Sushi Mikasa

I don’t usually rate places but this is a real experience of kitchen nightmares, my shrimp tempura roll was soaked in oil and don’t get me wrong I’ve been in sushi places around NYC before. The rice is really oily and my California roll which had crab sticks inside reminded me of cheap crab sticks that i buy at Chinese fish store which were frozen for years before. Overall once we entered there was no host, the waiter told us to sit anywhere but we were not given any menus, i had to ask for it after 10 mins.

Overpriced and the California Rolls suck. I will continue to go to my favorite sushi restaurant on ave Z.

Place is great. On par or better than its city counterparts. I.E. SEKI or Gari. Bear in mind you must sit at the counter with Kevin. Superb fish quality and a very nice atmosphere. A bit on the pricey side but no more than what you would pay anywhere else for sushi this caliber.

The service here is phenomenal! All of the staff is super friendly and give great suggestions on what to order! I came in and didn’t know what to order and the staff guided me in the right direction and I was extremely impressed with the taste and quality of the food! I recommend this restaurant for everyone who is a sushi connoisseur and willing to spend for good quality food!

Premium sushi in Brooklyn. No one in Midwood has this quality and selection of fish. A must try! It’s pricey but it’s worth it if when enjoy quality sushi and not your basic California rolls and rolls doused in sauce and spicy mayo. I’m a fan!!! See you soon

Lol only Russian people are foolish enough to pay three to four times the price of sushi around the area to look cool. This place is for all of the south Brooklyn Russian folk who just want to stunt in their Benzs in front of themselves while living in project housing or the Luna park apts. nothing special deff a rip off and skimp as hell. Brooklyn has tons of great sushi spots, don’t look cool. Look smart and go somewhere else.

do not go to eat sushi here, this place is a joke, when I ask what are your Chef’s specialties, the waiter told us that they have «Manhattan» style sushi, different from Brooklyn, that should tell you enough.

Can’t make online reservations. Got there the place was empty and they wouldn’t seat us. To get turned down by a small time place like this means we won’t try again. So many better sushi places in the area. Try Mitoushi in sheepshead bay.

A great addition to Brooklyn for quality sushi without having to go to the city. The place is small and may get packed at times but the fish is amazing and fresh. Its a sceney community restaurant your bound to run into someone you know. And also it is a bit pricey (city prices for brooklyn food)
Definitely be sure to order the maruga avocado salad and the tuna salad for starters. The sea bass skewers, tuna tacos and miso cod lettuce wraps are my favorite things on the menu.
DON’T ORDER ROLLS — get the special pieces. Seared King Salmon, Salmon Seared Tomato, yellowtail Jalapeño and kachapi, o-​toro (or any toro at that) You wont be disappointed,

So overrated. I’d rather take the trip into the city for real good sushi– for the prices paid here.
FYI– truffle oil doesn’t make everything better.
And the waitstaff is either inattentive or pushy.

Always Good — yes its pricey but you get what you pay for!

The food is a bit pretentious but not bad. Service is terrible. Atmosphere is made for owner and his kids. Tiny, loud and not cozy at all. Disappointed.

Sushi are OK there, buy do they think they’re a Michelin star restaurant to charge what they’re charging? $ 7 rolls, $ 10 kani salad, $ 4 sushimi? With sushi restaurants on almost every block, not worth it.

The sushi is good but not great, the sushi is only reasonably fresh, and the prices are ridiculous! I spent nearly $ 100 and was so hungry afterwards I walked to McDonald’s.
This is a place where you come to be seen, not for the food. Friday and Saturday nights there are Bentelys, Range Rovers, Porches, endless MB S-​classes and the occasional Ferrari parked out front. It’s just schmooze fest. If you’re not into the Russian look-​at-​me scene, you’re much better off at the numerous other sushi joints in the neighborhood.

After reading some of the reviews here, I just wanted to clarify a few things. This is hands down the best sushi spot currently in Brooklyn (as of January 2014). With regards to price — yes it’s not cheap. But let’s be real here, you pay for what you get. The fish is super fresh and I personally have no problem paying for quality. If you are looking for a 50 dollar dinner for two, this isn’t the place. I’m not sure why people feel that Brooklyn can’t charge these prices. Isn’t quality that matters and not location?
The portions are small but they are full of flavor. This isn’t a place to come to and order the dragon roll as that’s not what separates Mikasa from the other spots. Their sushi menu is what keeps the apart. We had their tomato salmon, toro, and yellow jalapeño sushi. All are highly recommended.
They have amazing salads. My fiancé and I had the tuna and avocado salad as well as the snow pea salad. Both are highly recommended.
Lastly, for desert we shared the Lady M cake. They have several flavors and you can’t go wrong with this cake.
If you have a craving for quality sushi and don’t feel like traveling to the city, then this place is for you.
I would recommend this to any of my friends. The price was beyond reasonable. Our entire dinner with tip and two bottles of wine came out to $ 230.

I’m torn about my review about this place. It clearly innovative and unique, as far as sushi goes. The dishes are not your typical gyoza, eel avacado roll, and green tea ice cream selection (although they have that too). The food is excellent but the dishes are all small and VERY overpriced. I had the snow pea salad, the spicy tuna on crispy rice, the sea bass skewers, and finally the strawberry crêpe cake. Everything was great!!!
If you need a sushi fix, I would say go elsewhere but if you just got paid and are looking for a unique delicious meal of creative small plates, come here.

Sushi Mikasa blew my mind &(yes my wallet too). I discovered this place through my Twitter where some high level people travel to what was once long ago my hood. I remember this spot being a dive bar with working ladies many moons ago.

Soup was unremarkable and tofu was mushy. Salad dressing– ginger/​onion was outstanding. I am big on this stuff and it was one of the tops. The spicy tuna over rice was delectable so mildly spiced– happy just writing about it. The yellowtail was also delectable. Urchin was a tad funky for me otherwise, the sushi was a standout.
There were three other groups of diners here. The place has smoked windows like many Russian spots around here and I am guessing that that is their customer base. On such a nice day it would have been nice to open the doors on this corner spot.
The service was very knowledgable. Charging $ 1 for extra dressing is ingracious at this pricepoint. There is no value here foodwise, Chef Kevin has bucked a major restaurant trend where successful spots depend on the value they offer in this ecomomy. Yes this is outer Brooklyn, but Chef Kevin definitely has quite a following in these parts and far beyond… For food of this caliber you either have it and want to spend it or you don’t.
