Great spot! Food is amazing. The shrimp parm, vodka sauce shrimp, and baked ziti is all worth trying. Definitely recommend this spot

A hole-in-the-wall place in the belly of Brooklyn that has nice people serving you and has great veal parmigiana heroes. Spun off from Di Fara Pizza(located mere yards away on the corner), this place is nearly as good as the legendary pizzeria. Unlike the pizzeria, though, there were no lines, and the overall experience was very good. No joke. I can’t say this was the best I have had. Unfortunately, that is reserved for my faded childhood memories of the pizzeria I frequented down the block from where I lived in East New York. In those days, all pizzerias in the five boros were owned and operated by bonafide Italian immigrants and their families. I am still searching for that ultimate veal parm hero.

Okay — in case you are wondering what Di Fara was doing with your overpriced hipster pizza dollars — Dom’s got a big family and he has folks to look after. MD(aka Mama Domenico, that’s what it says on the DOH registration) is owned by one of the sons, and the kid’s a parm and pasta specialist. First of all, it’s a dinky place(similar to the hipster pizza palace next door), you will only find 3 tables in there. The storefront is pretty much drinks fridge and a food counter. Décor is simply photos of Brooklyn, the pizza joint next door, the usual Italian thotchkes that you’ll find in most Dyker Heights/Bensonhurst joints. However, it is cleaner and much better maintained than Di Fara’s, and since it’s not mobbed by over-entitled hipsters, the sons actually do a decent job at service courtesy. Unlike the pizza palace there is a restroom here, but it’s behind the counter. What about the food? It’s solid — don’t get me wrong, you are not going to eat the name the way you do at daddy’s place, the pasta is Barilla, the usual pre-baked Italian bread, hallmark of local Vinnie pizza/pasta joints. That being said, the flavoring is generally decent. The Sunday gravy tastes fresh and homemade, with basil and whatnot added(and suspiciously similar to the pizza sauce next door… not to say they are one and the same, it taste like variations on the same general recipe), the mozzarella doesn’t seem like the usual cheap stuff, and the eggplant in the eggplant parm tastes like something, not mushy wet sludge which most local Vinnie pizza joints seems to crap out with alarming frequency. In other words, quality is good, and they do seem to show more attention cooking it up. I doubt the«foodies» will hype MD kitchen the same way that they hyped Di Fara. That being said, it is a decent pasta/hero joint given the generally weak options in the area(the kosher pizza/pasta in the area are not much to speak of), and unlike the pizza joint, it’s good value for the money($ 10 for an eggplant parm platter is around the same as the frankly overpriced Jewish food joints on Avenue J, and a slight bump-up from the $ 8 local Vinnie’s. Honestly, it’s not too bad. Now let’s see if Junior can survive and thrive like the old man’s.

Went back for another slice at Di Fara, and I just have to say. MD Kitchen is better at Chicken Parm than Di Fara is at pizza. Bold? Yes. True? Also yes.

One word… Perfection today was my second time having food from here, and I can’t even fathom the words describe the quality of flavor. I ordered the chicken caprese… And omg I’ve never been so happy. It’s simply delicious. Thank you MD kitchen

Love this place. I live like 3 steps away and always chose this for a good dinner. They have great meatball parm subs and their pasta noodles are always PERFECT. If you want quick Italian take out go here!!! The people are so nice and will make your food how you want it.

I was expecting something stellar since this place is run by Dom DeMarco’s son. what I got was a standard eggplant park sandwich – not bad, and filling. I had to wait forever, though, so don’t come in a hurry

Delicious shrimp parm! I didn’t especially like the spaghetti but the breaded shrimp is definitely yummy. A got the chicken parm hero, which wasn’t anything special to us too so he was disappointed but I’d definitely come back if I were craving a shrimp parm hero, which I do wish I got instead of the plate. Definitely a tiny place with just two stools and a bench but we did notice a lot of action for take-out. We came on a Saturday afternoon and it was nice because it was just the two of us. There’s no pizza here for those of you who are wondering since this is by Di Fara’s offspring but you will find pizzeria staples such as rice balls, beef patties, wings, and fries. The woman behind the counter was very nice and made us the cheese fries that we requested. :)

Service is extremely slow. I waited an hour for 3 sandwiches. The heroes were small, cold, and very bland. Not worth the time and money. They should stick to making pizza.

I tried MD Kitchen one day when my friends suggested we try this new place(owned by DiFarra’s pizza’s owner’s son?), since there aren’t too many choices around. MD Kitchen serves your normal pizzeria’s helpings(heroes, pasta) except the pizzas since it’s right around the corner from DiFarra’s. The place is very small, enough seating for 4 people to eat-in. The kitchen is also very small, the kitchen was right behind the counter. The day I went, upon coming into the place, there were 2 people manning the kitchen(the owner and a worker). There was one party waiting for their order and another party looking at the menu. We scanned the menu to decide what we wanted to try. When the other party’s order was ready, they checked their bag and mentioned there was a mistake in the order. Instead of offering to fix the order, the owner became very defensive and said he knows what was ordered and that the order was made right. The party didn’t put up too much of a fight and took their bag and left. While we were waiting to order, the owner continued to rant about how he was right. We wait for him to actually greet us and ask us for our order, which never really happened. Finally, my friend had to ask if we can make an order. My friends ordered 3 heroes and I ordered the Penne with Meat sauce. We wanted some rice balls, but they ran out. After ordering, we hung around at the place for a bit to wait for our order, enough time to witness an older couple dropping by to ask if they had meatballs that day. The owner told them they ran out. It seemed like it wasn’t the first time the couple received this bad news. After a while of waiting and order is nowhere near done, we asked the owner if we can come back to pick up. Luckily, my friend lives a block away from the place so we hung out at his place while waiting for the order. After an hour of wait, my friends went to pick up our order. When they got there, they had to wait another 15 minutes before the order was ready. We were famished by the time we got our food. I was ready to devour my pasta. However, to my utter disappointment, the dish was very bland. The pasta was way overdone and there was not much meat in their meat sauce. My friends did not have better luck with their heroes. After the wait and the below subpar food(yes, below subpar, it’s not a grammatical error), even in an area with limited restaurant choices, it’s an easy decision to never return to this place.

Saturday, I am babysitting in the middle of nowhere BK. It is an insanely, strictly jewish neighborhood and EVERYTHINGISCLOSED. The family just moved in, so there is zero to eat in sight. Like, in a 12 block radius there is not a single business open. BRUTAL. In comes handy-dandy Unilocal, and guides me to this gem of an establishment. Open? yes. Affordable? yes. DELICIOUS?! you better believe it. I actually went for the cold cuts sandwich and it was so pleasantly and carefully done, I was highly pleased to have my expectations blown out of the water. Their service was awesome, smiles all around. This area and this establishment makes me miss the personality NYC used to have all over.

This is rather a small restaurant, but the way that they greet you and their serving size is rather generous! I ordered a shrimp parm($ 9), and they do not skimp on the shrimps. With every bite, there was a huge chunk of shrimp, accompanied by warm cheese and marinara sauce. It was delicious, and very filling. I can’t wait to go back and try out their whole menu :).

Son of Difara’s literally makes miracles in a tiny storefront around the corner from Dom’s pizza mecca… Italian-American heroes, plates and pastas are made and served from Pan to Plate. I went for the shrimp parm., but once I saw veal hero on the menu– $ 8 add on parm for $.50 I was like oh yeah… always in the mood for veal parm. Again, my veal parm was poured hot, fresh and delish from pan to my warmed hero. Ate, it around the corner at DiFara’s cause I can’t leave E.15th without a slice. The MD Kitchen serves all the faves and made to order… Satisfying & simply delish!
