I think I have finally found a salon I can love after a year of trying various South Slope options. Laurie listened to what I wanted and my thoughts and concerns and then made good suggestions for color and cut. She did a really lovely color for me and the cut has been easy to care for. She is a total sweetheart with a very calming presence and made me feel like I had been a client for years. She also is accommodating of schedules. And unlike other salons in the Slope, Laurie includes a blow dry with her services instead of tacking on another fee, which was something that seriously irritated me elsewhere. Did they really think I was going to pay $ 160 & up for color and cut and leave with wet hair in the middle of winter? Of course I had to pay the extra $ 20. And she also does not charge one price for cash and another for credit (illegal by the way unless posted). I am looking forward to a long relationship with Laurie & Pomona.

Got my hair cut my LAURIE and I love it! went in with long, unmanageable shoulder length hair and left with flattering bob, just curling under my chin. I initially wanted to get bangs and she suggested that I try something to thin out my mane of hair. Now, initially I was nervous but I went for it and I’m so glad I did. Overall, excellent experience. I feel like she really listened to me and took the time to make it as flattering as possible. she also showed me how to blow dry it daily and which hair product to use. will return: D

Laurie brings out the best in my hair! I make a special trip out to Brooklyn just to see her.

Pomona Beauty Sanctuary is aptly named. Not only will you leave the salon looking beautiful but also feeling good because it is a very positive atmosphere to be in. All of the staff-​Laurie, Karina and Melissa-​are all very talented stylists and lovely people. I go to Laurie and have been for over ten years. Not only is she a great colorist and stylist but she is also a very fascinating woman so our conversations are fun and interesing. I always meet great women when I visit the salon as all of their patrons are also lovely and interesting people. I would NEVER go anywhere else!

Laurie is the BEST. Period.

I’ve been going to Pomona since Laurie opened years ago (hate to think how many it’s been now)… I’ve had all sorts of cuts done by her and color as well. I’ve seen her give great cuts to men and little kids as well as an amazing variety of women. One visit, she finished trimming someone’s long hair with tiny scissors, then gave the next woman a buzzed crew cut. Both left beaming. She’s artful and skilled. Funny and friendly. Relaxed and quick… in other words, completely deserves all five of those stars.

Cons:
–The blowouts are not always consistent, sometimes it’s a rush job but sometimes Laurie really takes her time. If you ask for a good blowout, she will do it.
–Do not expect the cleanest/​most updated of salons. It’s a little too laid-​back in that regard. Sometimes they overbook and you will be waiting for while for your turn. That said, it’s a nice little environment to wait your turn and it’s easy to reschedule if needed.
–They do not accept credit cards yet despite what Unilocal says.
Pros:
–Laurie is very easy going and sweet. She is a very genuine and friendly person.
–She does a beautiful cut every single time. I will say again, every single time you will leave VERY happy with your haircut.
–Prices are reasonable for NYC standards and you get a really nice and personal service. As of 2013, I believe standard wash, cut and blow is about $ 65 and up.

I started going to Pomona in 2006 after moving from the East Village to the South Slope, and for the past seven years have never trusted my haircuts to anyone but Karina. She understands exactly what I want, and knows what styles (and now color too) will flatter my face shape and fine hair. Prices are reasonable and it’s nice going to a two-​person salon rather than a bigger place. Plus, Karina is an awesome, friendly, funny great person. Highly recommended!

I’ve struggled with finding a hair dresser ever since I moved to South Slope last year — after one WAY overpriced cut and one plain BAD cut, I decided I’d try out Pomona… mostly because whenever I walk by the salon it’s always looked so appealing. Turns out, in this case you can judge a book by its cover!
Pomona was a really positive overall experience, as Laurie was the only other person there and so I didn’t feel the normal rushed/​chaotic sense that I have felt in other salons. It was very relaxing, with some oldies like the Beatles playing in the background! Also, she was able to fit me in on the same day, which is always convenient for us New Yorkers who sometimes don’t have time to plan ahead.
Laurie really listened to what I had to say about how I wanted the shape/​length… We sat there for a good 3 – 4 minutes going over exactly what I was looking for, just to be clear. She also made suggestions, given her expert eye, and I loved what she had to say. Not only that, but she did a fantastic job with the cut itself. She was very attentive to detail and treated my hair with the respect that you want from a hairdresser! Highly recommend going to Pomona — Laurie is a sweet, lovely lady!

Laurie is so laid-​back and friendly, and I really felt like she listened to my (pretty simple) haircut requests; she pretty much dissolved my usual haircut-​anxiety. She took her time, looking at how my hair was laying after each adjustment, and I felt like she had a clear sense of what I wanted. The salon itself was cute and comfortable– Bob Dylan on the stereo, and the décor has a nice New England hippie-​ish vibe. I ended up with a haircut I’m really happy with, well worth the price.

I took a chance with Pomona based on the good reviews, and I wasn’t disappointed. The stylist, Melissa, was really nice, listened very carefully to what I wanted, plus added some tips on what would work best with my hair texture, lifestyle and face structure. She was very responsive to my request for a tweak here and a tweak there, and let me know I could come back for an extra tweak later if necessary. I’m sure I won’t need it, but it put my mind at ease. It’s so nice to know that a stylist is interested in building repeat business by providing good customer service, and the option of coming back for a little adjustment later is so huge!

For the past 10 years or so i have been going to pomona, every one knows my family and me and i have always felt welcome. Also i never get the same cut twice so the constant knowing that i will get what i want is always nice. in fact I’m going tomorrow for a cut and I’m sure it will be excellent as always.

I’ve been a long time fan of Pomona, and by Pomona I mean Laurie of course. There is another stylist there, but I have never had her do my hair, and Laurie is the owner.
My hair isn’t easy to make look good, it’s thin and I’m lazy… anyway Laurie understands this. I’m defiantly what you’d call a high-​maintenance, special needs client. Laurie always fits me in, even though I rarely schedule very far in advance, it’s always an «I need a cut now!»
Laurie is fun, the shop is cute and friendly. She always has great music on and she carries a wonderful line of products. She even does yoga in there. I’ll never make it to one of those sessions, you just don;t run into a yoga studio yelling «I need a stretch now!»
But if I did, I’m sure she would accommodate me.

I’ve been looking for a regular place to get my haircut, meaning one I would go back to because I liked it. It’s not as easy as it sounds. But anyway, I think I found it at Pomona. Lori cut my hair, was very friendly, and did a great job. I was about to lose hope. I recommend it.
