Pretentious place that focuses more on its appearance than the costumer. The one waiter working at the bar was more concerned with chatting with another costumer than serving drinks. Went into the sports bar which was brimming with people next door and got served within seconds. Good music though.

awesome décor(taxidermy), friendly and interesting bartender, and one of the best bloody marys I have had.

Great bar. I like the décor(although the taxidermy is a little freaky), but also the bar is well stocked and the drinks are reasonably priced. Plus they have big buck hunter! Very cool bar to have a couple drinks before or after dinner on Van Brunt(Chiang Mai, Red Hook Lobster Pound, etc.) or to spend the whole evening.

After dining at Red Hook Lobster Pound a few doors down, we stopped into Red Hook Bait & Tackle for some after dinner drinks. This is a most wonderful dive bar that reminds me very much of my favorite dive bar in Chicago(Inner Town Pub). When you step inside, there are tons of different things hanging on the walls, from the ceiling, and the bar is jam-packed with stuff too. It only adds to the charm. This place is simply magical! It made me so happy to find a place like this on one of my last nights in NYC. If you love dive bars, you will love this place!

A couple month’s ago I was attending the Dead Moon/J. Mascis concert in Red Hook. The show started on the early side. I was still killing time until my ticket was to arrive in the area. I needed a drink. It’s was my birthday and a rough one at that. I decided to pop into the closest bar to the venue. Damn! I walk in and L7 is blasting and the place is covered in head to toe TAXIDERMY! I just died and went to bar heaven! I am a sucker for wood details, deer heads and on this special day peeps covered in rad band shirts and tattoos. I talk a lot about the NW in my reviews. And this place is no exception, it reminds me of the forest, cabin style bars I love to frequent. The best part was that this time the drummer of Dead Moon was also chilling and even J. Mascis popped in for some drinks. The bartender Anne is real nice and attentive. She made sure I had my gin and sodas with lime. And I even spotted her at the show later. This bar made me want to relocate into this small town called Red Hook, full of regulars who love NY but hate the crowds and douche bags. Maybe someday I will also be a regular.

Taxidermied animals + great staff + good booze at a fair price + Dog Friendly = Red Hook Bait & Tackle This is a local(some might call it a ‘dive’) bar that has a welcoming ‘not just locals only’ feel and good booze options. If you happen to like bending an elbow at a bar rough cut from a single long plank of wood or are philosophically inclined to drink with your favorite four-legged friend, Bait & Tackle is your kind of place. With the bar’s pup-friendly policy, Bait & Tackle can’t serve food but there are several good eating options in the vicinity.

Great Spot. Cash Only. If you’re looking for a place that plays great tunes and has terrible taxidermy everywhere, this is the spot for you. It’s a totally chill spot for a couple of beers if you’re waiting for dinner or if you’re just getting your night started. It’s a no-fuss kind of place and I can really appreciate that. They do also have a happy hour where select beers are only $ 4. Hard to beat. Can’t wait to go back.

Red Hook Bait and Tackle is by far my favorite bar that I accidentally stumbled upon in NYC. Amazing décor and cheap drinks make for a happy me. Granted we went on a random Thursday, but there was plenty of seating even for our large-ish group of 6.

I understand why this bar has so many five star reviews; I love a good dive bar as much as the next girl(probably more). But… *controversial opinion alert*… I don’t like dogs in bars.(Or in Anthropologie for that matter – what’s the deal with bringing dogs clothes shopping? Do you truly value its opinion as to that tea length skirt? Because even I can tell you it makes you look fat.) Red Hook is basically another planet for me, and required a LOT of walking from the subway to get there.(Sorry, I don’t bus.) I was meeting a friend in the area for an event, and we ended up dropping by a few bars afterwards. Bait & Tackle seemed really promising(and much less crowded than Ice House), and the bartender poured us a strong drink while we waited for the rest of our friends to get their acts together. But here’s the thing; I don’t want to be tripping over your dog in a bar. I don’t want your dog to be slobbering all over my phone, which I had plugged in to charge in a corner. I don’t want my black pants to be covered in dog hair and dander from a run in with your dog. If I go to your apartment and all of these things happen, then it’s on me for choosing to go to a home with a dog. But this is a bar. I realize some of you may say this is a case of poor pet ownership in a bar, but if the bar isn’t going to do anything to monitor the pets they allow inside, then it is on them. Going out to Red Hook was sort of a once in a blue moon kind of thing for me anyway, so I am not terribly concerned that I’ll be faced with this dilemma any time soon, but if given the choice I will probably pick Ice House over Bait & Tackle. Except to go to the bathroom, as it’s still faster to run next door to pee than it is to stand in the line at Ice House.

Red Hook Bait and Tackle might just have won out for my favorite bar of all time. A friend and I spotted this place from across the street, and upon seeing the dog sitting in the doorway, I wanted to step in. The place has a relaxed, neighborhood feel(like every place in RedHook). You could see friends walk through the door and high five the bartender or hug another friend sitting in a nearby seat. A folk band was playing in the corner seemingly accompanying the many pelts and taxidermy animals line the walls, along with knicknacks of christmas décor and various hunting and fishing gear. The best part was, though, that it didn’t seem like it was trying. You got the sense that RHB&T has always been this way; and I hope it will continue to be.

A fun, charmingly-decorated place to grab a drink and play Duck Hunter. It’s like my dream living room on crack. If the mini-donkey ever goes missing, Barry knows where to find me. The staff is friendly, the vibe is cool, the local crowd is incredibly loyal, and it’s especially fun late-night. Oh, and Barry. Barry is the best bar owner hands down. LOVE this place.

We’re just wild about Barry. Barry the bartender is one of the best bartenders in Brooklyn — perhaps in NYC, tho I haven’t ventured much into The Bronx, Queens, or Staten Island, so I’ll play fair. Barry is super friendly, and effortlessly ensures that all patrons feel at home. The bar has more than a handful of regulars, and it’s easy to see why. RHB&T is fun and charming. It would be too easy and dismissive to call it «a cool dive bar.“It has so much character — knickknacks and overall weirdness flood the ceiling — you absolutely feel the love that goes into this place. It’s also filled with ample seating opportunities(sitting is important to me when I spend hours at a bar), along with a big back room with a sofa, mismatched furniture, and Wild Buck Hunter, making it a great place to go solo or with a group. Well worth the trip to Red Hook.

My favorite bar in all of Brooklyn! Why? The bartenders and most of the clientele are friendly, hospitable, and laid-back. The atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. It’s like no other bar in all of NYC. I it! There is usually(not always) free music on Fri and Sat nights.

Dive in! You’ll be hooked for sure. Live music, good taps, fine spirits and knowledgable bar staff make this dive more of a neighborhood lounge.

Not actually a bait and tackle shop, but a very interestingly themed local bar. Bait and tackle feels like it would belong in Alaska rather than Red Hook but has all the markings of a good local bar. Deer heads and snowshoes adorn the walls and since this is Brooklyn, everyone working there has the most interesting facial hair you’ve ever seen until you see the next person. Good beer selection.

Bait & Tackle is an awesome dive bar with some of the coolest décor around. Surrounded by endless taxidermy, you can enjoy affordable drinks and hang with the locals. Came here for a few rounds on a Saturday afternoon with a few friends. A live blues band played a number of songs, which added to the delightful atmosphere of this wonderful little gem. Would definitely come back when I’m in the area again. If I lived nearby, this would be my go-to bar.

Great local dive bar. Ideal for kicking back with a group of friends. This was one of the stops on a birthday pub crawl. The décor is fun and ridiculous. Plastic ducks and animal skins nailed to the ceiling. Stuffed animals(are those real??) peeking out at every corner. And the random signage and strings of Christmas lights. Basically, anything you can think of, it’s somewhere in this bar. The bartender was super nice. He gave us a deck of cards that we used to play drinking games. A good move on his part, since that just made us order even more drinks. They had $ 2 Tecates while we were there! You can’t beat that. Needless to say, we stayed here a lot longer and left a lot drunker than planned. Cool place all around.

From the plastic ducks on the ceiling to the wild, Christmas light adorned bar, to the incredible metalwork sign that reads«Douchebag» in the back of the bar, Redhook Bait & Tackle may strike you as overwhelming on first entering. But, spend a little time here and knock back a few reasonably priced libations and I think you’ll agree that there are few spots in Brooklyn as interesting, fun, and unique. The service here is friendly and attentive and, if you can snag one of the couches in the back, it’s like hanging out in a friend’s living room and having a few drinks. Well, if you have a friend that has a stuffed black bear in their living room I suppose. I don’t know that I can add too much to the chorus of praise for this place. Just go if you get the chance, it’s relaxing, fun, and such a welcome break from the standard Brooklyn bar with its kitschy, trying-way-too-hard-to-be-ironic décor.

I was sad and was looking for a laid-back place to go where I could drink by myself. Red Hook had always felt like home, so I took the bus into Red Hook and ended up here. Well, it seems I struck upon the right place — it is pretty laid-back. However, the bar tender was too friendly to allow me to isolate myself in the corner and drown in self-pity. I ended up engaged in conversation with the regulars and had a much better night than expected. This bar feels like it came out of a different era. Definitely going back, worth the trek.

Great dive bar!!! I wish I lived closer to here, if so i’d be here all of the time. I came here around 2pm to watch the Argentina v Mexico world cup game from 1 out of the 5 TVs. I had several seating options the back living room area, the corner lounge, bar of course and upfront by the window. Where ever I sat I had a good view of the TVs. Not that big of a selection of beer but prices are good for what they have. Iced Tea and the Ice Coffee are very good if your not down for drinks in the early afternoon. Overall great place to watch the World Cup games as they open their doors at 7:30AM for all of your early AM drinkers. I believe it was the owner behind the bar serving drinks, he was a funny smart ass which made my experience here even more enjoyable. I may be here for the Final on 7⁄11.
