What we really need in Red Hook, along side the inaccessible galleries and private Manhattanite parties, are more destination artisan shops for Park Slopers to drive to in their Honda Ravs. Wooden Sleepers doesn’t disappoint. You’re greeted with an all too familiar avant-garde of questionable taste; the store front is currently styled as a WWII field hospital — no, really — perhaps to remind you that war really isn’t fun, although it can still be cool. Once inside, you might warm to Brian who is a really nice guy, and you may even buy something — the jackets are very nice indeed, and the spartan style manages to make you feel there is a lot of choice, but you’re always drawn to the main lines. Despite my instinct to be sniffy about this place and its contributing to Red Hook’s latest role as a green screen to post-hipster cool, there is something deeply alluring about its innards. Worth a visit — even if you’re from Park Slope. Just come here on a bike…

Charming shop with lots of slick wares and good quality vintage rags. The owner(Brian) is super cool, too.

The selection of clothes here is so good that I actually found it difficult to look through because I wanted to buy everything that was in there. It’s a problem. My recommendation would be to carry worse stuff. This place is amazing. Brian and Maurice are amazing people as well. I felt really comfortable in the store and they knew a ton about all the garments.
