It’s breakfast time in Bushwick and since my older brother abandoned us in his apartment since it was Monday and he had work to go to, my younger brother and I wandered around town looking for a place actually open for breakfast. Our original choice of seeking out Peruvian chicken was a fail at that hour but luckily for us, Montero’s was ready for our consumption. Walking inside, we saw that it was deserted(who eats breakfast on a Monday anyway?) but the staff quick to answer our door opening. Courteous people! You tell me you serve authentic Mexican cuisine, you better deliver. I grew up in Orange County, CA so there are plenty of other restaurants to compare the food to! My first thought upon seeing the menu is that these were normal casual restaurant prices at about $ 8 a plate. Okay, I can’t argue with the economy on the ground so I’ll take that price point at a Mexican joint. My order was for their Huevos Rancheros(two eggs over medium served on top of fresh corn tortillas and their housemade tomatillo sauce, Cotija cheese, and grilled Mexican chorizo). May I say that these were just lovely? Was the presentation nice? No but who cares when the attractiveness happens in my mouth? The tomatillo sauce was bright and the grilled chorizo reminiscent of a welcoming Mexican home I never experienced. The Mexican rice was also oh so wonderful with its tangy tomato flavor. I also had a cup of bean soup(or was it sauce?) that was great too. My younger brother ordered the Puebla Style Tortas(filled with lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, refried beans, quesillo, mayo, jalapeño peppers, and his choice of carne enchilada for the meat) with a side of fries. This would have made the perfect lunch for me. He only offered me a bite before his teenage self devoured the whole thing(or inhaled?). The meat was tender and well-seasoned; the vegetables fresh. The cheesy melted goodness greatly complemented the bun. The French fries were just about some of my favorite fries ever tasted. Think of a seasoned potato wedge but in fry form — delicious thought, no? We had a good meal there and definitely good service. Eat up here if you can!

Just had a real good roast pork burrito, their guacamole is also pretty tasty, and the chips are top notch. Mozzarella sticks are standard, marinara was good.

We just keep going back… It can be for brunch or late breakfast during the week. Or we can have it delivered to our house. We order from the menu from the pancakes or french toast(delicious) to the Monteros Burritos or the breakfast enchiladas(super!) They are always welcoming and very nice. Me being Italian, I’ve never tried the italian section of the menu but I’m happy with the best chips and salsa I have ever eaten! Last but not least: happy hour until 4.30 pm with great mimosas and sangrias for $ 3.00!

Great selection of Mexican/Italian cuisine. These guys know how to make excellent comfort food. Its a cool blend of traditional and new recipes. Totally accesible ethnic dishes with a great beer and wine selection. There’s a great two for one happy hour special. They also have daily specials. The food is just excellent. I love it there.

This is an update to my last review. The breakfast I had here recently did not stack up to my last experience unfortunately. My waffle was fine but came with a weird(fake?) thick butter-like substance and the bacon tasted gross to me like cheap. I think if you stick with the spanish food here its probably best.

Service was slow and the food wasn’t that fresh tasting or interesting. Convenience does not read quality! Disappointed by the high Unilocal reviews.

This was our first visit to Monteros and I am thrilled to have the first brunch of the new year there! We had the Huevos rancheros and barbacoa. .. The flavors were so fresh, the ones that should blend– did blend, the ones that should stand out– stood out. The goal was surprisingly tender and juicy. The hot orange sauce and cilantro sauce were beyond delicious. The meal and the waiter were simply enjoyable and we can’t wait to go back and eat our way around the menu.

I’ve only had take-out here — super friendly & quick service, with quite the delicious array of wraps /sandwiches /salads. Pretty good prices for decent portions and good quality food. Fries(potato wedges) here are wicked tasty.

We got Houdini’d. The reviews here were misleading as well as the sign outside that said Monteros Mexican Grill — Authentic Mexican Food. Burgers, Pizza and Pesto dishes mostly took up the menu. The last page had Mexican entrees so my friend and I ordered from this section. It’s totally normal to order pesto sandwiches from a Mexican joint… if you’re HIGH. Unfortunately, we weren’t. We ordered the Carne Asada and Tex Mex BBQ Ribs(barely passes as Mexican). I ordered the steak medium rare and it came out cooked through but it was still tender. It was accompanied by guacamole, pico de gallo and rice that was semi hard. No one likes semis. The ribs were unbearably dry. I don’t remember how the sauce tasted because the meat was so tough. I even tried adding 2 different types of hot sauce to extract the flavor from the pork but I failed. The corn however was sweet and slathered in butter. Both dishes cost around $ 12. Major fail. My friend initially ordered 2 other dishes but they were out of chicken on a Monday. Add chicken next to sushi on the«Do not order on Mondays» list. The cook/host/possibly owner(?) was really hospitable though and said the dishes we ordered were excellent choices. His pants shortly lit on fire after that was said. My word of advice: DON’T FREAKIN’ DOIT.

This review is solely based on their cesina burrito. Frozen vegetable medley, salty beef, mushy rice and beans. You could have a mediocre burritos here or commute to montrose and get a banging burrito from new Mexico place for 50 cents cheaper

My roommate and I ordered take-out from this place last week. The food was terrible and overpriced. I ordered a vegetable ‘quesadilla’ which was filled with previously frozen carrots and cauliflowers(WTF?) and the tortilla itself was not freshly made. it was also $ 6.50, way more than you would pay for a REAL quesadilla anywhere else in Bushwick. I can’t believe these people have the nerve to call themselves a «Mexican grill». The food is low quality, not authentic, and overpriced. You can go RIGHTNEXTDOOR to a real Mexican place — Santana’s — and get cheap, authentic Mexican food anytime.

This place is convenient, the burritos are huge, but it can be a little pricey. The first time I went here, the service was great. I brought a group of friends the second time, and it took WAY too long — the orders were mixed up, but they did correct it after much confusion. Didn’t make a great impression with my friends. I haven’t tried anything but the Mexican food here, but a friend got a meatball parm and wasn’t very happy with it. Probably best to stick to the Mexican food here. Happy that this place is so close, but it is definitely not deserving of the 5 star rating it currently has on Unilocal

Really delicious! Because they sell pizza, waffles, burgers, pancakes, but specialize in Mexican food, we weren’t really sure what to expect. We were hoping for average but were pleasantly surprised by its deliciousness! I had the chicken torta with chipotles accompanied with yummy seasoned fries. Everything was piping hot and so fresh — $ 7! My boyfriend had the daily special of strawberry pancakes, two eggs, two sausage patties, with sliced banana and strawberries. The pancakes also had strawberry bits inside and were very tasty — $ 7.50! We also shared a fried ice cream, which my boyfriend loved, but i found disappointing only because it contained shredded coconut, which wasn’t mentioned on the menu. Next time I’ll have to ask for it without. The wait staff was super nice, very new and clean feeling interior, and overall a wonderful place to eat!

Relatively new to the neighborhood, this place is great. I have had breakfast/brunch here and have not been disappointed. They are also my go-to delivery spot when I am way too hungover to leave the apartment for breakfast(their bagel sandwiches will cure any hangover!) Affordable, large portions, nice ambiance and plenty of seating. I’m looking forward to going back for their dinner menu, and curious to see how their tacos stack up against Tortilleria Mexicana Los Hermano.

I couldn’t be happier that this is a block from my house. The prices are great. The food is authentic and excellent. I ordered the mole enchiladas and was blown away with how rich and complex the flavors were. I’ll be back…

Great place! great value! I love their fried ice cream and order it at least 3 times a week. I have not been disappointed in the food. I am even surprised the pasta is decent being that it is not an Italian restaurant. Service staff is pleasant as well!

I’m so glad this place is here. It’s just a hop, a skip, and a slide away from where I live. No more calls to Life Café for deliveries. No more mass consumption of Chimu’s fried rice, chicken, and steak. I have a new eating option. Hallelujah! I have yet to try a majority of the items on the menu, but I’ve only encountered hits so far. The jury is still out as to whether or not the menu has any misses. The menu runs the gamut with breakfast food(bagels, omelets, pancakes, waffles), coffee, pizza, salads, soups, burgers, sandwiches, Italian, and the requisite Mexican cuisine though Tortilleria Mexicana Los Hermanos has slightly cheaper tacos and tortas. I do not know how Montero’s version compares, but the fact that you have the choice of steak, cesina, carne enchilada, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, carnitas, arabes, and lengua for the mexican tacos and milaneza de res, milaneza de pollo, carne enchilada, carnitas, and chorizo con huevo for the tortas is a MAJOR plus. I really enjoyed the special(seafood ravioli). Hopefully, it will become a permanent fixture. The service was friendly and cordial also. I will be back rain or shine.
