What’s the point of making an appointment for an oil change at 7 when you are only going to tell me you won’t get to my car until 9? That plus an hour for work will have me done by 10pm? Will not return and will spend my money elsewhere that actually has customer service.

Thanks to an epic botch by a Turnpike gas station attendant, I recently found myself without a gas cap. After calling frantically around to various repair shops, one recommended I just go to Pepboys. They had me out the door with the right gas cap for my car in under five minutes, and everyone was exceedingly friendly and courteous. Great experience all around.

You guys REALLY SUCK. Thieves and liars. I got a quote for brake work of $ 1300. Yeah, all the parts needed replacement. Pads, rotors front and rear. Coupled with a stern warning that this work needed to be done as soon as possible.
I got a second opinion and the only thing needed was rear pads. GO TO HELL YOU BASTARDS.

Awful all round.
Online order — didn’t have when we got there.
Said come back later in the week.
Their weekly ad said they would install. Service people said they wont.
Canceled order and walked out.
Never again.
Another crappy service experience in this part of the world.

I’ve been going here for awhile but the past Friday, something happened that people need to know about. My A/​C was out. I met with Reed, at the Customer Service Desk. He started off with a price of around $ 60.00. Then went up and down upon being questioned further. Do you need to empty the freon and start fresh, do I need just a refill, etc etc…
Truth is, all they have to do is put a gauge on it and see if its empty or low. Their dye test is a quick $ 60. Why?! When pushed to tell me how much this could potential cost he said finally about $ 280. I said no way, it wasn’t that bad. I went to the area where the guys get you stuff. The guy said, you can use any Freon in this area, here is one with a gauge so you don’t hurt anything etc., etc. I bought a gauge and two cans, filled it up in about 5 minutes and my A/​C was freezing.
BE WARY OF MR. REED. He is there to rip you off for the Company and make a name for himself if he doesn’t already have on. Very disappointed; usually honest service.

Luckily I didn’t check the reviews before I went…
My driver’s side headlight had been out for a few days, and I swung by Pepboys yesterday morning to have them change it. The man at the service center, Christopher, said they could definitely change it, but to be honest they were very busy right then and it would be quicker if I came back later. He told me to come back in about 2 hours, which I did. He remembered me, told his colleague (can’t remember his name) that he had arranged to get my car seen ASAP when I arrived, and his colleague helped me from there.
I waited about 5 – 10 minutes before I was told it was all set. Apparently it seemed as though someone had tampered with the light, so it wasn’t working but it also wasn’t dead, it just needed to be properly screwed in. They fixed it for me, free of charge, and I went on my way.
I am so appreciative that they were consciousness of my time, kept to their word, and were honest about my situation. They could have easier «replaced» the still-​functioning bulb and charged me, and I would have never known the difference. I was shocked by their professionalism and honesty, and looking up their reviews AFTER my experience I felt the need to express what a positive encounter I had with them. Thanks for not ripping me off or wasting my time! That’s a rare thing around these parts.

I would just like to extend my sincerest gratitude to Abdul, Maggie, and his team. Last weekend there was a complete misunderstanding with a service that I needed to have done– initially due to miscommunication, I wound up paying for a service I did not realize was happening. Needless to say I was upset.
After reaching out to customer service, Abdul contacting me immediately, and Maggie, and the rest of Abdul’s team being so helpful, I was able to get a discount on the service provided. They were efficient and responsive. I intend on doing business again with them in the future.

If I could give this place a zero I would. I DO NOT know how these idiots have jobs. I was given three different times for when my vehicle would be ready. Simple tune up, O2 sensor replacement, and u joint replacement. 6+ hours to get this done! I will NEVER EVER come back to this place.

I was not happy with my last visit here. I came in super early on a Sat morning in 2015. I waited hours before they loojed at my car. I shoppedin the store for a loooong time and then I go back again to the waiting area to wait some more. I had to ask again about my car. The rep said, «The mechanic is going to look ar your car now.» My car wasn’t even in the bay/​garage area yet. This is 4 hours now. Keep in mind that I made an appointment as well. I was done. I asjed for my keys and left! So sad because I used to love coming to Pep Boys formy car.

I went to Pep Boys a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night because my car felt like it was stuck in 4WD and my mechanic was already closed. After waiting over ten minutes to be acknowledged, someone took my keys and drove my car around the parking lot (which I was charged $ 23 for). He said it was not stuck in 4WD but had numerous other things wrong with it, and had a mechanic put it on a lift to show me. Oil was pouring out of the bottom of the car, as was power steering fluid. They told me I needed to have my entire steering system replaced along with my oil pan, and that my (recently replaced) front brakes were shot. It should be noted that I checked fluids before taking the car in to see if the problem was something other than the 4WD, so IMAGINE my surprise to see that it had lost so much oil and power steering fluid driving the four blocks from my apartment to Pep Boys.
They also laughed like I was a moron because they asked when I had «last» changed my clutch and I said I’d only had the car for two years and didn’t know if it was the original clutch. One guy said to another: «She’s had the car for two years and never changed the clutch!!» They acted like you’re supposed to change the clutch like you change the oil.
They said they wouldn’t have an estimate until the next day and that they’d call me in the late morning /​early afternoon. I didn’t hear from them all day, and having never had a major problem with the car, I was suspicious of their claims and went back at 530pm to reclaim my car. They said the parts would be in on Monday and quoted me $ 2515 to fix the car (the brakes were not included in that estimate). I declined, reluctantly gave them $ 23 for looking at it in the first place, and tried to drive away… but I couldn’t because although they had no permission to work on my car, it had been drained completely of power steering fluid and drained of all but a tiny bit of engine oil. So, that $ 23 «labor» charge for them to drive my car and see what was wrong with it was really me paying them to drain my car of fluids so they could show me how bad the «leaks» were. I had to replace the fluids to get it off of their lot. They also left my interior lights on for the full 24 hours they had it, so I’m guessing a new battery was going to be added to the bill by the time Monday rolled around, had they kept it.
I went to my mechanic on Monday morning and nothing they said was wrong with the car was wrong with it. Not one single thing. He changed my oil, looked at their estimate and shook his head. Oh, and he found a rusty wire connecting to my brake lights and fixed that. It cost me $ 135, which is a far cry from the $ 2515 Pep Boys claimed I needed to pay them to make my car drivable.
The generic stock replies on Unilocal are a joke, and their actions toward their customers are criminal. They intentionally damaged my car for the sole purpose of trying to charge me a fortune to fix it. Steer clear of this place (no pun intended) and all other Pep Boys stores. There are plenty of mechanics in the Gowanus area that are honest. I’m filing a complaint with the BBB, and more people writing essentially this same review of Pep Boys should do the same.

I recently had a remote starter installed in my car and has been working fine until today when I took my car into this Pep Boys location for a state inspection. After waiting for 2 hours for my car to be done, I was given my keys back and when I tried to remote start my car — it wouldn’t, so I returned the store and spoke with the mechanic (Tony) that initially did the inspection and brought it to his attention. He tested it himself and claimed that he didn’t touch anything in the car while doing the inspection but that I should bring this up to the manager.
So I walked back into the store and requested the manager (Abdul), and gave him detailed info on what was going on… he then took my paperwork and went to the back, to my guess speak to Tony, after a few mins he came back and with a smirk on his face claimed that he and his mechanics didn’t touch anything in the car to cause it to not work. I was patient and tried to be professional with him, but his smug look and smirk really didn’t help the situation and he basically didn’t want to help me with the issue-​mind you this is after I paid for the inspection. Then the manager had the nerve to just walk off to the back and not do anything.
So I filed a complaint against them with the corporate office and I took my car right back to where I got the remote starter and when we popped the hood, the piece for the starter was moved. It’s fixed now but I will never again go to Pep Boys on 4^th avenue and 3^rd street in Brooklyn. Their manager is very unprofessional, so they don’t even deserve to get a one star from me.

I am very happy to have a reason to write a new review for this store.
MIND YOU — this was an unexpected visit as I was there with a friend who was having his car inspected…
I can see that changes are being made here & I appreciate that SO MUCH!
As a member of the community & as a loyal customer of this location which has had some disappointing reviews (sadly these were EARNED) — I am thrilled that things are looking better!
Kevin who is apparently not new to Pep Boys but has only recently joined this location (YAY FOR US!) is THE DIFFERENCE between a customer feeling valued or not. We ALL understand that when any business location is busy there may be waiting time. But how that customer feels during that time is EVERYTHING & it makes the difference between a good or bad experience.
Kevin was not alone behind the counter however Deen (**PepBoys keep the name tag policy as it helps us to help you identify your employees that need some guidance) was demonstrating more of the reason for the BAD REVIEWS… Deen did make eye contact with people waiting on line but did not acknowledge them & acted as though it was too much trouble for him to do so. He was not nearly as busy as Kevin but their attitudes were markedly different.
* NOTE TO DEEN: IT IS NOT TOO MUCH FOR YOU TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE CUSTOMERS THAT ARE PATIENTLY AWAITING SERVICE — THEY ESSENTIALLY PROVIDE YOU WITH A PAYCHECK… RESPECTFULLY REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE LUCKY TO BE EMPLOYED… IT MIGHT BE A GOOD TIME TO REMIND YOURSELF. NO DISRESPECT IS INTENDED BUT KINDLY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOUR POOR TREATMENT OF CUSTOMERS IS A DISRESPECT TO US & OUR HARD EARNED MONIES/​TIME THAT WE ARE SPENDING AT YOUR PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT.
I digress…
KEVIN on the other hand, even with a line of 5 people & a waiting area with at least that many not only SMILED (*such an inviting feeling!*) but he verbalized to those of us on line that he would be right with us & thanked us for our patience! (* It truly doesn’t take a lot to make ALL the difference in the world). Further, a young man walked to the front of the line disregarding those already waiting & asked Kevin a question. Kevin was very polite — gave him a short answer and said that he would be happy to help him after helping the rest of those waiting first. The young man then realized his oversight, apologized and thanked him. No one could have been happier with how Kevin death with it & this was literally the perfect way to handle the situation.
This may seem like it is not a big deal, but even though it is not a lot of effort — these small details are the difference between good business & bad business…
Likewise Deen refusing to acknowledge the customers, even if he didn’t have/​take time to assist them — demonstrates a multitude of disrespects… that is precisely the reason this location has suffered — or at least on the customer service end.
Kevin is a huge asset to Pep Boys, so please do everything in your power to keep him & perhaps even put him in a position to train others in the proper way to interact with the clients. If he is not a manager already, being a business person myself, I would suggest PB highly consider promoting him. You ABSOLUTELY need people with that type of work ethic & positive attitude to keep & raise the bar for your company.
Furthermore I was so pleased to be greeted by Dez at the front counter on our way out. He was also all smiles, which I cannot express enough is KEY to a good customer experience!
It demonstrates that the associates are appreciative of the customer’s choice of patronizing PepBoys! Kudos on Dez as an addition to this location as well! Dez mentioned in our short chat that there was a new & female manager at this location… she must be doing something RIGHT! :-) WOOT-​WOOT ON THE FEMALE MANAGEMENT CHOICE!!!
As always Frank is my ULTIMATE favorite at this location — but I am THRILLED BEYOND BELIEF to see truly high quality caliber Pep Boys associates at this location… which is why I am taking my precious time (yes my time is very valuable) to write this very detailed review & articulate clearly my experience… it matters to me. It matters to every consumer… therefore it should matter to every single Pep Boys employee no matter their position nor their personal circumstances.
Thank you for reading this & please note — I am not suggesting that Deen & others that are also less than enthused that work there to be let go… but I do think that they need further support from management that will encourage them to embrace the benefits that come with offering truly respectful and high quality customer service… If they GIVE good, polite, gracious service — they will automatically improve their own interaction experiences with the clientele — which automatically changes the entire energy & experience of everyone both employee & client across the board.
Perhaps there should be new incentives PB…

Pops and Chris from the tire and parts departments were very helpful taking car of my car. They handled the situation with a lot of professionalism and curtesy. Those gentlemen know what they do. I have been coming there for a few years and will be back again.

My husband and I had a major situation with our car… we needed to refill our car with oil in order to turn it on and move it before alternate side parking the next day. We called to make sure this PepBoys had the Royal Purple oil we needed. We spoke to George and he said they did, but it was 850pm and they closed at 9pm. Our drive from our apartment was 15 minutes, so we borrowed out neighbors car and we’re hustling to get there in time.
We realized that we were not going to make it in time before the store closed and called back to talk to George. Of course we understood that long hours everyone there had put in, but George said he would put the oil we needed to the side and give us a few extra minutes. We made it to PepBoys by 903pm, got the oil we needed and were greeted with tired but extremely helpful help. His helpful cooperation saved us from getting a street parking ticket and salvaged our Labor Day weekend trip south.
We are deeply thankful for the understanding and cooperation from the late night employees when they obviously could have just said no and left us stranded. No other Auto store will get our business from this point on.

Worst shop in Brooklyn.
Had a 7 PM appointment. Seen at 830. They gave me some BS explanation for why my car was shaking. They said they’d call me in the AM with an estimate. They called me at 4:30 PM with a 3,000 estimate, only after I called and sat on hold and hung up for 30 mins. Went to get the car and it took another 30 mins. Then took it to my local guy who solved the problem for 40 bucks. All crooks. STAY AWAY! In any event, contacted the AG’s office and BBB. It’s a big company so prolly wont to anything. STAY AWAY.

I’ve been to this Pep Boys since like 2010 and I have never written a review, but today they took care of me fully, Manny, the guy in the service center, was real helpful. I went in for an inspection, and it was done in a jiffy. He explained the process and kept me updated throughout. They are all very courteous and friendly, and especially helpful. It was my last day before my inspection month ended, Thank you Pep Boys, you saved me a ticket! Wonderful me I recommend this location to everybody!!!

Ok first let me say, I like pep boys my first encounter in Jamaica queens was great but this spot felt like I steeped into twilight zone.
1. Dropped of car at 5;45 and asked how long for inspection they told me 1 he
2. I said can I go get some food they said yes and took my cell
3. I get call at 8:20 pm
4. They told me they called 3 times
Now how can you call that many times and only have one registered call and no voice messages
5. Get out at at apx 9.:30−45
And they tell me inspection was done at 6:10pm but only received one call at8:20!
This was circus act hard to beat

Instead of replying on Unilocal asking for details where I would have to give you my email address, how about you just read the details I’ve already written along with the many other one-​star comments that are written on here. Please stop pretending that you care and perhaps actually manage this location instead, if you don’t want one-​star reviews.

This place is running a scam and will extort you and hold your car hostage.
I brought my car in for an inspection. A 2010 Honda Civic all in working order.
When I went go pick the car up they said it failed inspection because of a brake light out and that it needed new wiper blades. Both were fine when I took it in. I think the guy’s name was Ali, he then tried to sell me the most expensive bulb and wipers or else he would fail the car. He wouldn’t offer any other options for parts only more expensive ones. I had to look up their inventory myself on the website for other cheaper options.

Made an order online and went to pick it up 2 days later. Unlike the first time, the order was ready to be picked up. However, the attendant who processed my order is a weirdo. As I stood near him on the other side of the counter, he walked out from behind it and right past me. No sound, no nothing. As I continue to stand there, old man homeboy walks pass me again. You would THINK he would tell me that he just brought all my stuff to the cashier. But no, he doesn’t say shit. He just leaves me standing there until I walk around the store and the cashier looks at me and waives. She knew what was up. You can tell old man homeboy was not in a good mood that day.
Either way, I’m still giving 4 stars. Their online deals for supplies are unbeatable with instant 30% off. Old man homeboy, get some rest.
