My wife went into the Grog after watching a movie at the BMFI. Being an Irishman, I’m always happy to see Irish entrees on the menu but I always check for signs of authenticity to ensure they actually know how to make the dishes they are serving. I was very happy to see the Shepard’s Pie was made with lamb and not beef as is the case in a lot of establishments who do not know the difference between a Shepard’s Pie and a Cottage Pie. When the dish arrived I did not recognize it. Instead of a baked/grilled cheese covered layer of potatoes, the«Shepard’s Pie» had a minimal amount of potato«piped» onto the top of the contents with each piping being ¼″ in diameter and ~1″ apart giving a minimal amount of potato in the overall dish. There was no evidence of any cheese anywhere. The lamb ‘stew’ underneath was bland with a gelatinous consistency one would expect from a can. I understand ‘chefs’ want to create their own versions of food and often appreciate when they do. But, if you’re going to do so, change the name to indicate it’s not the standard dish that is served and appreciated the world over. Not doing so disappoints those who simply want to experience the comfort food of their youth.

Ran across this little pub by accident as we aren’t typically in the area. Had an early dinner and drinks just before St Patrick’s day. The service was friendly and attentive, the food was delicious and the value for the money was incredible. Very pleasant experience!

Great menu selection and drinks selection. I was introduced to this bar by a good friend and would definitely recommend this place if you want to go somewhere to chill and have a good time while enjoying great food and drinks. Service was also top notch.

It’s hard to find a place in between what Bryn Mawr throws at you. Do I want to enjoy cheap drinks in an over crowded bar with a clogged toilet? Should I run up the old credit card at the Sodosopa inspired lounge? I’m sort of an in between guy and The Grog hits the bullseye dead center. This bar just does right what it’s clearly intending to do. Have a clean environment, amazing drink selection and reasonable prices. Whenever I come here with some people for«a drink», we always end up spending the rest of our night here. The bartenders here know how to make drinks… good drinks. Mike, one of the bartenders here always impresses with his knowledge on beer and bourbon, makes a killer cocktail as well. Waitresses are always down to earth and the food is great. The Grog is what it is, and I hope it stays that way.

I had the most fabulous time here! I was home for the weekend and stopped by at a local bar I had never been to before. Needless to say I had a fantastic time! Mike and Gia were so accommodating and friendly. They recommended great drinks too! thank you!

It’s a pretty small/cozy bar(so no dancing, pool tables, or room for activity), but the waitresses were able to accommodate the group of people(about 6 people) to a large booth without a problem. It’s a decent bar with a decent size list of beer selections. There were over 50 beers listed, so you are likely to find something you’d like. I’m more impressed that the bartender was able to make a good bitter lemon and gin. So that’s +1 from a 3 stars for me considering that a lotttt of bartenders do not know how to make it. Besides the drinks, I’ve had the Chicken & Portabello Panini and Fish & Chips so none of the Irish dishes. The food is average that’s just a tad bit pricey, although the proportion is slightly big. Service is great though. The waitresses kept checking back a lot to see if we needed more drinks and to reconfirm we’ve received everything we requested. I highly appreciated that.

This bar is the place that I always seem to end up whenever visiting the area. It is averagely priced, the food menu is decent, and overall it’s a good solid place to go. I can’t say that I’ve ever had an amazing experience, or anything that warrants more then 3 stars, but it is consistently good and I guess that’s all you ever want from a bar.

This is a decent local bar that we go to sometimes before a show at the BMFI. The menu is pretty standard, soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers. The food is good, but nothing great. A great place to kill some time as their drink selection is reasonable, but service seems to hover around average at best. We will continue to come here for a drink or a snack before a movie, but I wouldn’t travel out of my way to come here for dinner.

This place used to be a solid Monday lunch location when they had their all-day $ 0.50 wings. Now it’s only after 8pm for the wing special. The only reason why I ever go to the Grog is for their all-day Monday wing special and now it’s gone. I won’t be returning to the Grog to delve into their otherwise mediocre menu. BRINGBACKGROGMONDAYS!

The Grog was the first bar that I stepped foot into when I moved to Bryn Mawr, and I was a steady customer since. The burgers are unreal, and the cozy atmosphere is a great spot to catch a game and or dinner. On snowy days its the most popular spot in town no matter what time of day… Be sure to ask for Megan at the bar, shes terrific.

If you like rude, surly waitresses, really bad food that makes you feel ill, and mice running around your feet as you eat, then this is the perfect place for you. Otherwise, DONOT eat here.

Have been on a little tour with my father in law in search of the best cheeseburger in the area. This waa our second stop out of seven and so far, in my opinion, nothing has come close. The burger is juicy and has tremendous flavor and the fresh cut fries(sans old bay) are outstanding. I have been there once more with dad and twice more with the family(and not dad) and they enjoy it as well. Have only eaten in the bar area and not seen the upstairs yet but I assume that is a little more kid friendly. Btw for those keeping score at home I personally have declared this place home of the best burger around but for dad search continues.

Love this place! The sliders were very tasty and really hit the spot. The nAchos had great flavorful and the best part they gave you enough chips to topping ratio which many people don’t do. This place is just great and worth a visit and I will defiantly be back!

Stopped for a late lunch — 3pm during the week so it was empty except for one man sitting at the bar. We sat at a table by the window and ordered a couple drinks while looking at the menu. Good items on a pretty extensive menu. Husband ordered the Guiness Stew — which he loves and it’s his go to food when at a pub. He loved it — I had a taste and it was really good. My go to food at a pub is usually Fish & Chips — which I ordered here and it looked like it was going to be good but it was disappointing — it was mostly batter and little fish. Tartar sauce was not offered — I had to ask for malt vinegar and the fries were dark and mushy. The cole slaw was a generous portion but it had no flavor and it was kind of dry. We may go back though only because there were so many items to try and the board showed lots of drink deals for different days of the week.

Such a shame This could be such an awesome place for pub friendly folks to hang out. Unfortunately it is a place where college kids get to act like the over privaledge idiots there parents have taught them to be. During our most recent visit(on quiz night) the bar staff were nice the beers good, the food also good, but the college kids(Chocolate Starfish) proceeded to try to to dominate the bar and cheat uding their cell phones all way through. The quiz master knew it, the bar staff knew it, everyone in the bar knew it but nothing was done. We’ll fair enough, but we shouldn’t reward them with prizes, oh opps! As if that wasn’t enough the college kids them tried to intimidate my wife and I as we were leaving, shouting abuse and trying to initiate an altacation. Which again the staff did nothing about. Unfortunately thus ended what was possibly a good experience in to a nightmare. I wouldn’t go back there if you paid me.

Good for big groups, and on game night – big TV’s. Service was friendly, but very slow, especially considering a big group wanted our table for the better TV. Food, overall, was very good. Service was accomodating – some people wanted to make a burger veggie instead of meat. My California wrap was very good, as were the fries. Highly recommend any of the burgers as well.

I’m very split on the Grog. Its very close to my house and gets a ton of good reviews by people I know. My first dinner at the grog was fantastic. The wrap I had was made perfectly. The manager was very attentive and the staff was great. The 2nd trip was on a monday night and i had the same wrap which was not good at all and the waitress was bleh but I decided to give it another shot on a busier night. I had dinner there with 3 friends the following Friday. The wrap I ordered was bad again and the french fries were not good. The rest of my table agreed the food seemed old at that shouldn’t be an issue at 8PM on a Friday night Because of the proximity to my house and the fact that my first trip was fantastic i am going to give the Grog another shot.

When we hit there it was Mid afternoon and we had missed the time for where we were trying to eat, so we rolled the chance and stepped into the long established Grog. While I currently am a teatotaller, the Bride and Joy availed herself of the bar and had a delightful Cosmo, which the bartender was careful to give her the entire drink holding the mixing tin aside until she was ready. We availed ourselves of the kitchens offerings and She had their Crock of French Onion soup which came enrobed in cheese with a wonderfully rich broth and perfectly toasted croûton of bread floated in it. I had their chicken pot pie with a perfect blend of vegetables and meat in a delightful white cream gravy, topped with a lovely layer of puff pastry on top. David the barman who served us, kept my water and iced tea topped up and was delightful to deal with. All in all, a delightful meal to thaw out to…

I stopped here with my boyfriend because we thought the name was hilarious and we were in the mood for a treat. We ordered the Artichoke & Crab Dip and it was fabulous. I scraped the bowl clean! Service, however, was very slow. This place is more of a bar than a restaurant, but we were there for over an hour just for one round of appetizers. I’d like to return here at night. The chalkboard near the bar showed some very good deals on drinks, and several musicians lined up for the weekend. Seems like a nice little spot if you’re not in a hurry.
