Massage Envy – Brooklyn Heights

Terrible experience. Would not recommend this place at all! First of all they do not answer the phone, another time I tried they answered but then put me on hold for so long I gave up. I eventually went in person and asked to use a gift voucher I’d received for a facial and was told the next available date was over two weeks from that day. My friend, who did not have a voucher, received an appointment the following day. Terrible customer service.

I had high hopes about this place. As a mom who had never received a professional massage, I was looking forward to finally having one done at Massage Envy Spa as my mother’s day gift. Unfortunately I was very disappointed and unhappy by the end of my massage. I specifically asked for a deep tissue massage, the masseuse asked if I had any specific problems areas or pain. I mentioned to him that my shoulders were aching but other than that nothing specific. It was supposed to be a 60 minute massage, I instead it was more like a 40 – 45 minute massage, which I feel like they should inform their clients ahead of time instead of promoting 1 hour massages. When we finally got started on the massage I was getting excited about finally having the tension in my shoulders rubbed out… that never happened! From the beginning to the end the whole massage was just a rub down (with oil). BTW I had a male massage therapist and there was absolutely NO pressure being used. It felt like my KIDS were rubbing lotion on my body, that is how lightly the massage was being done. Now I’m no expert, but this being my first time I’m sure this was NOT how a DEEP tissue massage was supposed to feel like. To the point where I was almost anxious for the «massage» to be over because I was not relaxed and I felt absolutely NO relief. By the time I left it felt like I had never even received a massage. Maybe I just left a full body moisturizing session. My husband was so upset that his Mother’s Day gift to me was ruined.

Ok. I am furious as they are ripping me off. First of all, I booked an hour massage and she only did for 45 min and wasn’t even trying when I asked for a deep massage. It was almost like just rubbing. On top of that, I was trying to cancel as they increased the monthly payment from 60 dollars to 80 dollars. They told me I can’t cancel for another 5 month. I will have to use four more since they won’t let me cancel. Hopefully the one in the city will be good.

I really enjoyed my massage here. The facilities are nice and so was the staff. It’s nice to be able to go into a massage place and know there is no funny business going on. This franchise is really professional and consistent so I’ve always known what I was getting. They do have a membership option but I don’t have one. I’m not a regular massage guy but when you want one it’s great to know you can just make an appointment and come in. The guy behind the desk was really nice and gave me good options in terms of what kinds of massages to get and recommended a good person for me. I’ll be back.

No a fan. They have the potential to be really great.
Really wanted to like this place and have given it several tries. My wife bought me a package group of massages as a present. First massage was OK, the others were very disappointing. Inexperienced masseuses giving mediocre massages.
Plus they could not find my package in the system. Had to go through a hassle every time I called to schedule an appointment.

My sister and I both purchased a $ 150 voucher before Christmas since they were giving $ 100 gift card along with the purchase, and now I regret it and feel that I’ve wasted my money. But the night we did make the purchase, we do have to give credit to the courteous and friendly spa manager Jose and receptionist (cannot recall her name). We were both excited to finally make an appointment for a massage and used the online form hoping someone will get back to us … WRONG! I understand it was close to the holidays, but for a business to not reply or call back the customer whose requesting an appointment is absolutely unprofessional and that alone have let us decide to go somewhere else. We even called Massage Envy Brooklyn Heights a few days after submitting the online form only to have the receptionist to not care and told us they are fully booked so that is why no one ever called us; but regardless fully booked or not, it would have been smart for a business to attempt to make an appointment for a future date, and for a customer this showed us that this location may not be as professional as it should. And without being a member the prices are still a bit on the expensive side, and with that I’d rather pay that kind of money at a nice spa with amenities. Plus, this location seems to have many bad reviews so that might be a huge sign to make an appointment with another location. Shame because this is the closest and most convenient location for me too.

Really mixed feelings on the place. Nice people, affordable prices so yeah, I got suckered into the membership (they get you when you are all relaxed post-​massage watch out!). Overall, you get what you pay for. For the price, I would still choose Massage Envy over an «asian massage» place because at least you know the staff are treated fairly, licensed, speak English etc. but then why not pay a little more for an overall better caliber massage and customer service?
Room for improvement: Patricia is one of the only masseuses that can offer ‘deep’ pressure so right there you are extremely limited when scheduling. She’s absolutely wonderful but they need more people that can offer deep-​tissue and therapeutic massage.
The booking and cancellation practices practically guarantee you to fail and be overcharged — there is no way to book online and if you need to god forbid reschedule, guess what…100% charge, even if you call in advance. If you reschedule with enough notice, you receive a ½ service credit for that month (thanks?) and will have to «pull forward» your next month’s charge to get that month’s massage so you end up paying double for one massage if you reschedule outside the 24 hour window. Have serious Illness, emergencies, doesn’t matter your situation, you will be charged.
Facials are relaxing and also very pleasant staff, but it feels like a product sell the entire time.
Maybe membership to a mediocre spot like this is for you, it simply wasn’t worth it for me. Of course, If they get more practitioners capable of deep pressure and if they fix their booking and scheduling system, tone down the product-​pushing, then maybe give them a shot.

I have so many mixed feelings about this place. This is my second time trying it because I felt as if I needed to give it another chance. This location is pretty bad. Mostly because of the staff at the front desk who are super nice when trying to sign you up for things and then complete jerks the rest of the time. Massages are expensive and merely approach average levels. I could get a body rub from a Chinese place for 45 – 50 $ and it would be the same. No need to pay more, for the received quality. The facials are not focused on deep cleaning, so your pores will still be clogged when you leave. Overall it’s a bad experience with the opportunity to be ensnared by their membership incentives and end up paying for months to come;(.

The massage itself was nice but we started late (not because of me – I was there early) and ended ten minutes early, so I felt that was a bit of a rip-​off. Plus the woman at the front desk was extremely pushy about me becoming a member to the point where I felt it was inappropriate. I will say, the massage rooms are nice and very relaxing. But as I mentioned before, my massage was probably only 40 – 45 minutes when it was meant to be an hour. Honestly, I don’t think I will be returning.

I have been a member at this location for almost two years. I asked to have my account suspended so that I could use up the massages I hadn’t had time to use yet. Unfortunately, my credit card was then charged three months in a row. Each time I had to address it again with the spa. Because of obvious neglect on the management’s part, I decided to cancel my membership. Then, I had an appointment scheduled that I couldn’t make because I got sick after traveling. It was within 24 hours and the manager refused to make an exception even though I was sick and did not have advanced warning to cancel the day prior. I don’t feel like this is an appropriate way to do business and is an example of poor customer service. I wonder if the penalty charge for canceling even goes to the therapist. I won’t be returning to this location.

Horrible service and completely unethical staff. I did not use the service because the massages were so bad, but paid for the year anyway. After that, despite my repeated requests to cancel, they continued to charge me on «auto renew,» for months. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR ANYTHING with these people. If you like the massage which you likely will not, just pay by the massage as they will do anything to take advantage of you and take your money.

I happen to like Massage Envy. The only downfall is getting an appointment with your particular massage therapist as they all work different hours and may change them often.
I personally see Marie and she is amazing. She helps me relax and get all the knots out and relieves the tension. If she leaves I will be leaving with her, as long as she stays I will remain a customer. Based on the other reviewers I haven’t had those headaches and I’m staying and paying that monthly fee for Marie lol.

I hate to do this as I’m not one to write a negative review, and I really don’t like keyboard warriors who just go on these things to moan, but my god! What an awful experience. I wish I had just spent a little more and gone to a real spa.
The reception was lovely, but that is about as far as it go. Firstly you wait in the ‘tranquility room’, which is basically a noisy hallway where you get to listen to the staff noisily chat to one another. Then I get taken into my massage room, firstly my masseuse was late. She then rushed me talking about how bad the traffic was. I lie down and there is no music or nice lighting, nothing relaxing about it. As nice and chatty as my lady was, she was awful at massaging, she was rushing and talking about her next appointment. Honestly the worst massage I’ve ever had. I also paid an extra 10 for a foot massage which she forgot, when I reminded her she complained about the time and said ‘well I’ll give you a 2 minute one’, however I still had to pay the full amount.
Did I forget to mention that it’s my birthday, I’m a student and I had to save up for two weeks to be able to afford this, I feel much more tense with the stressful, rushed massage upon leaving than I did when I went in. This was meant to be a nice treat for myself and tbh it has put a massive damper on my day.
I’m sorry to rant, but I really hope people take my advice and go elsewhere, a very upsetting experience. On their website they claim to be 4 star, I’ve been searching for whomever has said they had a good experience here and I can’t see a single review. I’m not sure where they got these 4 stars from, but I doubt it was legitimate.
The only massage envy I have of this place are of those smart enough to avoid it.

So I had my first massage today and it was excellent. My massage therapist was attentive and expertly knew what was going on with me. She knew where my tension points were. I found out I’m one uptight chick but now I know where I can go to relax and rejuvenate. I will definitely plan on returning. The aroma therapy was awesome. I had the anxiety oils and they helped calm me and bring me a sense of peace. The facility is clean, and has a warm inviting atmosphere. The staff is friendly and attentive, I was offered a beverage, coffee, tea or water. I signed up for the six month membership because the deal is great.

I had the best massage ever from Bidur I had massages from every where from the corner Chinese place to the best and most expensive place and no ever has come close to getting my knots out than Bidur he new exactly what I wanted and did a wonderful job I even told him he has hands of an angel. I love the place the front desk try their best to help everyone, they are human and sometimes it not easy accommodating everyone even though they try. I got exactly what I gave them respect and a great massage. Thank you Bidur see you soon;-)))

Okay, listen up students! :)
I joined the «one massage a month club for a year» to get the discounted rate of $ 59.99 per massage back in October. The other day I had my third appointment.
Cons:
Very difficult to schedule an appointment (ESPECIALLY on weekends! — you will have to call AT LEAST one or two weeks in advance to book something on a Saturday or Sunday).
I’ve had three different massage therapists — one was lazy and worthless (Ruth), one creeped me out with his comments and lack of professional behavior (I nipped that in the bud real quick with my mentioning my 6’7″ boyfriend who is a bouncer!), but one was good (her name was Michelle). So if you can find someone quickly who is good you will be okay. But I wasted two appointments, imho.
The receptionists seem to be overwhelmed. Not their fault but I’ve had several instances where I was left on hold, hung up on accidentally, or given wrong information.
Pros:
It’s walking distance from where I live!
Michelle is a wonderful massage therapist (but she has transferred to the E23rd St location, fyi!).
So, class, in conclusion… I would probably NOT join up if I had to do so again. But I can always update this review a few months from now. So stay tuned!

I joined a year ago and the first few months were terrific. Then my usual therapist left and it went downhill from there. I had my last massage of the year yesterday with Ruth and it was the WORST massage I have ever had and I get them a lot– in other places also.
She literally just rubbed me for 90 minutes. I made a comment about 20 minutes in and she said she was just warming up the muscles. But she continued that way and never asked me my opinion again. And she SAT for the whole massage. I seriously question the training of their therapists. I guess if you pay for rabbit, you get rabbit and if you pay for mink you get mink.

Man what can I say about this place? I mean besides how awesome it is?! I was a couple of doors down from Massage Envy and after seeing one of their lovely employees I thought I might stop in and treat myself to a massage. The front staff is amazing. Very warm and welcoming. I was helped by Justin (the front desk employee) He was very sweet, nice, warm and welcoming as he walked me through all of the paperwork before and after the massage. This was my first time getting a professional massage so as with anything new I was experiencing a little trepidation on what to expect. But Justin put me at ease and never once made me feel uncomfortable or like I was just another dollar sign.
After filling out the paperwork, I was introduced to Nikki my masseuse. (This is where I go into dreamy mode and I get that sparkle in my eyes LOL) Nikki has amazing hands, fingers, elbows etc. She found kinks I knew about and some I did not know about. She took the time to work all of the tension from my back and my feet and actually talked to me through the entire process. She gave me some very useful tips and made me feel very comfortable. She was very knowledgeable and I felt like I was talking to a girlfriend. Needless to say I will return for another massage with her.

I booked a massage for my girlfriend and left my credit card on file with instructions to leave a 20% tip. I was charged for almost a 40% tip. They seem to be in the business of dishonesty. This was my first and last experience at this establishment.

Massage Envy is an awful business that can only exist by fleecing new customers that don’t know what they are getting into.
After getting the membership and making my reservations, fully 30% of my appointments have been cancelled and I only learn about it when I show up at the spa
Because of their sales system and your contractual obligations after being swindled, customer service blossoms into a stinking fetid swamp.
Expect to be dissapointed

Running a Successful Business 101: Answer the phone! Can never get ahold of anyone here.

I was very disappointed with the customer service I received today. Don’t get me wrong, the massage itself was very nice but service was horrible.
First of all, my boyfriend transferred me a 90 minute massage but when it was time to check out they only had me down for 60 minutes. My bf had to call his «home clinic» (in Clarendon, VA) who told him that he wasn’t able to transfer the extra 30 minutes. In addition to this, he tried to get his membership changed over to this location months ago and they lost his paperwork!
Right before leaving, I tried to leave a tip on my credit card. I guess the amount that I left wasn’t sufficient enough for the person at the desk because he proceeded to shame me into leaving a bigger tip!
Once again, the massage was very good but the customer service put a serious damper on the experience. He cancelled his membership immediately after leaving this location.

Great massages — WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. Inflexible corporate culture. Irresponsible administration.
A front desk member lost copies of my personal information that I was told to bring in in order to transfer me to the Brooklyn location from another. A manager, and then Aaron the owner, said they would take care of it and transfer me after that administrative mess, but then did not. I was assured it would be taken care of once again, and it was not.
I have spent more time on the phone with this bunch than I care to admit.
Then, another manager named Gina just hung up on me. LITERALLY HUNG UP ON A CUSTOMER. After I didn’t hear back from her for several minutes, I called back the location, was put on hold for 10 minutes, and then she tried to tell me that «there was static on the line, and that she lost me.» Right. Then wouldn’t you have tried to call me back?
Unfortunately, there has been a long series of customer service issues that I’ve experienced with this location that have left a TERRIBLE impression on me.
As a business owner myself, I would have gone above & beyond to make things right with an unhappy customer months before their level of frustration reach mine.
Unfortunately, this company did not.
Happy to never, ever have to deal with this location again.

Gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time, when they changed the terms of a promotion after I had bought it. Now they just cancelled an appointment because of a booking error on their side, without offering any compensation or even apologies. Not different from a McDonald’s for massages…

This was fine – not the best massage I’ve ever had (visit Opal in Park Slope for that). My therapist mainly focused on my back/​shoulders, which I had asked her to, but she entirely neglected my legs even though at the beginning she said she’d end with them. They were also quite focused on time – when I arrived they told me I was running a little late (by 2 minutes), and rushed me into the room. Then when my therapist came in, she told me it was actually only a 50-​minute hands-​on massage, even though they made it seem like an hour for the introductory price. Honestly, there are better places, and better ways to spend $ 59 plus tax and tip. Nothing terrible egregious but I don’t recommend it.

I have been a member at this location for several months now. In my second month, I found my favorite massage therapist and will now only schedule my appointments with her. Diana does an excellent job and I always leave feeling relaxed, with a noticeable change in my flexibility and range of motion over time as well.
That said, I took off a star because it definitely does have a corporate/​marketing feel in the lobby and registration area. It backs off once you become a member, which honestly I do find to be worth it — but some people aren’t interested and the pressure can be a bit much. That’s the only recommendation I would make!
