Unprofessional and unfair business practices led me to report this business to the Better Business Bureau. I brought 22 items of clothing to High End Consignment, all of which were accepted by the owner to sell in her consignment store. She gave me an itemized Purchased Order, with a tracking number on it, and took down detailed description of each item. When I followed up with the owner at a later date, she complained that I hadn’t followed up quickly enough and that she couldn’t tell me anything about my items. I produced the itemized Purchase Order for her, which she looked at, then said she didn’t recognize any of the items. I pointed to a dress hung up in a display behind her, which was mine. She checked a tag attached to the dress which was labeled with the tracking number on my Purchase order. At that point she said she needed some time to figure out what had happened with the rest of my clothes and said she needed to set up an appointment with me, and that the earliest time she could meet was three weeks away. However, when I returned for my appointment said she«didn’t have the technology» to ascertain whether or not all of my 22 items had been sold, or at what prices. She was able to locate 4 of my 22 items, and invited ME to search around her showroom to attempt to locate the other items. She told me she was«doing me a favor» by giving me $ 24 to cover the profits of the remaining 18 items. This would mean that on average, each of these missing items sold for about $ 1.33 each. I want to be clear that it’s not the low profit that I was given, but the unprofessional and unfair business practice of the owner that I want to complain about. I find it unacceptable that this company does not have a system to account for the items that are sold and at what prices each item is sold for. This means that basically she could have given me any amount of money she wanted to when I followed up with her, and I believe she did just that. I am submitting this complaint because I believe that any individual who brings clothing to sell at her store deserves documentation of the items that the store accepts. The owner is not running a donation center for clothing, she is running a High End consignment store. The nature of her business is to sell consigned items and it is pure incompetence not to keep records accounting for these items.
