Pete’s Pizzeria

The best Italian food I’ve ever had, and I’ve been to Italy. Also the price is great. I ate breakfast here nearly everyday for 2 weeks when I was visiting.
This place is definitely a hidden gem.

Don’t Bother. So many other good Pizzeria’s in Brooklyn. This is a Hole. They are racist and do not like Jews. Move from an area that has a heavy Jewish population. Also from what I hear the place is disgusting and filthy.

For quick and easy lunch. Nothing fancy, but pretty nice slice of pizza. All american style. No style. Cheap ‘n Easy.

I use to come here since my school is right down the block. When I first came here it was okays. But after a few months after not going and the food is disgusting. The food is soggy oily and nasty GROSS. The place is extremely dirty.

I didn’r eat there but my children did, I was so gross out by their bathroom I just sat and waited for them to eat, they liked their pizza but I’m waiting for food poisoning symptoms!
I WOULD NEVER EAT THERE! EVER!!!

I went to Edward R. Murrow High School and this place was just a hang-​out for students who were not on the brighter side of the academic spectrum. That might sound mean, but it holds true to date as I pass this pizzeria everytime I walk home.
The pizza is overly greasy, the cheese does not really taste like cheese (that’s scary), half the time you cannot even taste the sauce, and the bread seems to be really tough for no apparent reason. Obviously, I’ve had this pizza a few times. I would only recommend this if you are desperate or only have 2 dollars on you and it is Friday, as Midwood (orthodox Jewish community) closes pretty early on a Friday.

The night we moved into Midwood we were without a fridge or a working stove. We had to make due and most places were closed. We walked by Pete’s and shrugged our shoulders and walked in, since nothing else was open.
This place is a hole in the wall, but it’s decent enough for when you need food for fast and cheap… and if you want some pepperoni on your pizza whereas all the other Kosher pizza places won’t do that. Yes, DiFara’s is just a few blocks away, but if you are strapped for cash (you need cash, no cards accepted) go for it.
I got the baked ziti which was surprisingly good. We also tried a sicilian slice and a philly cheese steak roll. All were good. The price is right and when you need food and fast, check out Pete’s.

Do you know that FENCE in the «backside» area of E. R. Murrow High School? Well, it all started because of Pete’s Pizza and what me and my friend «Yugo,» a Russian kid who, like me, attended E.R. Murrow HS, had to do with it.
Pete’s Pizza in its heydays (from mid 1980s to about 1995) had arcade games right at the entrance. They would have a bunch over the years ranging from Contra, Super Contra, Cabal, the list goes on.
Well in 1993, me and my friend Yugo (his name was Yuroslav and I am still looking for him on Facebook, where are Yugo?!) were playing the arcade game Street Fighter 2. Some kid from another high school came to Pete’s Pizza to order a slice (it was overpriced, greasy, and just low quality even back in the 90s), and then he started playing Street Fighter 2 against both of us. Yugo beat the kid in the game and the kid ended up pulling out a knife and stabbing Yugo in his shoulder blade. Yugo was bleeding and the police were called.
After this violent event, the principal, Saul Bruckner (he died last year in 2010 I believe) commissioned that ugly fence to prevent kids from leaving the school during their «Opta» periods.
That move seriously angered local businesses. Local kids could no longer go to Hot Bagels or a few of the local businesses nearby. I myself would cut class often and would patronize the local «Caraville» restaurant (it was Greek before it went all-​jewish cuisine and it just went out of business in end of 2011) on East 19^th and Avenue M.
Anyhow I wanted to tell you guys how Pete’s Pizza played a huge role in erecting that fence. Now let me get to the food.
I met Mike, the original owner who now sold off the business, when I was in grade 6 at the age of 11. He was a very nice guy and I would come to the store often but not because of the pizza. It was (and remains) a great kid’s hangout or a high school clan’s gathering place.
The pizza, last time I tasted about a week ago, is pure garbage for the price. Where I live now (in Bensonhurst), I can buy a nice small pizza «pie» for only $ 5 from Papa John’s. You also get a choice of two toppings. It is freshly made on order, not «at 10am» and sitting around, and tastes delicious. Pete’s has other options (I did enjoy the beef pattie there although it is greasily disgusting on some level) which may suit your fancy but the pizza sucks. The prices overall do not justify the product. If the local high school was not there, this place would be bankrupt as no reasonable person would patronize this crappy place. Basically you are paying manhattan city prices for crap food. I absolutely do not recommend this place. I wonder who owns it now? What I do know is the food is not worth the price or the trip there. Save your dough and take a walk to kings highway, about 3 avenue blocks away, right on East 19^th street where you will go to a TRUE Italian pizzeria — J&R pizzeria between East 19^th street and Ocean Avenue on Kings Highway — the owner’s son looks like Paul O’ Neill from the Yankees, haha. Anyhow, over there, they have a nice plasma TV, cool air conditioning, and a very comfortable seating area. Trust me you high schoolers — take the walk — you are young — and enjoy the pizza. The cheese there does not skimp on quality like this fake Italian joint using Pete’s name in vain.

I’ve got to admit it, the other two reviewers hit the nail on the head. But I remember a time when Pete’s was the best place in a pretty large area to get a slice. Not only that, but they were awesome as far as service.
I remember when I first moved in, I got a slice of Pete’s and a soda after moving way too much in in one day. The guys working there were exactly what you’d expect from a Brooklyn pizza place. The delivery guys were awesome, and if they knew/​trusted you, they’d stop at a corner store and pick up beer for you. Not too long after I moved away I went back to visit and noticed a huge change in the people working there but the pizza was still great. Seems the longer I stay away the worse it gets, though, which is sad, because it really used to be awesome.
I still go back when I’m home, but it’s more for nostalgia than anything else.
I miss the guys that used to work there, especially the really big guy, Mike — he used to yell at the high schoolers in there on Friday afternoons when they were being ridiculous… like these two that were making out like there was no tomorrow — awesome.

Listen, when you’re stuck in Midwood and you’re in need of fast, friendly and fierce food – this is the place. Asians at the registers, Mexicans at the grill – this place makes the United Nations seem ethnically unbalanced.
The pizza is tasty and the big surprise? It’s the ONLY place in the hood where you can get a burger & fries combo! I am telling you, they will hook you up– but don’t expect huge burger or buns – but the taste hits the spot.
So if you’re stuck in Midwood and need something quick that’s offered with a friendly smile, this is the place for you.

This place used to be all that.
Now its none of that.
Their pizza is with cheapness in mind so don’t expect to be wowed by taste.
Their pizza is about ¼ of an inch thin and you cant taste the sauce some times.
Their other dishes are fair, garlic bread is one of the better ones.
The place is kept in business by High school kids near by who don’t know what is good food.
There is a fair amount of seating but its a pretty cramped place, especially when the kids get out around 2.
I would only recommend this place to people with no taste buds or in need of food, fast and cheap.
Oh, and the bathrooms aren’t free, be sure to bring a wallet with you.
