Nelly’s Salon Unisex

I went to this salon about two month ago to get my hair dyed. MY HAIR HAS BREAKAGE TILL THIS DAY. They do not know anything about hair care and have a disregard for it. Hair care is always the first thing I consider when doing something new. I’m also speaking for the hair I saw being done. I told them what I wanted and what I had in my hair. The first thing I ask was would what I wanted work. As stylist they should know that meant for my hair type (which was healthy at the time, is naturally curly, treated often and blows out well) and what kind of product I had in my hair. Then they do not pass me a book of colors to choose from and when I asked they had this attitude as why am I bothering and said they know (because I said not too blond –_​-​). So I ask for Ombré she does my hair by choosing random pieces of hair and putting dye real quick she did not take her time. It was unevenly put in my hair like she could careless she just wanted my money. Long story short the dye did not take so she over processed my hair with more bleach for a long time. It comes out different shades some green some blond She decides to fix it by putting temporary dye. I left with red and purple extremely dry hair. Because to top it off she used way way too much heat to blow out my hair that I suggested I’ll finish (I blow dry weekly on my own and get salon results). She put no type of product to protect my hair from a blow out after being over processed.
Ps. I’ve had dyed my hair blond a few times and never had this damage just slightly dry hair.
TIPS and INFO
1. IF YOU DO NOT SPEAK SPANISH even more so do not go the communication is bad. Yes the owner knows english but she doesn’t really use it and her assistant doesn’t know it.
2. Whats saving this business is local people she knows that go their for blow outs (which is the only thing they probably know but still is not done fully correct. I know cosmetologist). On a positive notes they seem to know how to give hair trims but can’t 100% say.
3. This salon charges more then others from what I hear around for such poor service.
4. Overall service is poor especially for someone that was polite through it all and still tipped.
5. This is not the first I’ve been there as a teen I was sent there a couple times but seems over the years they’re losing it. They did have customer service then but I guess it was because they where starting out. I use to get my hair relaxed even then I use to have dry scalp with scabs because they use the method when it starts to burn we’ll take it out.
I usually go to a salon that is great in hair care on the corner on 43^th going towards 4^th ave called La Belle.
They saved my hair with the hair cuts I’m going have to get till the breakage completely grows out. They always cut my hair best or treat it (I also no longer relaxe because they have shown me a product that is gentle and makes my hair managable).They also corrected my hair as best possible from the worst dye job I ever had before at Nelly’s.

I normally do my own hair but when i get lazy or am in the mood to go to the salon I come here.
Nelly does my hair, she does a good & quick job.
& the prices are great considering my hair is long !!

Nelly is probably the best hair stylist in North America. Okay I may be exaggerating but she is darn good!!! I have been going to her to get my hair done for 15 years. Her specialty is blow drying hair. She will get your hair perfectly pin straight no matter what the texture. I have watched her business expand from a small hole in the wall many many years ago to a new larger location around the corner. She is always consistent with her styling and I’ve never been disappointed. There are other stylist in the salon as well but I’ve never really bothered to go to anyone else. If its not broken why fix it! Nelly has also ran with one of the most popular trends right now expanding her business into hair extensions. If you are in the Brooklyn area and looking for a place to get your hair styled I definitely recommend this place. The only CON that I will give her salon, that i will not hold against her is her hair dying. That is not everyone’s specialty but I have gone here on more than one occasion to dye my hair and I did NOT like it. Ive went blonde with her and other colors and I did not like it. I dont know if it was the hair dye that they use or what but I would steer away from the hair dying there. Again I dont want to take away anything from this salon but Im just being honest! Her other services are great!!!
