I have thick wavy /curly hair. My haircuts tend to be either«ooh girl you look good» or «meh, kind of nothing, it’s just hair, no style » there is not a lot of in between– I feel like curly girls know what I mean. So based on other(good) reviews I asked for Tommy. I went in and asked for long rocker layers, no big deal, right? He assured me he knew how to handle it so I trusted him. I live in the hood, tip well, and am not an asshole, so there was no reasons for him to treat me badly, in fact I told him I was shopping for stylist I could trust, so he had every incentive to try to win me over and get repeat business with me. He took 15 minutes to cut my hair with thinning scissors, which is not great on thick hair at all — and it was BAD. like chunky bad layers, shelfy badness. It looked great with the straight blowout and, to be fair, he did a great blowout but when I washed it curly it was terrible. I can’t use this to excuse him, as he is an experienced stylist and knows texture., Two days later I called back and asked for a correction. They asked if I wanted a different stylist but I said I’d try Tommy again since he was affable enough and I felt bad. I went back in and he said«Oh yeah the layers aren’t working». He was very nice –p and then did another 10 mins, which brought the haircut up a notch from shitty to rather crappy. I gave up and left feeling like a bad humiliated soccer mom. Really, I get it, you don’t want to fuck me, no problem, but as a haircutter at least try to pretend to get it up for my hair, it is your job to try to make me look good, if you are taking my hundred bucks. I wound up getting my haircut corrected AGAIN by my genus Columbian pal/stylist who charges 25 bucks in her kitchen. I would have gone to her but she is only in town rarely. No I look like badass Loretta Lynn and I feel like a million bucks– not not from my VERYLACKLUSTERANDAPATHETIC Woodley and Bunny but from someone who CARES.

Sad, but true. W & B is closed for good as of this week.

I’ve been going to this place since it opened. It can be the best or the worst depending on the stylist. The turnover is so fast that it’s often hard to get the same person more than two or three times. If you’re looking for something very specific, they can put you with a stylist that does that best. If you’re looking for a salon, move on. I got a bad one last time. I called to see if I could come back and get it fixed, but because they are so busy they couldn’t arrange for someone to fix it. Being a long term customer didn’t matter — the front desk turn over is so frequent that they’re new every time I go. Adrian is by far the best stylist they have. He only works on Saturdays — if you can get him it’s like a $ 500 haircut for around $ 100.

I love the aesthetic of this salon; chic and simple. The apothecary at the very front of the salon offers a multitude of really nice beauty products that are interesting and unique. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. Tommy was the stylist that cut my hair and he did a swell job. The cut was a simple one, but was exactly what I needed to bring my hair back to life!

F*ck this place. For real. I wish i could give no stars but you CAN“T I had planned not to even bother reviewing this place since my horrible experience was back in December and I figured that in time, my hair would grow out and be fine. Not so. A week before the holidays I was unfortunate enough to make an appointment with Tommy, who the receptionist assured me over the phone, was«awesome.» Awesome at wearing sleeveless shirts in the dead of winter and taking a bored, passive approach to his job, perhaps, but in terms of the actual task for which he is being paid, a more useless stylist has never walked the earth. After discussing the length I wanted(no shorter than my collarbones!) and doing the old hair-fold over technique to ascertain what it might look like, «Tommy» set to work, whipping his razor across the back of my hair. After the first cut, I felt a draft on my neck – a draft indicating that it was way, way too short. «That feels way too short.» I said «Um, it’s not that short. Relax.» Tommy said, not even looking at me. He continued to work and I wrote some work emails on my phone. I glanced up again several minutes later to see that the left side of my hair had been shorn to about 2 inches or so below my chin, a full 3 inches shorter than what I called the absolute shortest I wanted to go. I tried to keep calm. «Okay, I’m sorry, but I’m going to stop you because this is way, way shorter than we talked about.» «It’s really not that short, and I’m not done yet» Tommy replied, annoyed. When he finally finished we beheld a head of hair about 4 inches shorter than the agreed upon length and cut in the kinds of terrible layers that would best befit a woman reading for the part of «bowling alley junkie» in a Lifetime movie. Angrily, I expressed that he had NOT done what I had asked, had ruined my hair right before the holidays, and was utterly unapologetic. He disagreed, claiming that it «wasn’t that short». We argued about it until I was on the brink of tears, at which point he finally acquiesced, «yeah, okay, I guess its a little shorter than we agreed upon. But, like, I do 10 of these a day, and at the end of the day, it’s like a couple inches here or there don’t really make that much difference to me, sorry.» I mentioned that perhaps it might be a good idea to refrain from mentioning that out loud in the future. «Like, I’m sorry, you don’t like it, but like, I really don’t think it’s that bad» was his response. I pointed out that he wasn’t the one who had to walk around looking like this. «I guess», was his wise reply. «Is there anything I can do?» he asked, staring at his phone, as I tried to collect myself and prepared to leave. Short of having a time machine in the back, there seemed to be few options, so Tommy shrugged, smiled sheepishly and charged me full price. A month later, the haircut has grown out so poorly that when I asked an acquaintance who cuts hair at a salon in Los Angeles for an honest opinion, he said it looked like it had been done by «a five year old». Tommy did not take my thick hair into account when cutting it, and the unfortunate layers he choose to include cause my hair to poof out at the bottom, creating an unfortunate resemblance to the mushroom character from Super Mario Bros. More than the bad haircut and the blatant disregard for my requests, I was absolutely appalled by Tommy’s smug, bored, indifferent-jackass attitude to the garbage haircut he gave me and for which he had seemingly no qualms about charging me 100 American dollars. A call to the manager to complain was met with an offer of a credit to the«apothecary»(which is what they’ve chosen to call the room in the front where they sell hair products). I was instructed to call again to make sure a manager would be there when I came to shop and my call was never returned. This place is complete garbage. Better bet? Have a blind friend cut your hair with a pair of dull knives.

A Williamsburg staple that has become an international force… In identifying the best beauty and skin products you’ve(likely) never heard about, the quality control is second-to-none; the Anderson sisters are doing something unique, innovative and, frankly, necessary. What they’ve culled from the farthest reaches of the earth is, without question, the most enviable stuff your bathroom has yet-to-see. Highlights? Anything by BRAD, Cosmetics 27’s Bio Fluid, and Verso’s Super Facial Serum – Best. Retinol. Ever. Downside? It’s getting a bit cramped – W&B needs more space(and they deserve an expansion). Bottom-line: Suck it, Sephora. You may be the beauty ‘Goliath’ but we all know that David eventually wins, right?

I can only speak on one stylist here, Elisabeth, but she is — without a doubt — the best stylist I’ve ever been to. She takes her time and really wants to ensure you’re happy before you leave. My hair always looks great when I leave, but best of all is that it grows out nicely. That, to me, is what counts. She’s a great conversationalist as well and just a sweet person overall. I can’t recommend her enough. Sure, W&B is pricey, so it’s not for everyone. But it’s an upscale salon and, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Recommended.

I’m very particular about who touches my hair because I like to keep it long & healthy looking. My friend recommended that I take up an appointment with Jen because she specializes in long hair when it comes to giving haircuts. I walked away feeling happier than ever. Jen was amazing, she took her time, showed me everything she was doing before she did it, & gave me a fresh new style without taking off too much length. This is my new Go-to salon!

Let me tell you a little story. I am from the Midwest and everyone I get haircuts from had always given me cutesy hairdos based on my friendly personality and fine wavy curly poufy hair — we’re talking like, «I call this ‘The Weathergirl!’» type of haircuts. I mean, I value the semi-southern hospitality thing I have going, but that does NOT mean I want to look like the evil sorority girl from every 80s movie for my life. There’s more to life than being typecast by hairstylists who don’t even know you and your inner bad-ass needs. Well along comes a few days before Christmas, I’m still in town, and I figure, hey, I’ll email Woodley and bunny bc someone has yet again given me peekaboo flouncy bangs and stupid stupid layers that make my head look like a failed Rachel-cut experiment. Boom, email back in 2 minutes and I’m going in to see JENNIPHER(remember that name because its owner works *mAgiC*) the next day. Jennipher is wonderful, she’s lived in humid climates(my hair’s preferred habitat) and NYC(weirdest climate ever) and she’s lived in Southern world and in Williamsburg world so she can speak to that… and man — she gets it. I don’t know how, but she understood my strange hair communications and gave me exactly what I wanted — get rid of the useless stringy bits(anyone else ever get break-up hair? like you’re heart’s so broken it destroys your hair? well yeah it happens. I was 3 years out of that and let me tell you, the ends of my hair were a useless heartbroken mess), remedy the random flouncy bangs(she understands how to use your own hair to make the misbehavin’ hair behave) and assured me «I do not do cutesy». End result — hairstylist soulmate. In short, Jennipher(and the crazy algae conditioning treatment I got) is the bomb and worth every penny, Woodley and Bunny’s atmosphere makes you feel like, hey, I’m spending money on beauty and it will pay off when Tina Fey sees my hair and asks me where I got it cut and then Jennipher cuts her hair and we all become friends. Something like that. What are you doing? EMAILTHEM!(ask for Jennipher… ESPECIALLY if you have fluffy fine wavy/curly western european hair that loves humidity and hates NY water and steam heat).

I was nervous about going here for a hair cut since some Unilocalers had warned that it was bad, unfortunately I decided to take a gamble since it’s right around the corner from here I live. I’ll summarize by saying that I currently have probably the worst hair cut I’ve ever had, and that’s saying something considering I went to an all boys boarding school and had no reason to ever keep my hair in check growing up. The service was shoddy and the stylist appeared to be confused when I asked to put on a robe(so I wouldn’t get hair all over my t-shirt). In the end she didn’t give me a robe and I had to keep my t-shirt on. The price of my hair cut was $ 70, which isn’t cheap but I’ve paid that amount before for a quality experience. There is no way this place is worth that expense. I had Brooke for my stylist and I normally don’t name names but for $ 70 I’d expect a much better job. Now that my hair has been growing back for a week you can easily see how mis-shaped the final product was. You may be thinking that the interior of this place looks upscale and that it’s worth a shot but be warned, I’m guessing you’ll end up writing on a 1 star review later(unless you’re just buying shampoo or something).

It has been about five months since my haircut with Sasha and I am only barely recovering from hair trauma caused by her inept hands. Maybe she was having a bad day, but all I can say is that she did not make me look good; she took an excellent haircut which I wanted trimmed and did things to it that made me unable to wear my hair without a ton of hairspray to look halfway decent. My bangs completely destroyed. I went to another stylist to get it all corrected about three weeks later, and after examining my head he asked incredulously ‘who cut your hair?’ – probably thinking i did it myself… while drunk… using my left hand. Up to this point I’ve been a loyal Woodley and Bunny customer for over 7 years, and although their staff tends to have a ‘too cool for school’ attitude I loved the cuts and styling I received. But when my usual stylist relocated and I went to Sasha, they lost my patronage once and for all . Go there with caution!

Go to Jenipher(sp?) for the ultra feminine, soft layered, traditional but sweetheart look. I admit, I was looking for something a bit more edgy. BUT, I went in there giving her creative charge and the only criteria she needed to meet was that I wanted to wash my hair and go. I didn’t want to do any styling or daily maintenance to my hair to make it look good. I wanted it to look good soon as it dried – naturally. Expectations met. At first, I thought to myself – «So — did she totally just give me the cut I usually get? Ugh.» But no – no she didn’t. She totally listened to everything I said. She totally gave me a cut that I can just wash and go with. If I wanted to style it I could. If I didn’t, I didn’t have to. It was perfect. I washed my hair as soon as I got home(and left it with the awesome leave in conditioner I had bought from the salon. I can’t help it. It smelled good.) It dried and it looked good. I will be back. She gave life to my hair. My very LONG hair. She made it all cute and wearable and light. Highly recommended. You want someone to listen – go to these people. They are gold. Wash, cut, style, leave in conditioner, and tolerating excess tardiness(thank you L Train for that), all for $ 120 – tax and tip included. Not bad W&B. Not bad.
