Superb Brunch. Oh my, the average rating for this restaurant seems to be on a downward slide. Either way, I must say that I had a wonderful experience at Rothschild’s and it’s a must-go of Brooklyn brunch spots. My friend and I wondered in at Rothschild’s at the perfect time. It was 10:30am on a Sunday and only one other table was occupied. Within an hour, every table was full with onlookers hungrily waiting for tables to empty. The seating appeared to be happenstance, so I’m not sure if making a reservation would help much. So the food. I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty my party’s entrees were. We had the Gumbo, Seafood Benedict and the Banana Pancakes. The Gumbo was flavorful, with a nice weighty texture. It’s stock-full of scallops, shrimp, crawfish, etc. It’s the right amount of kick and flavor. The Seafood Benedict was similarly satisfying. It is your standard eggs benedict, but served on what looks like Texas toast(but not toasted), with lumb crab meat, with diced peppers and maybe onions. The hollandaise seemed to have some type of Cajun seasoning. The Seafood Benedict comes with a side of sauced home fries, tossed with rock shrimp — a great addition. It certainly a great dish, but my one critique is the bread. It gets soggy almost immediately and something a little more hearty would be a great adjustment. Lastly, the Banana Pancakes were yummy. The bananas are sliced the long way and placed on top of the stack. The pancakes themselves are a moderate weight, not too light nor heavy. The syrup is on the sweet side, but compliments the banana and pancakes quite well. Overall, I highly recommend Rothschild’s!

I finally got around to exploring brunch places beyond the Cobble Hill boundary lines and so far so good. With so many new places around Atlantic like Rothschild’s there’s no reason to ever wait in a 30 minute line on Smith street again. The space at Rothschild’s is small but well used and the food is delicious. Aside from the usual egg brunch dishes they offer a unique dessert: Beignets. Sugary, hot and delicious. On Sundays a jazz band starts playing on the second floor at 1pm. So if you like jazz show up then, if you like a quieter brunch come earlier. The restaurant is baby friendly(a minus for some) and while I don’t have a baby if I ever plan on seeing my friends who do have one, a restaurant like this is a must. The service was good and the prices are standard. I’d definitely return to try dinner. I hear they have amazing burgers.

This establishment has changed names from Stans place but the food has not changed. Like everything else they are adapting to the trendy transition neighborhood. The food is great especially the brunch on saturday and sunday. A must try dish is the hominy grits and catfish. A complete dining experience would not be complete if you did not order a side dish(or maybe two) of the beignets! Finally for those of you who want to spice up your sat/sun brunch Rothschilds makes a mean cajun bloody mary! Enjoy.

Yet another NOLA spot that pales in comparison to the real thing. At least they have Abita beer! The rib appetizer was good but my fish dish was nothing to write home about and didn’t seem worth the $.

We bumped into the place on accident, later at night, on a late December Friday, All we wanted was a place to sit, unwind and have an adult beverage but it seemed like there were no other options in the vicinity… our previous 3 choices were booked with holiday parties. But their neon sign beckoned like the North Star. It’s a handsome place, though initially I had no idea if it was more a drinking place with food or an eating place with drinks. And I’m still not sure of their identify. But it fit our need, offering wines and beer. And my date also got some tea, whose options were presented table-side in a wooden case. Classy(though not stuffy or formal). Now that I’m posting and see other reviews, I’ll have to venture back and try some food. This review is for those of you wandering Atlantic Ave, looking for a decent place to rest the legs in a laid back but well manicured space.

Boyfriend and I recently tried this place out for brunch, as a means to satisfy my never-wavering need for grits & eggs on a Sunday morning. We started with beignets, and while they were good, I wished they had some kind of fruit filling or maybe some raspberry compote or something? Regardless, I like that they had the equivalent of an appetizer for brunch. Anyway, food was yum, service was good, and the décor of the place is very inviting. In nice weather, they open up the big front windows to let in sunshine and fresh air. It’s a classy place without being snobby. Seems like a great place for a date. Keep in mind though, bar serves beer & wine only. When getting a bloody mary, I think it comes with sake in it instead of vodka. Still good though!

We stopped in here for a late lunch after a day of exploring Brooklyn. I think it was at about 3 pm, and they were still serving their brunch menu. There were only two other tables occupied when we arrived, and both were nearing the ends of their meals. A server came over to us right away and took drink orders, but also took the opportunity to tell us the long list of items that they were«sold out of» that day. I hoped that that meant they’d been so busy throughout the morning rush, that they were sold out. We made up our minds quickly about what we wanted from the now-limited menu, but waited for ages for the server to return for our orders. My Mom asked for milk to go with her tea, but had the server visit the table numerous times before bringing the milk. My husband wanted to know which beers on the menu were local brews, and the waitress seemed unsure, and brought him a bottle when he’d requested a local draft. The service was lacking, and the atmosphere, while it initially seemed cool and trendy, started to feel just lonely and tired. My impressions changed throughout the meal. The food itself was enjoyable enough(I had the Huevos Rancheros; others in my group had the daily soup, the Apple & Goat Cheese salad, the Shrimp Po’boy, and the Low Country Breakfast). But this was all overshadowed to me, by the subpar experience. The place has potential, they are just not taking advantage of it.

Excellent weekend brunch restaurant. There’s live music, the food is amazing and waiters are friendly. The manager is often around to make sure everything is running smoothly. I was so impressed I went 2x in one weekend. Instant favorite.

Rothchild’s is where I go after a long day at work when I just need to «talk it out» over a glass of wine. The menu is simple but well-rounded and I can’t say I’ve ever had a bad meal(I think they use a lot of butter in everything… yum). The ambiance is great but sometimes the Atlantic noise can be a distraction. At times, Rothchild’s seems too dark and depressing so I just keep walking. The best meal I ever had at this place was brunch a few weeks ago. The Huevos Rancheros was amazing and on that particular day they had live jazz. Really fun on a nice sunny Sunday morning!

Went to Rothschilds for a celebratory dinner. The venue is very small. Our party took over most of the space. There were three servers. One was responsible for our party of 25. That being said. Service was poor. Everything was slow. Though our server tried some TLC, it came across as slow & unneeded. Food Food wasn’t good. The plate would be hot but the food is lukewarm. Several ppl ordered the catfish & sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes were horrible. Not a good idea to toss them in barbecue sauce. I ordered the fried chicken. It was a little better but not much. Cute spot but the service & phone were lacking. I would not go back.

A customer that frequents the café I work at, told me to stop by this restaurant. My sister and I decide sure why not, we were gonna spend the evening at the tea lounge, so why not stop for some food before heading to Park Slope. This place is magical, it makes you feel like you were whisked away to another time, it was peaceful and comfortable. Upscale but with jeans and sneakers. It basically shouted come in, make yourself at home. Yet it can be romantic. They have a lounge area upstairs and a clean bathroom. Yes I am those customers who judge bathrooms, hey I am a girl. Now the important part. Food I tried the seafood gumbo, I asked for the crawfish tails to be removed because I had a crawfish as a pet in 3rd grade. They said no problem since everything is fresh and the seafood in tossed into the soup at the end. Love it yay! No pre-made frozen soup here, good stuff! That gumbo was awesome, it was spicy’ rich and I wanted to lick my plate. The cornbread was yummy. The grits that my sister ordered was good, and I don’t like grits, but I ate all of it, and then the burger. The Yummy Burger, man my sister had the burger and I took half. Talk about being a fat piglet yesterday. That burger was so yummy. I had to order one to go for the boyfriend. This was a great place, they will be seeing me again. I almost forgot. You can’t forget customer service. That was really nice. The young lady with the European accent was sweet and knew the menu. I can’t stand when I go somewhere and ask for recommendations, and you meet clueless staff. she was friendly and I hade fun. Also met the owner who was really funny and told us the history of the restaurant. It was a nice evening, never made it to the tea lounge. I will be a regular here!

Came here with the end goal of ordering beignets, but got horribly sidetracked by other savory dishes along the way. My friend and I ordered the Rock Shrimp to share — interesting taste and texture due to the hominy grits… but was annoyed to find that there was only 4 pieces of shrimp. what! However, we did get some tasty cornbread that we dipped into the grits. That salvaged the dish… somewhat We both ordered the catfish as our entrees — it was pretty delicious. I’ve never been a big fan of catfish… but it was blackened with a cornucopia of spices. Yum The waiter was super helpful and i liked that the restaurant had an old timey feel

Stumbled in on a Sunday night because we were in the neighborhood and my boyfriend remembered that a southern cuisine place was nearby(Rothschild’s has since replaced it). The place was fairly empty. Our server was friendly, and not overbearing. We sat in a corner of the restaurant. Because they had a busy week, they seemed out of everything! But nonetheless, our dining experience deserves 5 stars. We ordered a bottle of red to share(they were out of the Malbec so we took our server’s suggestion for the Rioja). My boyfriend started with the grilled calamari salad which was good. I ordered the special appetizer of the night. It was SO yummy. It was sausage(very great flavor) and shrimp — we both really loved it(and after finishing our entrees my boyfriend tried to put in a second order but they had already served the last one). I ordered the flat iron steak with chimichurri and sauteed spinach. It was very good. My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken breast which I thought was OK. After dinner, we took our wine and went upstairs. Our server knew we wanted to go up there so he lit candles and put them on the tables up there just for us. We loved this place and would of course come back! Hopefully they’ll be featuring that sausage as a special when we do!

I really wanted to love this place — one, because it’s beautiful inside, especially on cold winter nights. They’ve mastered the low-lit look which is hard to pull off* for most places, and I especially appreciate that as restaurants start to make their way into downtown Brooklyn, or DoBro as the kids are calling it these days. Rothschild’s is right on the edge(still on Atlantic, but moving in the right direction) and I appreciate that. And two, the server we had(Zach, I think his name is) is fantastic — he did the perfect job of talking up things up to get us to order them and when we complained about the onion rings, he offered to get us a new batch immediately. But the food was, overall, lackluster to downright disappointing. My salmon burger was nothing particularly special — and not that it should be(it’s salmon, on a roll) but some more spice or taste would have been appreciated. It wasn’t bad, per se, but not particularly special. The mozzerella po boy was enticing, but entirely too salty, as were the tabasco soaked onion rings(which sounds delicious!**) which we didn’t send back, but didn’t eat, either. One of the main saving graces, though, is dessert — they have a delectable menu highlighted by the beignets which, while we’re not talking the same as sitting on Bourbon Street(or whatever street Café Dumond is on) downing them with a beer at 9am, it’s still really good. And, in addition, the seating was really awkward — the tops of the tables were gorgeous oak or maple(it was a dark wood, that’s all I know) that flickered beautifully in the candlelight but the way the bases of the table are set up, there was absolutely nowhere to put our feet while we were sitting except to splay them widely. Which is great when I’m sitting at home on my couch, but not quite as comfortable when I’m sitting with a bunch of people at a table. I like this place a lot, and I’ll probably go back in the hopes that the food will be less salty next time, but maybe I’ll sit at the bar next time. * — Usually it’s either too dark to see the person in front of you or so lit up that you’re ready to answer any and every question they have. ** — Sounds so delicious that it requires an exclamation point).

I stopped in for brunch for the first time today. The décor was lovely, the music was great. Not too loud but loud enough for a lively feel when you walk in. I had the seafood benedict. My friend had the pancakes. My seafood benedict was delicious with the crab cakes and side of rock shrimp hash were tasty! Though, I admit I was a bit concerned that the benedict dish was served on plain bread instead of an english muffin so it got soggy. But it was still tasty overall. Of course, I had a few bites of the pancakes and they, too, were delicious. I did think they would have better coffee being New Orleans themed, I half expected chicory but that wasn’t on the menu. The orange juice, however, is fresh squeezed so huge plus. I will be back for dinner soon for sure. ps…They do accept Visa & Mastercard.

I thought the dinner room looked great, my expectations were high based on the presentation and quick friendly service. The drinks and food really were awful. I ordered a Bloody Mary that was thin, too hot and lacked tomato juice. It would be much better for them to use Mr and Mrs T’s pre mix. Noted lady behind bar more than once using a napkin to dab off excess foam from Mimosa’s she had made. The food was as off the mark. I ordered a bowl of corn chowder and a mixed leaf salad with Roquefort cheese and roasted beets. Corn chowder was tasteless and resembled a bowl of vomit. The salad had to be requested, as it was ‘overlooked’ then arrived with no cheese. Felt ripped off and was sad to pay for the meal(that i ate very little of) and tip! Cash only.

I’ve been here about a dozen times last night being my most recent visit. I started going there when it was called Stan’s and although the décor has changed the food seems to have remained the same. I always get the shrimp po boy and as it’s my only point of reference in the world of po’ boys it’s a-ok in my book. (I do have every intention of trying the burger as well as the fried chicken and I will update my review when I do) The bread is toasted with butter and the shrimp are always seasoned to my personal taste buds pleasure. I love the fact that they are not stingy with shrimp here. I love the new décor and the wait staff are friendly and very nicely dressed.

This burger is so good it makes me feel guilty for eating it. I can’t speak for anything else on the menu, because as soon as I took a bite of its perfectly-cooked, thick, savory lusciousness, I had visions of sneaking out of my apartment at night to hungrily shovel it into my face. I wanted to smoke a cigarette afterward. I wanted to call my sponsor. I wanted to go to confession. In fact, I may or may not have written an entire parody of Eminem’s «Guilty Conscience» about this burger, before I realized that no one wants to read my song, let alone hear me sing it. I’ve always said my favorite burgers were made in New Orleans; Rothschild’s has brought that burger to Brooklyn. And the fries are seasoned, crispy perfection.

This place deserves some good exposure. Since my previous Unilocal reviews seem to be focused on places that need some work, I figure maybe it is time focus on a place that deserves some praise. After going here on early on a Friday night, I felt like this place has yet to earn the exposure it deserves given only five reviews so far. The waitstaff and kitchen staff were extremely friendly and very baby accommodating to babies with multiple high chairs. The dinner menu was limited in a good way. The prices were noticeably cheaper than comparable well appointment places in the area, in part offset by smaller yet sufficient portion sizes. It did not get busy and I wonder how busy it does get in the evenings, maybe it is a more popular brunch place. Anyway, more people should get here, I know I will definitely be going back, it has been a long time since I have been somewhere good that felt like everyone already knew about.

This place was called Stan’s Place. Still has a New Orleans spin, but probably not as much as before. I came in for brunch. They sold me on their special, eggs benedict with shrimp and crayfish. It was delish, but… They claimed it would come out on an English muffin, with sweet potato fries. Instead of an English muffin, I got bread !!! Instead of sweet potato fries, I got home fries. wtf?
