Beautiful and inspiring, even on such a small scale(for FLW). We opted for a paid tour and saw/learned more than we could have anticipated. The visit being on a frigid February day, we’ll return when it’s milder so we can enjoy the outside equally.

Tours require 48 hours notice. With so much else to here, it’s really not worth a stop until they establish some regular hours.

We recently had our rehearsal dinner for thirty people at the Boathouse and it was one of the best decisions we made regarding the wedding. The director was incredibly accommodating and helped us plan the perfect evening. It was wonderful to be able to have our guests wander around a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building, enjoy a beautiful summer evening socializing on the Niagara River as the sun set and sip wine while watching the colored lights of the Peace Bridge. It’s such a classy yet relaxing place to have a party and really highlighted some of the great things about Buffalo to our out of town guests. It was a great way to experience the Boathouse and I’d do it again in a heart beat.

Wow… Paul L just did a Lonely Planet on the boat house! To echo his review, you can see it, can’t get in and it is not much to look at unless you understand the nuances of a plaster building with some windows. I liked it, bring a tall friend and you can stand on their shoulders to see into the windows from the outside.

Huh, a new Frank Lloyd Wright structure? Yes, it opened in 2006 and the boathouse is his 1905⁄1930 design originally intended for the University of Wisconsin that was never constructed. This boathouse — right on the fast-moving Niagara River near the foot of Porter Avenue with the Peace Bridge to Canada as a backdrop — is the home of the non-profit West Side Rowing Club, one of the oldest rowing clubs in the United States. While you probably won’t have the chance to get inside, you can get close to the two-story concrete exterior with its red oak doors. With the Darwin-Martin house completing a $ 30 million restoration, the Blue Sky Mausoleum and the Greycliff Estate, Buffalo has one of the unique collections of Frank Lloyd Wright structures in the United States.
