My husband and I got wind of Halcyon and Maria and Co. through the owner of our favorite restaurant here in the city. One bite of her sandwiches had us sold and we hired Maria and Co. to cater our wedding at the Foundry in November of 2014, as well as the welcome party the night before. Working with Maria couldn’t have been more pleasant. She was upbeat and enthusiastic, open to our ideas, including re-creating a Filipino dish for the event in order to customize our menu. The food was wonderful – for both nights. We got a lot compliments afterward. It’s a year later and people still rave about the cauliflower soup Maria created for the first course, as well as the variety and deliciousness of all the hors d’oeuvres. I also want to give kudos to Maria for whom she hired as her waitstaff. They were professional and accommodating. We decided at the last minute to do a whiskey bar on the terrace and whoever staffed it knew her Scotch and was a memorable hit with the guests.

Hidden salad and sandwich gem right in the middle of Greenpoint. I’ve probably walked by this place dozens of times and didn’t realize it was there until my friend brought me there for lunch. Halcyon is a catering operation, but they also open their doors to the public for(mostly) takeout lunch. There is a small counter with some stools, but why not take your lunch over to Transmitter Park instead? The menu offers soup, salads, sandwiches, and a few sweet options(cookies and brownies). Any of the sandwiches can be made as a salad. Fare is a little bit on the pricier side. Most of the sandwiches or salads with meat will run you around $ 10-$ 12. Veggie friendly options start at around $ 5-$ 7. I got the Halcyon Greens(arugula, romaine, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, balsamic vinaigrette) with grilled shrimp. The shrimp were great, comparable to how they prepare it at Brooklyn Label. The salad itself was pretty standard. For $ 12 I guess I’d expect some additional ingredients(maybe figs or blue cheese), but it was a pretty good salad. The curry chicken salad sounds pretty good, so I may try that next time. If you’ve tapped everything in the area for lunch options, give Halcyon a try!

I have a such special place in my heart for this place. You can’t go wrong with any of the soups, salads or sandwiches they offer — I’ve eaten probably everything on the menu and have never been disappointed! The Italian wedding soup literally got me through this awful winter. Also, even though there’s no eat in option, I’m always greeted with a smile and made to feel like family for the brief time I’m in the shop. Never leave Greenpoint!

I don’t write a lot of reviews but after seeing one past review for this restaurant I couldn’t help but respond. Our employees collectively order five days a week and as a business have them cater for three major events per year with nothing but praise and delight with their service staff and food. We have never had a problem with them calling back or giving us prompt service. To the past reviewer I would suggest that they check the number and dial again.

Had a production catered and used Halcyon. I can’t even begin to say how delighted my crew was(as well as me) with the quality and taste of the food. We had a breakfast and lunch catered and everything was incredible. Chef Maris is so helpful and her menu is really delicious.(I recommend the Israeli cous cous and the tuna sandwich). Both were incredible. I will recommend this company to anyone who needs a caterer in Brooklyn or just a place to get a really great sandwich. Thank you Maria and Samson!!! Amazing experience

A friend used Halcyon Gourmet for an event and they said, for the price, even though they weren’t perfect, they weren’t that bad. I called, and called, and called, leaving messages for the owner Maria, and 3 weeks later, I have not gotten a call back. So, if you a company who is cheap but yet can’t call back prospective clients, use Halcyon. If you care about your event going well, call Mary Giuliani. You get what you pay for.

Maria and her staff are folks you are lucky to have in your rolodex. Her food is a representation of her dedication to hospitality and delighting everyone around her with her warmth, vision, phenomenal food, and service. The Halcyon team continually surprised me with how scrumptious their food for me and my events. Small and large groups have the same attention to detail and culinary artistry, with everyone really loving the food and going back for more at each party/event. They are great partner, reliable, and great value.

This rating is for a dine in option. I’d give more stars if it had more places to sit but they had a huge clean kitchen and are more of a catering, delivery?, and take to go place with no AC and 3 stools to eat in at a High counter and a single long bench outside. Definitely professionals that care about the food & Yummy! I loved the chicken curry salad Sammy — it was better then my version.

The grilled shrimp salad is yummy! Hard to find and not a place for long lunch breaks but the food is divine.

I order delivery from here all the time. The staff is always friendly and competent, punctual delivery and the food is delicious! Go for the Chowder or Hippy Chickpea salad.

I love Halcyon. I order lunch for my office in Greenpoint and have been doing so for about a year and a half now. Needless to say a lot of the places we order from get old after a while but Halcyon has remained a constant in our lunch rotation since the beginning. Though the menu seems small I could happily order anything they have. I really really like this place. If I ever need catering they are my go to.

Psst, Halcyon… You’re my back alley crush. My dream of a neighborhood full of side street food joints with integrity starts with you. Your quality ingredients, attention to detail, friendly service, and personable staff makes me feel like I’m stopping by a friends house and grabbing a sammy on my way back to work. And don’t get me started on the ice-cream sandwich! I just couldn’t keep you all to myself any longer.

I can not say enough great things about the Halcyon Gourmet. I called them a week before my event and they were able to accommodate an incredible spread for 80 people. Maria was so helpful putting the menu together and gave me advice about non food related issues for the party as well which were very helpful. She also catered to me and the party. It wasn’t a cookie cutter spread. The food was amazing! I heard people say it was the best catered food they have ever had. I agree. Everything was fresh and tasty. The whole staff was a real joy to work with. Everyone was kind, efficient and hard working. At the end of the night, Maria even gave me ideas and tips on what to do with the leftovers. All in all The Halcyon Gourmet really made our event special. They are very reasonable cost wise but the quality of the food and service is very high end. I will definitely be using them again in the future.

I hired Halcyon for an event for the first time last night, and I can tell you, these people are freaks! In the best way! The service staff was awesome-attractive, engaging, always right where you need them to be doing what you want them to be doing, namely politely serving AMAZING food. And that’s the real point of hiring a caterer, right? Kick-ass food? This was an event in a retail store and I’m amazed at what they produced out of a makeshift space in the breakroom. I had guests clutching my arm, RAVING about the food. I am currently feasting on leftovers and I’m very excited that I’ve found my new go-to catering company. Their tagline is «Where food is love» and it’s totally true. Maria and her crew knocked it out of the park and made my look like a total rockstar in the process!

I like this little joint. I love their little chicken curry sandwich. I appreciate their very friendly staff. I wouldn’t mind if the little sandwiches were just a slight bit less pricey, which I justify by saying they’re not made to order, they’re coming from a fridge. You wouldn’t know Halcyon’s there if you didn’t know it was there — even the shop’s sign is taken down outside of business hours. Their primary business is catering, not retail, so I’m OK with such a practice. Look for it next time you’re walking around the neighborhood. Or even better, look for it for lunch on a Friday after you’ve just hit Acme for a fishy feast.

I’m generally a cynical New Yorker. So after hearing some really rave reviews about this place from friends who have used them for catering, I had to check it out. I was floored by the smart flavor combinations and original items. This isn’t your average lunch stop. The storefront is newly opened; but had all the charm of visiting your friendly neighbor’s kitchen. The adorable looking façade is next to a cute coffee shop named Cup.(Coffee after lunch? Yes please!) During my 25 minutes sitting at their quaint outdoor table on a hot sumer day, a number of locals popped in just to chat with the owners of this brilliant addition to the neighborhood. They all walked out with a bag full of a little bit of everything. How could you not? I had a hard time deciding what to eat. The hesitation must have shown on my face. The lovely Chef /Owner, Maria happily gave me a tour of their offerings… with taster bites!!! She is a real charmer. I could hang here all day! I had the Chicken Cutlet Sandwich. It had roasted red peppers, broccoli rabe and an aioli that was so good I couldn’t tell if it was dripping from the corners of my mouth or I was simply drooling. The Savory Roll Of The Day was Sausage and Broccoli Rabe. It was so good, I got another one to go! It’s a good thing I was there with friends because I got to try their food too! The Roasted Veggie Sandwich on Cibatta was fresh and assembled with care. If there’s one thing that annoys me it’s when a sandwich is just thrown together. Not here. The attention to detail was not lost on me. The Beet Salad and Cous Cous Salad were super refreshing on this hazy hot & humid day. Perfectly seasoned with smart ingredients. The Pork Salad blew me away. Perfectly cooked bites of pork with bacon, and a hit of cheddar I think… Again, I got another serving to go!!! Halcyon lives up to it’s name… relaxing… comforting… This is a must try establishment. Go once and you will be back soon.
