Took my two dogs here on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I was dying from the heat and so were my dogs. Its a great dog run if it wasn’t so sunny. There is no shade either. But it is a new and renovated place. A simple and spacious dog run with a seperate area for smaller dogs. This might be a better place for my little guy than Dyker because fo the aggressive dogs there. I will try it again when its not so sunny.

Sorry folks it’s no dog spa and it’s not the prettiest, but it’s what each dog owner makes and contributes to the place. From the many of times I have brought my dog here, there is definitely a communial feel. You can tell many of the owners do care and make an effort to make the best of it here. The place reminds of me how dog runs were originally started before any city funding; an open space for dogs where the local residences/dog owners pitch in by bringing spare chairs, toys, dog bowls, and extra bottles of water to share. The only issue I would have is that on certain days the air is blah because of the nearby DEP plant; but it things can be worse such as a non-existent dog run to be criticize or complain about. Don’t get me wrong it would be nice if the local board or parks department made an effort to do an upgrade.

Decent sized dog run. Dirt floor. No running water. A little hard to find. When in Owl’s head park you have to go towards the water and the dog run is next to the highway entrance. There’s a part of the dog run that goes up a hill then down, so when your dog goes there, you can’t see them. Pretty bare bones here. If you go here, you can run along shore road or the belt afterwards with your dog.

Not one of Brooklyn’s best dog runs… by a long shot. Things it has going for it: — Large area — Good fencing, gates and entry area Things it has against it: — No water — No bathrooms for humans near run — Dirt ground cover with lots of broken glass — No permanent seating for humans — No poop bags, but has an empty dispenser for plastic shopping bags — Limited shade — No separate large and small dog runs — Next to Belt Pkwy, so very noisy Only reason it got 2 stars is because of its size and fencing. Add a small dog area and bring in water would make it a 3 star run. Go a step further and add better ground cover, shade and permanent seating would make this run a solid 4 star run in my opinion. Area residents and their dogs deserve better than this. Dog runs/parks I have been to so far:

The dog park will be getting renovated, so hopefully that will make it a lot better. Right now its mostly dirt, one big tree and no water fountains for the dogs. The dogs that do come here are friendly, and the owners are as well. I’ve never had a problem with any one here, but mostly I go to hillside dog park. I’m looking forward to the renovations though!

It’s not a well-appointed run and it’s largely neglected by the city but at least there’s a new steel fence around it thanks to recent bike path improvements. Dog run users are also fairly conscientious about not bringing in aggressive dogs. The Parks Dept really needs to step it up and bring the place up to the standards of Manhattan dog runs rather than blow its budget on 7-figure renovations of an overlook that few people even use and a million+ dollar skate park of interest to very few kids in this neighborhood.
