I’m so sad this closed. We drove across the valley for some albondiga soup and saw it closed! Why?!

Just found out a few days ago, that this place closed last month. Sad. I’ll really miss it! It was a nice little restaurant right around the block from my apartment. RIP Don Diego.

Gone but not forgotten… This was my FAVORITE local Mexican food joint. Came back from a vacation and all I was craving was some Don Diegos so we went over to get some grub. I walked up and tears filled my eyes… there was brown paper over the windows and a board over the door. We walked around back and saw the place was gutted out and a gentleman working in there said they were remodeling and the Mexican restaurant is now gone. This really makes me sad cause I really loved this place and the people who worked here. I will hold this place close to my heart and in my memories. Good bye Don Diegos… you will be missed :(

A few office colleagues took me for lunch to this restaurant yesterday. It was my first visit. The décor and the paint outside represented a true Mexican restaurant straight from Mexico. The staff was nice and we were immediately seated. The chips and salsa served had no taste at all. I ordered the wet chicken burrito and it had no taste or flavor at all. I paid like $ 4.50 for the burrito and it wasn’t even worth that much… Not sure if I will go again.

Disgusting food… service is terrible!!! The lady that took my order had the FML face and looked kind filthy. Why wait on people if you hate your job! Of course my son orders a burger at a mexican restaurant… a burger so bad that after my son tried it, he said that he never wants to go to Mexico if this is how it is over there! The bread was burnt. i told him to just scrape it off but it was bad and on both buns… COMEON!!! I ordered some flavorless tacos an old rice. My sister warned me… but I didn’t listen. This place made me realize why Mexicans run for the border.

It’s Not The Ritz… I Actually Know People Who Would Kill Me For Even Eating Here. But I Don’t Mind Hole In The Wall Places. I Like It. I had a chicken burrito! I posted a pic. My only complaint… is that it came on such a small plate. Lol! Other than that I loved it. The chips were cold. They taste home-made just cold. I think it tastes good. Not as busy on a Friday night as it could Be!!! They Need Some Help #GordonRamsey!!!

OK. I’m gonna be honest. I came here thinking it was the place next door. Some days it happens. Inside is quaint and probably not 5 stars in cleanliness, but hey that’s OK. But I was happy with the service and it was good food on the cheap. I’d come here again.

We have been loyal customers for more than 10 years. The waitresses are awesome. The tacos, oh baby, they are good! But really everything we have eaten here is good. They have one big booth that seats 6 adults, kind of cozy, but also fun! Some of our family favorites are… quesadillas, enchiladas(chile verde or cheese), pollo con crema. The chicken soup is probably our family favorite. It is huge, fresh and cooked to amazing yumminess! We usually ask for no bones, if you don’t they will give you bone in chicken. If you are bringing kids, they have a delicious mild salsa. The beers are always cold and the atmosphere is friendly and chill. We love it here!

I cheated on Tapatio. And right behind its back. Today when I stepped into the Don Diego, the sun poured in through the windows, the bell on the door chimed and slammed back and the jukebox played and I transported. There was Victoria in the fridge and these almost wonderfully cheesy posters suggesting I order ‘a delicious cocktail.’ This felt authentic. This looked promising. I was wrong. Don Diego is kind of terrible. I had been here before, but not in a long while and decided to give it a shot after hearing they had fish tacos. I, as many reviews may attest, love fish tacos. Enough as it turns out to cheat on my beloved Tapatio, which is literally next door. I often wondered why there would be two Mexican restaurants next door to each other. Now I know. The chips were the best part of the meal and the salsa that came with it was spicy but an unsatisfying, thin consistency. The tacos($ 2.10 each) were minimally dressed with either a dollop of guacamole or sour cream, though not the thin often spiced crema you’d find at a Mexican restaurant. Nope, just think gob of the regular stuff. The carnitas were large, grey flavorless chunks of nothing. The fish($ 2.60), despite being listed on the menu as fried, came as chopped up and grilled. Trying to sort this out got me a the fried fish, which came breaded like you might bread milanesa. Weird. It too was awkwardly dressed, I think I only got cabbage because I mentioned it in the description of what I think of when I think fried fish taco. And then I was charged for both. The pastor taco was the ‘best’ of the bunch here, which is not saying much and strange since it isn’t even on the menu. They do however list an octopus taco. I’ll pass. It occurred to me that, armed with a microwave you could go across the street and whip up a much better carnitas taco or drive up the street to Del Taco and get better fish. Or go next door to Tapatio, where the fish tacos aren’t fried, but everything is significantly better. I don’t think I finished a single taco. Who gives up on a taco? They sampler sized to begin with. I, once, in a moment of inspired lunacy ate 18 of them in an hour on a whim. This was both a chest-pounding accomplishment and a immediately regrettable mistake. I once even went to a Mexican restaurant in Belgium, also filed under THINGSYOUSHOULDN’T DO, but even I hold their food in higher regard than the tacos of one Don Diego. Seriously, Belgium. As I walked the walk of shame past Tapatio I glanced back and spotted a sign in Spanish seeking an experienced ‘cocinero,’ or, as it turns out, a chef. Gotta pay attention to the Spanish…

All the time when I’ve visited this place I’ve always received a great costumer service, specially for this young lady Marcela always has a great attitude smiling all the time, and of course the food always is fresh, very good prices. I don’t have to complain about it. You have to try Don Diego’s Mexican Food, the seafood is my favorite !!!

After coming here for two years cause it’s a work lunch place, I just recently really like this place now that I know to order just the amazing soft tacos. They are super cheap and super delicious. The asada and carnitas come with guacamole which totally boosts the flavour. The carnitas have the delicious crispy pork bits that I love so much too. Today I ordered a potato taco(instead of the asada) which was hard shell and came with sour cream and cheese. It needed something so next time I will stick with the combination that works best for me — meat!!! SO tasty! Two of the guys had a chili burrito and the third had the chicken taco meal. They are huge fans of DD and loved every bite. I love the rice too but to eat two tacos with rice and beans is too much. I swear last time I was here I saw John Mayer but not today.

Well I was eating a Lengua burrito here last night. The meat was dry little pieces… I wasn’t enjoying that too much, and I have definitely had better Lengua burritos than this before. The gross thing was that at the end of the meal, a couple sitting across from my friend and I suddenly jumped up and ran away from their table with a look of horror on their faces. I looked over and almost screamed… the largest cockroach I had ever seen was running across their table! That sucker must have been at least 3″ long! The crazy thing is that this place got an ‘A’ stuck to their window. I know restaurants all have bugs, but this one was a pretty healthy specimen. I felt really sorry for the couple… They moved to another table to finish their meal, but it just ruins everything when a giant cockroach runs across the table that you are eating at. Yuck! Needless to say, I won’t be back.

Why it’s taken me this long to write about this place is beyond me because I’ve been coming here for years. It’s a small, very small mexican joint, at best. I think it’s been a staple in Burbank for many, many years and I do hope they’ll last. The Pozole is delicious and you can have it any day and any time. Unlike some other places that serves it only on weekends or mornings, I appreciate them offering it whenever I want it and I like it! Staff has always been friendly and I agree they need to kill or retire that juke box because it is annoying and I’ve never seen anyone put money into it! Parking is also a nightmare so get there early because seats fill up during lunch time.

I was really forward to finding my go-to spot in Burbank for authentic Mexican food… or at least as close as it gets in Burbank! I was sadly let down. Review based on menudo and tacos de asada(take– out). Menudo — OK, I know… I’m a little Asian girl walking into a Mexican restaurant and ordering menudo… but if I’m ordering it, it means I know how to eat it… and most importantly, know how it is suppose to taste! It wouldn’t have been THAT bad, but once I got home, I noticed I did not get enough oregano, the slices of lime were DRIED out, and there was only a pinch of chili flakes! Ugh! Tacos de asada — The meat was dry and bland. The tortillas a little too big. Not enough cilantro and onion… and there was guacamole in it! The hot sauce that it came with was runny and bland as well. I think I’ve had enough tacos de asada to a point where my Mexican coworkers call me señorita! This was not your typical Mexican taco! And it was pricey!!! I think it was like $ 2/taco. I’m used to paying at the most, $ 1.25 for a taco and tasting WAY better! I will not be coming back. ** Still in search of good Mexican food near me **

When I came out to SoCal 10 years ago. I craved my moms authentic mexican cooking. This is the only place that comes close. After many many many different restaurants, we always go back to this one. When my mom came for a visit a few years back my hubby and I took her. It got her approval. After eating at mexican restaurants at Olvera street(blech) this is by far the closest to moms cooking. My husband gets the two taco combo usually and I get the taco taquitos combo. The asada tacos are the best. topped with fresh guac done right. Sure its not a great looking progressive restaurant. its a hole in the wall mexican restaurant that has bathrooms outside, but the food and service is always great. And you cant beat the fair rices and portion sizes.

I liked Don Diego, but minus one star for the AC making our food so cold that it was a bit hard to enjoy. They start you off with chips and salsa — yumm. We ordered 2 plates of Nachos with Carne Asada for a group of 4 — definitely filled all of us and was still delicious, despite the fact that the cheese and beans hardened in 5 minutes. Plus, the serving was pretty big. As an entrée, I ordered their Shrimp Taco and Fish Taco, both really goood if you like seafood in your tacos and grilled to perfection with a nice dollop of sour cream. I would go back here again, but I’d definitely sit in a different spot so that cold air isn’t blasting over my food. I really want to try their Menudo.

THEGOOD: I love the dive-y mexican grill atmosphere. The shrimp is out of this world! If I go back I’m ordering shrimp everything. They grilled it to perfection and lightly seasoned it so it still tasted like it had the mexican food flare. I love the authenticity of the menu items. THEBAD: The quesadilla was, I hate to say this, too cheesy! I know it sounds crazy but it was like eating a slab of melted cheese. Since theyre so small they dont have a wide selection of beers to choose from. ALLINALL: I’d definitely go back and try more items. perhaps I can give them a higher grade if my next visit is better. I recommend you at least give this place a try.

This place has some authentic, and delicious Mexican food. The entire atmosphere of the place is very relaxed and their asada and chicken are really good quality. My recommendation would be the Carne Asada Quesadilla! I’ve had it and it’s extremely cheesy and good. They also have beer and some crisp and tasty chips. Definitely a great place that’s a sit down and better than all those chains out there!

I pass this Mexican place every time I go to Trader Joe’s /Home Depot and never actually had the opportunity to dine here until today. We came in for lunch and I had the chicken enchiladas lunch special, which had 2 generously stuffed enchiladas in red sauce, along with delicious rice, and beans which could’ve been better, but still pretty good. I think it only falls short of beans made with lard(which aren’t very good for my heart nor my waistline!). Oh, my lunch set also came with a drink of your choice. My friends ordered a carnitas burrito(pork) and a camarones y pescado burito(shrimp & fish). Both burritos were HUGE! The pork one had tasty grilled pork chunks in it, while the shrimp & fish one was BURSTING with shrimp and fish. Boy, are they generous here! Muy bien! I also loved the salsa and chips served when you sit down. And while service wasn’t excessively friendly(not overzealous Cheesecake Factory types who rattle off ‘Mahi-Mahi, fish of the day yadda yadda’), our server was attentive, helpful, patient, and well, efficient, in a word. Kudos to Don Diego for having soul and character. It reminded me very much of the small family run ‘restaurantes’ in South America where I had cheap & tasty meals. Will definitely be coming back!
