They charge you more than you should pay on food and the bar is way overpriced. The service is terrible and the food is nothing out of the ordinary, I’ve had better ceviches. Parking lot is awful and is just not a good place to party or eat.

Sea food Mexican Style. Awesome Micheladas and Chips and Salsa. The Seafood soup is very good. The service is friendly and professional and the prices are good. I would not recommend their Bar as the vibe feels kind of rough, but for lunch, its a WIN

No aaand no. I kept hearing all these great things about their great specials on drinks and how good they were, and kept seeing good looking photos of food on insta from this place, so me and a friend decided to try it out. Mind you, this was a year ago. As soon as I walked in, I noticed it was dead. I also thought the décor was bad and it felt super doom and gloom. Even the music they had on was pretty depressing. Not exactly something I wanted to experience after the last day of final exams. We sat down to look at the menu and noticed most dishes were a bit pricey. I decided to go with a shrimp cocktail since the picture looked delicious and huge, and well. I was starving. I just remember that I thought the price was reasonable for the size. Drinks… we heard of their mediocre $ 1 margaritas from word of mouth but the waiter said they weren’t available for another hour next door(the bar named La Palapa) Ok. I went with a Paloma instead. The bartender was a super old man who probably doesn’t even know how to make a paloma. it was pure tequila with like a splash of squirt. Usually that’s not such a bad thing. but this just had a really bad taste like lighter fluid or something. The waiter allowed me to exchange for another drink of the same price. I wanted a beer, something they can’t screw up(which was the same cost) but they told me they couldn’t allow it. I don’t remember if I got something else or not, I just remember not being pleased about my drink and just resorting to water. When the food arrived… My shrimp cocktail was tiny! In a completely different bowl than the one from their photo. I thought I had ordered the bigger portion but instead it looked like the personal cup. I figured they made a mistake and gave me the smaller portion. Fine. I was too hungry to argue. I tasted it and it was seriously just very whatever. Nothing tasty, not disgusting, but a bit bland. When the check arrived the tiny cocktail was $ 20! All in all I can say I had a $ 27 meal that was completely unenjoyable. So the hour had passed and decided to go next door to La Palapa(same owners and menu) for their $ 1 margaritas Let me just say that the crowd at that bar is bad. Ratchet ass hoes.(sorry for my words of choice but it’s the most suitable description) I’ve tried to give that place several chances, and every time I do I’m just amused by the other customers and have a good laugh. I usually end up walking out in shudders. I never went back to La Taverna to eat though. I didn’t think it was worth it.

Be careful, they will charge you more than you should pay. They advertise one price but they charge you another. It happened to me with the Cazuelas and Comales. I didn’t like the food, it was salty. Place is awful, no windows and horrible décor.

This place seems like a seafood mecca. The décor is pretty cool; makes you feel a bit like you are dining underwater. I ended up with some sort of seafood stuffed pepper entrée which the waiter recommended. It was good, not great. The chips and salsa for the table were very delish. I think my fav part of the meal was the free appetizer soup they brought out. It was very flavorful and rich. It was evident that the soup simmered with various seafood for a long time. The service was good also.

As soon as we got there, I could smell a delicious fried fish aroma. The place is nice and it makes you feel in a marisqueria in Mexico. Awesome customer service. The waiter knew the menu and made suggestions. Food was very tasty. I just loved the fish broth that is served before the first course. I ordered huachinango al Chipotle which was great. I prefer salad instead of boiled veggies though. My husband ordered fish tacos abd and they were good with a home style flavor. We are going back again soon!

What a disappointment. We went to La Taverna this evening. My daughters ordered separate dishes. The waiter asked if they wanted just fish or fish and shrimp. They ordered their dishes with both. When the bill came the prices of their dishes were doubled! The waiter never said there was an additional charge. So we spoke with the manager, who had hovered over us our entire meal, offering to get us what we needed. I explained the situation and he said there was a problem with the menu and they were fixing it. And the waiters don’t know English. Neither of those are a satisfactory explanation in my mind. Then he offered 10% off our next meal there. Not helpful. 4 meals, almost $ 100. For ok food. Avoid — or get a written estimate when you order!

I ve been here a couple of times and the food is fantastic! The prices are good and not exaggerated like other seafood places! They also offer pay per view events for $ 10 a pop! I highly recommend it!

Great service! Sea food galore any kind of sea food cooked to your liking. I love the cielo mar y tiera… consists of fajita, chicken, shrimp, and cheese. I cannot gve it a 5 star because they do not have filtered water and a kids sprite costs you $ 2.80! Other than that the prices are reasonable and your kids will enjoy the environment.

Friendly service; fresh, well prepared seafood in a Mexican style. The interior has a bit of an outdoor bar feel, and the menu is fully bilingual.

The best seafood in Brownsville. Don’t need to drive to SPI anymore. The salsa and chips are just the tip of the iceberg!

I was not sure what to expect from this place, but I drive past it daily, so I decided to give it a try for lunch with one of my co-workers. The menu was extensive and full of seafood cooked in every way imaginable. Veracruz, mojo de ajo, whole snapper, stuffed shrimp, marlin enchiladas, oyster shooters, shrimp tacos… I think you could probably get it fried too, but with so many other delicious options, why would you? We were pleasantly surprised by everything we ate here! The seafood soup to start was excellent. I ordered the shrimp cocktail for my meal — seasoned perfectly and FULL of shrimp. My co-worker ordered what looked like shrimp quesadillas. They were delicious. This place has gone to the top of our list for lunch options.
