We used Courtyard to cater our wedding and they did an awesome job. They were on time for every meeting, very helpful staff who genuinely care that you like your food, and timely with responses. (Brides, keep in mind that the farther out from your event, the longer you’ll wait for a response– the closer you get the quicker the response time gets; true of most wedding vendors from my experience. So, don’t panic if you’re 9 months out and it takes them 3 – 4 days to respond; this is still timely IMO because when your date approaches, you’re going to be at the top of the call list– until then, chill a little!) We received so many compliments on our food and cake. We also used the floral department to do some simple baby’s breath in beer bottles and they turned out great. The staff who worked our wedding were courteous and Chef Mike complimented our wedding(yes, most vendors will– who tells a couple they have awful taste on their wedding day) but he seemed genuine and I appreciated that he took a moment to make us feel special by complimenting our choices. Thank you Courtyard– I don’t know if I’ll ever have a big event like this again but you did a fabulous job.

Ok, despite all the problems they had that were not their fault

Gooseberries catered our wedding and overall, we were happy with the food. Our guests also said that everything was great. Personally, my piece of chicken was a little on the dry side as was the beef(unfortunately I didn’t get a rare slice as we were the first people to hit the buffet… it would have been helpful if the server slicing had asked«well», «medium» or «rare» and then sliced accordingly). However, a «foodie» friend of mine said their beef was perfectly rare and their chicken was not at all dry(and he would have told me). The only other complaint was that the type of sauce for the beef was not what we asked for. Those two things aside, we were happy with the food and Chef Mike is a pleasure to deal with.

I thought Gooseberries was great for helping me plan to cater for my wedding until it came to canceling it and they would not return the amount of money I put down as a PREPAYMENT(not a deposit) towards the services I was no longer receiving. The owner got involved, Dave Spiegelhoff who said he would speak to his legal council about the way the contract I signed was written. I have had several people read the contract which all have agreed, including an attorney, that Gooseberries/Courtyard Catering still owes me over $ 1000 as a refund. It’s been 30 days since I’ve heard from him. I never want to do business with this company again for this single reason. I had no complaints prior, I loved the coordinator Doreen who was helpful, Chef Mike was great in that he was so down to earth and gave great suggestions. I was planning on using this company again in the future, but I feel that a company that refuses to give back money to someone who has worked very hard for months for their wedding, especially when it’s a family owned business, then they are in the wrong business. I understand their business is to make money, but the contract they wrote out states I get more money than what they have refunded so far. And to ignore my calls and emails is not good business.
