I returned my glasses and off we went to our next stop. Very helpful, and just what we needed that day.

I love C W S. I came across this shop which is located up the stairs from Palisades Café a couple of years ago. It is a train car converted into a wine shop. I wandered in and stumbled upon Maui Pineapple Champagne. This special spirit was served at the BF’s brothers wedding in Kona. We decided to pre order 4 bottles as an Annie gift for them. Tom, the owner, is super helpful and knowledgeable. He special ordered the bottles for us because they had none in stock. He offered to ship them to us or come by for pick up. It gave us an excuse to come back the following weekend for pick up. There are many great choices of wine and if you can’t find what you are looking for Tom can give you some suggestions for retrieving your wine choice.
